Cisco :: Association Between Fiber Type Wavelength And Distance?
Jan 3, 2012
Is there an association between fiber type, wavelength and distance? I mean are there single-mode fiber cables, which are more suited for 1550nm wavelength and have poor performance when wavelength is for example 1310nm? Are there fiber cables which support only some narrow wavelength range? In addition, how is such behavior called in physics?

Whats the difference between a transform set and a security association? I understand that in the transform set you have to state AH or ESP, but why do you also have to choose a HMAC and an ecryption algorithm? Didnt we just configure that with isakmp? Also what is the point in selecting an encryption algorithm in isakmp if were using AH?

We have a 5508 WLC with a few WAP's (1131's and 1242's). Our wireless clients use certificate base authentication against our AD (i.e. both computer cert and user cert are required). However, from time to time I see clients being associated but not authenticated as reported by the WLC. Could it be possible, as some literatures indicate that a client can only be "associated" after it's successfully authenticated? Perhaps I'm not quite clear about the concept.

Has used the "Planned AP association" feature in WCS 7 planning mode? I haven't been able to find any documentation on it, but I was hoping that it allowed you to map your planning AP's and locations to freshly deployed AP's and place them on the floorplan when doing a synchronize, but I can't get it to complete successfully.

My WiFi Clients are not able to associate any more. Failure is:

I can't find either a WLAN-configuration guide for 15.2.
relevant config:

vlan 2
max-associations 16

I am running WLC 5508 and WCS version 7.0.98. We are noticing with some of our handheld devices that have Sychip Wireless cards that they constantly have issues communicating. The error I see on the WCS side is shown below:
Client '00:0b:6c:2f:d0:32 (0.0.0.0)' failed to associate with interface '802.11b/g' of AP 'HO-BRSales'. The reason code is '0(null)'.

-WLC 2504
-AP1602
-SW 7.4.100.0
We have 22 x AP1602.5 of them show up in the WLC with Controller Association Latency of around 1 minute and 10 seconds. The other 17 all have latency around 10 seconds.
1. What are possibile causes for high value of association latency?
2. Could high-value association latency be an indication of badly working wifi for data traffic?

I have a new Toshiba Portege. It successfully connects to 2 wifi connections but will not connect to a third (my home). I have other laptops connected successfully to my home network right now. So, the problem is specific to this machine and this network.
When I run an Intel diagnostic tool (Intel PROSet/Wireless WiFi Connection Utility) I get a failure at the "association test". [Trying to figure out how to post a screen shot. I'll post it when I do.

It is a Customer requirement to send 802.11 client association/disassociation logs to the Syslog server in a Unified Wireless system. (AIR-CT5508 + LAP1142) [code] Unfortunately I didn't find such logs even in Msg Log with the severity level set to debugging.I was able to do client assoc/disassoc logging with SNMP trap + trap receiver software, BUT is there any way to do this with Syslog?

I'm using aironet 1210, 1130, 1100, 1040 autonomous mode, in a University campus network with thousands of daily user. We're using RADIUS authentication and AES/WPA2.In the past, there were some major issues with traffic (broadcast / multicast) in the wireless networks, that would spread all around the campus causing excessive processing at the access-points.To solve the problem we decided to implement access list at the radio interface to drop all the unwanted traffic. [code]
I'm pretty sure this is caused by the ACL (I've tested removing the ACL and the issue never occurred) but I can't just get ride of it.
Any alternative way to drop broadcasts?

It keeps repeating with the Task_X changing. What does that mean?We have two controllers in our 6500's running this software ver. 7.3.101.0

I have been noticing in my trap logs that there are an excessive amount of Client Association/Authentication Failures. I cannot figure out why. I have a Cisco 5508 WLC with 81 AP's (1131ag, 1142abgn, 1262N) models. The wireless devices are on a Windows Domain and use 802.1x EAP authentication, authenticating the user and computer info with a RADIUS Server. I look at the logs and all it can tell me is Reason:Unspecified ReasonCode:1. I read that the Reason Code is due to "Client associated but no longer authorized" but to be honest I am not sure what that means.

I am currently trying to find the method or mechanism for calculating the distance between two wireless mobile nodes.Let's say, there are 2 nodes (node B and C) coming in communication with node A. How can node A knows whether node B or node C is nearer than the other? Is it possible to find it out by using RSSI? or are there any other mechanisms to calculate the distance?

Looking to link up to 6513 chassis via 6704 10 gig cards.
I have a 6513 on the 8th floor and one on the 3rd floor in same building. Distance would be approx 150' max. New 10 gig cabling was installed between these floors.
I would like to use 2 10 gig ints on each 6704 to form a port channel (LACP) between the 2 environments.
So far I have been unable to get the links up between 6704's.

I need to implement VSS on 6500 equipped with Sup720-10GE and WS-X6704; considering that this last 10G card doesn't support VSL, I need to realize VSS interchassis connections on Supervisor 10G interfaces, but I only have X2-10G-LR. Considering that the 2 6500 are in short distance (few meters): is it possible to use 10G long range optics and, if yes, do I need some additional patch?

I have an old White BT router (from the UK)
Also a 60m ethernet cable. It won't send a signal far enough to be picked up by an ethernet port on another computer at that distance via cable.
However, a modern Zyxel Router will chuck it through that length of cable OK
way to get the BT router (v1 or 1.5) to do this ?

Our house is located up a hill and a long way (1,400ft) from the main road and we always have problems with the signal dropping on our cable internet connection. According to the line tech's that have been to our house the problem lies with the 20+ year old cable that is being used to get the cable signal from the road box to the house
I am wanting to replace that cable but from what i have read so far is that cat 5/6 cannot go the distance i require
I have looked into going with a long range wi-fi but there is no direct line of site from the road to the house and there are a million tree's in between us and the road so its not really practical .we are not needing any major amount of speed, just enough to do surfing, streaming, and the kids like to do multiplayer gaming. 7-10mbps would be great for us, before we started having problems with the cable we were only getting 4-5mbps and that was enough for what we needed
