Cisco Wireless :: N Bridge Possible Between Two 1252AG At 5GHz
Nov 22, 2010
I've read in some of the cisco documentation on the 1250 series that root bridge or non root bridge modes are "not tested". They don't say "not supported". I have a client that could use a high bandwidth link between two buildings that are 100' or so apart. The fiber link has already been busted twice. Heavy heavy trucks kill the ground concrete. I have configed a 54Mbps solution with two 1242G's and some cisco yagi's. But, if an N bridge is possible with two 1252AG's, and go faster than the 54Mbps..I'd go with that setup.
Cisco documentation says the bridge modes show up in the 1252 webgui and are selectable. They just end it with "not tested".

I have Eight AIR-AP1242AG-E-K9's accross our site that have 2 SSID's and 2 VLAN's that work well, I want to link one of the AIR-AP1242AG-E-K9 to another one using 5ghz patch antennas across a 50 metre gap, but I am puzzled on how to do this, as to create a root bridge and a non route bridge link I need to put the infrastucture SSID on and this must be on VLAN1 but I want the traffic from both VLANs to pass over this link. I just want to ensure the config will work as I need to go into a cherry picker to get to the non-root-bridge.

I just bought a WNDR3700 to upgrade my wireless network. I have two primary goals:
1. Get my one HTPC that is connected via wireless bridge (due to its location) out of the 2.4GHz band because of microwave interference; and
2. Move to 802.11n to increase bandwidth to handle additional wireless HTPCs.
Currently, I have my HTPC and Xbox 360 connected to a WRT54GL. The WRT54GL connects to my primary wireless router via bridge mode. I prefer to use a bridge instead of buying separate wireless adapters for the Xbox and HTPC. Any recommendations of wireless routers that I can use as a bridge to connect via 802.11n in the 5GHz range. DD-WRT compatibility is a big plus. Gigabit switched ports also a plus, but not that important.I could just buy another WNDR3700, but I am looking for a less expensive option.
Currently considering:
Linksys E2000
Linksys WRT400N

I Recently purchased the DAP1522 to use as an entertainment bridge for my xbox 360, BR player and dish network receiver I also upgraded my router a WRT5GS running tomato to a Linksys E4200 going from G to N while i had my Xbox and BR connected wireless I didn't have the Dish receiver hooked up so i thought by using the DAP i would be upgrading my network and connecting my Dish receiver no brainier right and everything works so far.But here's the question with all the hype of the benefits of the 5ghz channel , well it's not hype it certainly makes sense but from what I see the products have to be compatible shouldn't what I'm connecting be compatible they say your gaming console specifically and streaming movies i would think . Any configuration tips I read somewhere that with an E3200 router they had to set the 5ghz channel to like 37 for the DAP to see that channel its all getting a little overwhelming here's whats in the house A Mac Power PC pre Intel using a Asus NB13 USB 2.4ghz its the only thing i could find with speeds over 100Mbps A windows 7 machine hardwired gig connection another windows 7 pc downstairs hardwired a netbook with a wireless connection and lastly a DECT 6.0 phone system who knows what interference these produce.

I have a question regarding to AIR-CAP3602I-A-K9. May I know does AIR-CAP3602I-A-K9 has the 802.11a module? Since I configured it with vWLC, I haven't AIR-CAP3602I-A-K9 inside 802.11a/n?
If so, any module I need to purchase to enable 5GHz.
vWLC version: 7.3.112.0 AIR-CAP3602I-A-K9 version: 7.3.112.0

On a 1602 autonomous AP in the US, should the maximum DB power level be 22DB or 17DB? According to the datasheet it shows 22DB when all 3 antennaes are in use although I am only showing 17DB as the allowed maximum even though all 3 are enabled.
Antenna: Rx[a b c ]
Tx[a b c ofdm all]

Currently have access points located throughout our warehouse that use the AIR ANT5160V-R antenna's from Cisco. These AP's are 25' in the air. However we have a lot of voice quality issues off of the 5Ghz band, we do no other services on this band as we keep data on the 2.4Ghz.This was all installed by a vendor but from what I am seeing on the documentation [URL] the cover is extremely poor for these antennas despite AP's everywhere. They cover side to side but aren't a well rounded AP at all.it seems like the AIR-ANT5145V-R would be better suited even though this is a warehouse.

Can i run both 2.4 and 5ghz at the same time? so my N user's can connect at 300Mpbs on the 5ghz bonded, and my G users can connect to 54Mbps?Also i ask because of coverage, my 5ghz does not cover as far as the 2.4 so those at the extremity's could at least get G with a good signal?

I'm currently moving to a 5ghz solution, due to my WGB's de authenticating due to possible interference. However, the area I have to cover is 350ft in length, with centralizing a 1242 with two Cisco Aironet 6-dBi Omnidirectional Antenna (AIR-ANT5160V-R), that leaves around 150 ft each way.
Do you think this is possible? I currently have a 12dbi high gain antenna on 2.4 right now, but I get the following:
Oct 3 18:05:26.359: %DOT11-6-DISASSOC: Interface Dot11Radio0, Deauthenticating Station 68bc.0cb8.6a09
Oct 3 18:05:26.359: %DOT11-6-DISASSOC: Interface Dot11Radio0, Deauthenticating Station 0000.bcc7.ef05
Oct 3 18:05:26.359: %DOT11-6-DISASSOC: Interface Dot11Radio0, Deauthenticating Station 0000.bc58.c1ae
[code]...
I'm going to assume this is interference causing this, since we are in a factory with lots of noise. When the WGB is directly under the antenna/root bridge, there seems to be very little de authenticating.

I am looking into upgrading a customers wireless network and they are looking at using a few 1240 access points for both internal and external connections. Their question is can one access point support both channels simultaneously? They would like to connect an antenna on the inside of the building on the 5ghz channel and another externally on the 2.4ghz channel.

In the old days I used two autonomous 1242AG access access points to create a 5GHz PtP link with 2 patch antennas (over small distance 50meters and on on private premises) to connect an small building or garage were there was no ethernet availible. and used the 2.4GHz radio to serve clients in the small building area, worked great.
Can I use the same setup with the 2602e access points? If so, would I be able to use them controller based? Can I connect a switch/or additional access point behind the 2602e (bridge) in the small building/garage? Would that addtitional access point be able to connect and register to the WLC.

I have an AP541N-A-K9. For the past couple weeks it stops work at 5:00pm. The clients can see the SSID but when they connect it fails. The only way to get this to work again, is to set the radio to 5GHz 802.11N. Setting the radio to anything else does not allow the clients to connect.
I have some older clients so I need this broadcast G as well.
I have upgrade the software to AP541N-K9-2.0(1). Does not make a difference. Reset to Factory defaulst and reconfig does not make a difference. There are no Rouge AP's in the area.
Between the issues these have passing DHCP from a Windows server and now this, I'm thinking these devices are not fully baked.

I am using the E2500 with the Wireless N-pci adapter with dual band, both with the latest drivers / firmware, and I am getting extremely low signal quality and connection speed when connecting to the 5 Ghz network. My computer is no more than 15 feet away from the router, and on the same level. I also verified the connection with the 2.4 Ghz band, and it reads as excellent, and with 54 mps. Using 5 Ghz I get one bar of signal quality (very poor) and no more than 13 mps connection speed.

I've found a few people with this problem on the internet. I'm using my phat 360 with the black N adapter. e2500 is updated to the latest firmware. But my 360 cannot connect to the 5ghz N, only 2.4ghz g. The wierd thing is that the 5ghz signal gives a better signal than the 2.4ghz.
I just found a thread on google talking about the e4200 and someone mentioned counterfit adapters and problems with them. I did buy this on ebay for a cheap price, so it looks like it was too good to be true. this is a counterfit? It does have a real hologram on it.

If this is real, what else could be the problem. Has the firmware not been updated to support the 360?

By default, 802/11a/n is set for backhaul communication.Does that mean that if most of my clients are on 5ghz, Mesh network is not a preferred design to go? Reason being:- client communication on a/n radio might disturb the traffic of the whole cell and of all the MAPs that connect to the network through that MAP.

In my class room, a lot of new Dell notebook (university purchased) all of those are the same model. Those came with 2.4&5Ghz WLAN NIC.
So, my WLC-based AP in that room which is Cisco 1x1042 & 1x1252 running in light-weight.This make huge congest on 5 Ghz. All of my 41 NB go for 5Hgz. And Zero client on 2.4Ghz radio, 2.4Ghz is not utilized at all.
I have read a lot of those related discussion. But I even can not find one that need to utilized BOTH of band. Most of those discussion talking to band-select which is "this feature only goes in one direction from the 2.4 GHz range to the 5 GHz not visa-versa."
My constrint is We can not touch the NB. Because this is university, much many diverse user loging in.

WRT610v2 running latest firmware.
xbox 360 sees both the 2.4 network (ssid = network1) and the 5.0 network (ssid network2) when it does its scan.
Initially, xbox showed network strength for 2.4 network at 3 out of 4 bars and 5.0 network at 1 out of 4 bars. Connects to 2.4 network just fine, Won't pull an ip address and reports "Not connected" when I select the 5.0 network.
I tweaked the wireless settings per some suggestions I found in this forum and now it shows the 5.0 network at 4 out of 4 bars signal strength. Also turned security on and off and xbox 360 reported the changes in security on the 5.0 network. So the xbox 360 is definitely seening the 5.0 network. and can tell if it is running WPA2 or not. If it can see the 5.0 network and recognizes what security and network type (infrastructure) is set, would would stop it from connecting to the WRT610n router and getting an IP address? No mac filters or firewalls are set and, again, connects just fine and gets an ip address if I select the 2.4 (network1 ssid) instead.
