I'm reading the CCNA Sec book (554) and I've just finished a few chapters on CCP.Is the tool free? Can it be simulated in PT, or emulated in GNS3? Speaking of which, can the entire CCNA/CCNP Sec track be emulated in GNS3?
View 6 RepliesI'm looking to sit the ICND2 exam soon and have discovered that the pair of old 2924XL switches are not going to cut the mustard for the newer vlan commands and other features.
Would a pair of WS-C3550-24-SMI switches be a sensible replacement for ICND2 and possibly up to CCNP? They are available on ebay for about £80 each.
I was just brushing up few things in GNS3 and after setting up an SLA.Now when I want to set the track ip I get not option for sla why??I am running c3725-adventerprisek9-mz.124-15.T5 shouldn't it be available?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI ordered a set of hardware that came with CBT videos; however, the videos they sent do not exactly match the hardware and I'm stumped.
I have 3 routers:
2610XM: Indianapolis
2620:New_England
2610:Seattle
Indianapolis connects to New_England with a WIC-1DSU-T1
Indianapolis connects to Seattle with a WIC-1T
The interfaces are up on all three devices and so are the protocols. The videos are of 2500 series routers and they only use the WIC-1T card. When I try to set the clock rate for the s0/1 on New England to 1000000 like the video suggest I get an error "this command only applies to DCE interfaces". Do I not need to set this on the WIC-1DSU-T1 interface?
Whenever I issue router rip and try to set network such as:
router rip
network 10.0.1.0
network 10.0.10.0
network 10.0.20.0
the network won't save on any of the devices. If I show the running-config it shows network 10.0.0.0 I've tried saving the config directly after exiting outt of the config mode, but still only 10.0.0.0
Is buying 2 WS-C3550-24-EMI enough for the ccnp switch 642-813 (+GNS3)???????? (real switches can be connected to GNS3 right ?)

View 8 Replies View RelatedI am currently working on an example for a CCNP Spanning Tree Protocol example.I have some lectures on video and getting confused with an example they have provided. It has me baffled as I have compared it against numerous other websites, trawled forums and tried to get other examples to compare it against.Anyway, I have posted screenshots of the topology. They are as follows:
1) topology showing links so can assign costs (100mbps = STP cost 19, 1000mbps = STP cost 4)
2) topology show priority and MAC addresses (priority left at default so root bridge elected by lowest MAC address)
3) topology showing elected root ports **which I do not agree with for switches E & F**
4) topology showing subsequent blocked ports **which I do not agree with for switches D & F, even if I accepted the previous given root port election*** I understand for same cost paths to root bridge that lowest bridge ID wins. So here are my queries:
1) switch E has 2 equal cost paths to root bridge (A):
-via: E > D > A (4 + 19)
-via: E > C > A (4 + 19)
so I think pick the next hop switch with lower bridge ID. Switch C right? In this example it says pick port going to switch D. I am confused! Why pick port going toward switch D?
2) switch F has 2 equal cost paths to root bridge (A):
-via: F > C > A (4 + 19)
-via: F > D > A (4 + 19)

After some searching I see many people using power injectors or switches that supploy PoE. I am building a lab for the CCNA Wireless and currently have an old Cisco 3550 PoE switch and a 2106 Controller that I got at a steal of a price. My question is, The 1142 can use the 15.4 Inline Power from the 3550 even though it is not the 802.11af standard correct? If it doesn't then I will need to order a power brick.

The major problem is that the security team in place now was not around when it was implemented a few years ago. Weve got about 1500 users, so its not going to be a small project to say the least. Fortunately for us, the team that set it up didn't do much with it. IT only really checks the user against AD and permits or quarantines the user/machine, that's it.

I work as an administrator for a small business (~30pc and a Windows 2003 R2 server ).Recently, we started to have problem with our lan, the network start to kinda lock-up randomly. For example, browsing folders is fine then you switch to one and the explorer window just do nothing (with a loading cursor) and after 4 second everything refresh and work again, then in word or any other program (sometime not even related to network files/folder) you press the save button and it do the same, do nothing for 4-5 seconds then refresh and work again.I'm positive that no process on the server take up enough CPU time to do that, it's not a per-pc problem since everybody is affected when the problem start and when I reboot the server it work like a charm for another day then the problem may restart the next day.Nothing show up in the event viewer of both PCs and the server and we can't find a correlation between the problem and high CPU/LAN usage on the server (at worse CPU is used at 10% and LAN at 2%).Our RAID controller and our SAS HDs are working flawlessly, we're in the process to change our infrastructure anyway but since I can refer to people that may know their stuff way more than myself I though Id ask here.We first though that our switches may be in cause but then why rebooting the server would be correcting the problem ?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI am in charge of taking care our small office network (about 25 PC's) and encountered a problem the other day. I got a call that nothing network related was working. I went to look at the switches/router and everything appeared fine. After some troubleshooting i found if i unplugged the switch and connected directly the the router everything worked prefect. Reconnected the switch, network goes down again. I assumed it was the switch at first but then did a walk around and a laptop was in a weird frozen state. I unhooked the network cable and everything started working away like it should.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI want to ping my GNS3 routers from my real LAN PCs. Right now I am able to ping those GNS3 routers from real PC on which GNS3 is installed. The network topology is something like this.
-IP of GNS3 PC on which GNS3 is installed. 192.168.1.102/24 default gateway of LAN: 192.168.1.1/24
I have created a loopback adapter and assigned the IP address of 192.168.1.200/24 (IP is also of same LAN) the cloud and virtual router is dragged and router interface is assigned the IP 192.168.1.201/24. I am able to ping my router interface from 192.168.1.102 (System on which GNS3 is installed). What I want is to ping my router's interface from other LAN PCs line 192.168.1.104, 192.168.105 or from my gateway 192.168.1.1.
After recently setting up a new computer, my entire network seems to randomly loose internet connection. The interval between connection losses is as short as half an hour but it sometimes goes several hours without dying; the connections is lost for anywhere between 30 seconds and 20 minutes each time it dies.The new computer is running Windows 7 and is using a Roeswill USB wireless adapter, but I have tired it with a wire and the connection still dies. I am disinclined to believe that this is caused by a virus simply because this is a brand new computer that has had only minimal use; to be on the safe side, though, I did do virus scans with multiple programs, however, I did not find anything.When the connection is lost, a yellow exclamation appears on the task bar's internet access icon. If I check my available networks, my network still shows full strength. I have tried disconnecting and reconnecting but nothing happens; I don't get any "failure to connect" type errors nor do I get connection back. I have also tried physically removing the adapter/wire and plugging it back in, but that doesn't do anything either.
I am under the impression that the new Windows 7 computer is doing something to temporarily kill the entire network, but I don't know what.For the record, my modem is an old Motorola and my router is an old Netgear. Both are quite a few years old, but I don't think they are the problem as my internet was fine before I added the new Windows 7 computer. There are wired computers and wireless computers running XP, Vista, and 7 also on the network.
Shortly after creating a VPN connection on one of the computers, the network is turned off. The router remains powered on but no internet access or access between computers is possible. At first we put it to coincidence but after 3 times, we can't figure out what is happening.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to do a Multicast lab in gns3 with a tap interface in os x and a linux vm in virtualbox. The os x box is broadcasting to 224.1.1.1. I have verified IP connectivity. I am using PIM dense mode. When I perform a packet capture on the tap interface I see no traffic to 224.1.1.1. However when I ping 224.1.1.1 from os x I see the traffic. Attached is my topology

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have 2 computers on a network, and 3 devices that use wifi on the same network. Basically when ever computer A is connected, every single computer or device on the network runs extremely slow, if at all. I get anywhere between 1200-2000 ping on pingtest with 2-60% packet loss. Even the speed on the "infected" computer A downloads extremely slow. I'm at a loss for this problem, everything runs slow and its because of the one computer connected to it. I have virus software on this computer, but its not the best so i'm not ruling out malware or viruses right off the bat.
Devices: Blackberry, Iphone, macbook (all wifi)
Computer A
Runs windows xp 32 bit,
amd processor
onboard video

The internet modem runs to a router (Dlink dir615) then to a switch (or hub, if you will) and then to the 2 computers. The entire problem is solved by unplugging computer A from the system. But other than that I have no alternative.
If i use PPTP or OpenVPN does this encrypt my entire connection to the internet or just web browsing?
