View 1 RepliesOur office has 4 Cisco Aironet 1140 access points mounted on the ceiling. They are all powered via PoE. Every few days 3 of the 4 access points hang and have to be rebooted. When they hang I am not able to connect to their web interface to check the logs. The fourth, for some reason, always seems to stay alive.
I checked the configuration for all AP's and "Hot Standby" is disabled They are all using static IP addresses. I've tried 2 different banks of static IP addresses and 3 of 4 still hange so I don't think this is an IP conflict. I have saved the configurations and compared them and they are all identical, where possible.
They all have software version: 12.4(21a)JA1
They all have bootloader version: 12.4(23c)JA1
I have tried to download the latest software/firmware, but unfortunately I do not have a valid service contract in place with Cisco and therefore can't download the latest version. All of our CISCO hardware was purchased from Amazon resellers but no luck. I have also tried to contact Cisco and they can't seem to assist either. How I can get a valid service contract that information would also be very useful!!!
why 3 of our 4 access points would hang? When they hang, I can't login to the web interface and the logs seem to reset when I reset each access point. I have also set up an rsyslog server and I don't see a log entry that would indicate a problem.

Whats the difference between a transform set and a security association? I understand that in the transform set you have to state AH or ESP, but why do you also have to choose a HMAC and an ecryption algorithm? Didnt we just configure that with isakmp? Also what is the point in selecting an encryption algorithm in isakmp if were using AH?
View 3 Replies View RelatedWe have a 5508 WLC with a few WAP's (1131's and 1242's). Our wireless clients use certificate base authentication against our AD (i.e. both computer cert and user cert are required). However, from time to time I see clients being associated but not authenticated as reported by the WLC. Could it be possible, as some literatures indicate that a client can only be "associated" after it's successfully authenticated? Perhaps I'm not quite clear about the concept.
View 7 Replies View RelatedHas used the "Planned AP association" feature in WCS 7 planning mode? I haven't been able to find any documentation on it, but I was hoping that it allowed you to map your planning AP's and locations to freshly deployed AP's and place them on the floorplan when doing a synchronize, but I can't get it to complete successfully.

Is there an association between fiber type, wavelength and distance? I mean are there single-mode fiber cables, which are more suited for 1550nm wavelength and have poor performance when wavelength is for example 1310nm? Are there fiber cables which support only some narrow wavelength range? In addition, how is such behavior called in physics?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am running WLC 5508 and WCS version 7.0.98. We are noticing with some of our handheld devices that have Sychip Wireless cards that they constantly have issues communicating. The error I see on the WCS side is shown below:
Client '00:0b:6c:2f:d0:32 (0.0.0.0)' failed to associate with interface '802.11b/g' of AP 'HO-BRSales'. The reason code is '0(null)'.
-WLC 2504

-SW 7.4.100.0
We have 22 x AP1602.5 of them show up in the WLC with Controller Association Latency of around 1 minute and 10 seconds. The other 17 all have latency around 10 seconds.
1. What are possibile causes for high value of association latency?
2. Could high-value association latency be an indication of badly working wifi for data traffic?
I have a new Toshiba Portege. It successfully connects to 2 wifi connections but will not connect to a third (my home). I have other laptops connected successfully to my home network right now. So, the problem is specific to this machine and this network.
When I run an Intel diagnostic tool (Intel PROSet/Wireless WiFi Connection Utility) I get a failure at the "association test". [Trying to figure out how to post a screen shot. I'll post it when I do.

It is a Customer requirement to send 802.11 client association/disassociation logs to the Syslog server in a Unified Wireless system. (AIR-CT5508 + LAP1142) [code] Unfortunately I didn't find such logs even in Msg Log with the severity level set to debugging.I was able to do client assoc/disassoc logging with SNMP trap + trap receiver software, BUT is there any way to do this with Syslog?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using aironet 1210, 1130, 1100, 1040 autonomous mode, in a University campus network with thousands of daily user. We're using RADIUS authentication and AES/WPA2.In the past, there were some major issues with traffic (broadcast / multicast) in the wireless networks, that would spread all around the campus causing excessive processing at the access-points.To solve the problem we decided to implement access list at the radio interface to drop all the unwanted traffic. [code]
I'm pretty sure this is caused by the ACL (I've tested removing the ACL and the issue never occurred) but I can't just get ride of it.
Any alternative way to drop broadcasts?
I'm trying to do some basic troubleshooting on our WiSMS. Some clients on a working network are unable to connect in the afternoons, debugging the client on the wism shows this message:
*apfMsConnTask_2: Dec 05 14:23:44.018: Association request from the P2P Client Process P2P Ie and Upadte CB
It keeps repeating with the Task_X changing. What does that mean?We have two controllers in our 6500's running this software ver. 7.3.101.0
I have been noticing in my trap logs that there are an excessive amount of Client Association/Authentication Failures. I cannot figure out why. I have a Cisco 5508 WLC with 81 AP's (1131ag, 1142abgn, 1262N) models. The wireless devices are on a Windows Domain and use 802.1x EAP authentication, authenticating the user and computer info with a RADIUS Server. I look at the logs and all it can tell me is Reason:Unspecified ReasonCode:1. I read that the Reason Code is due to "Client associated but no longer authorized" but to be honest I am not sure what that means.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWe've recently sold and implemented a wireless solution using a WLC, WCS and 1140 APs.
There is a HQ site where the WLC, WCS, DNS and DHCP reside. Active Directory and a RADIUS server are also located there. There is then a WAN link to remote sites which sometimes fails. At the remote sites you'll just have a router, switches and the APs. The intention is for the APs to work in lightweight mode, falling back to H-REAP when the WAN link fails.
That works fine, but what doesn't work fine is the APs rejoining once the WAN link is restored.
They just don't. Even days later, the APs are still all disassociated from the controller despite the WAN link being up. I've 'hardcoded' the controller IP into the AP configuration, while the APs initally get the IP for the WLC from DHCP using Option 43. Despite the APs therefore knowing where WLC is, once they're disassociated from it (WAN link failed) they will not reassociate by themselves. Restarting the APs is the only way to get them to rejoin.
With hundreds of APs and in excess of 30 switches, restarting all the APs each time the WAN link fails is pretty ridiculous.
I've logged a TAC case and gone through the whole rigmarole, this is an offical bug and Cisco have informed us that it's due to be fixed sometime early 2011, but besides that there is nothing useful. So to be perfectly clear, Cisco have sold and shipped a product that doesn't work as advertised and they best they can offer us is a promise to fix it soon. I'm pretty shocked, I've never had this experience with Cisco in the past.
Ok, so now I've got to come up with a decent workaround until we get a firmware release where this is fixed. I'm looking at using CNA to automate the reloading of all the switches, I guess when an outage is reported I'll just write a procedure for the client to follow to reload all their APs.
i have a 1140 AP and i have an ssid on it authenticate users from NPS server.
but now i need to conifure on it 2 ssid with different vlans each ssid authenticate from the same NPS server but with diferent groups.
I've set up a Cisco Aironet 1301 AP to be used for a guest network. I've got several other of the Aironet 1140-series around the business but none of them are in reach of this one at the moment.
The problem I have is that clients that try to connect to the AP are either not able to connect at all or lose their connection after some seconds. The config is more or less copied from the other APs with the same guest VLAN.

A script that can query the associated status of APs and reload them as needed, automatically, would be pretty cool. Perhaps that can be done with SNMP.
I'm configuring an 1140 and trying to make it invisable to any user that doesnt know the SSID. The SSID is not broadcast, however my clients see "Other Network" in their list of available networks. Short of turning off the AP is there any way through the 1140's configuration to prevent this "Other Network" from showing up in the clients available networks list.

I just installed an Aironet 1140 to replace a Netgear ProSafe access point that I had in my network prior. I'm having one issue that I can't figure out though. None of the client PCs can establish a connection to an external (over the internet) VPN server while on the Aironet wireless. If i unplug the AP and plug a PC into the same port that normall feeds the Aironet I can VPN just fine.
Is there any "VPN Passthrough" option that needs to be enabled somewhere on the 1140 that is blocking this traffic for some reason?
