Shortly after creating a VPN connection on one of the computers, the network is turned off. The router remains powered on but no internet access or access between computers is possible. At first we put it to coincidence but after 3 times, we can't figure out what is happening.
View 1 RepliesIm using a Linksys router, when I connect my Dell XPS 14z to the router wirelessly the connection drops out, the DSL and Internet lights go off and re-connect 5 minutes later creating an endless cycle. I'm not sure if it's the laptop settings or the router settings.
Using my mobile phones/xbox360/Alienware m11x the connection is stable and it doesnt drop out, using the XPS 14z makes it go off.
I've updated my network card drivers for the XPS 14z; i've kept playing around with settings on both the laptop and the router but no success?
if its possible to set a maximum bandwidth for the entire wlan or for entire Vlan in the WLC 5508 ?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI am in charge of taking care our small office network (about 25 PC's) and encountered a problem the other day. I got a call that nothing network related was working. I went to look at the switches/router and everything appeared fine. After some troubleshooting i found if i unplugged the switch and connected directly the the router everything worked prefect. Reconnected the switch, network goes down again. I assumed it was the switch at first but then did a walk around and a laptop was in a weird frozen state. I unhooked the network cable and everything started working away like it should.
View 9 Replies View RelatedAfter recently setting up a new computer, my entire network seems to randomly loose internet connection. The interval between connection losses is as short as half an hour but it sometimes goes several hours without dying; the connections is lost for anywhere between 30 seconds and 20 minutes each time it dies.The new computer is running Windows 7 and is using a Roeswill USB wireless adapter, but I have tired it with a wire and the connection still dies. I am disinclined to believe that this is caused by a virus simply because this is a brand new computer that has had only minimal use; to be on the safe side, though, I did do virus scans with multiple programs, however, I did not find anything.When the connection is lost, a yellow exclamation appears on the task bar's internet access icon. If I check my available networks, my network still shows full strength. I have tried disconnecting and reconnecting but nothing happens; I don't get any "failure to connect" type errors nor do I get connection back. I have also tried physically removing the adapter/wire and plugging it back in, but that doesn't do anything either.
I am under the impression that the new Windows 7 computer is doing something to temporarily kill the entire network, but I don't know what.For the record, my modem is an old Motorola and my router is an old Netgear. Both are quite a few years old, but I don't think they are the problem as my internet was fine before I added the new Windows 7 computer. There are wired computers and wireless computers running XP, Vista, and 7 also on the network.
I have 2 computers on a network, and 3 devices that use wifi on the same network. Basically when ever computer A is connected, every single computer or device on the network runs extremely slow, if at all. I get anywhere between 1200-2000 ping on pingtest with 2-60% packet loss. Even the speed on the "infected" computer A downloads extremely slow. I'm at a loss for this problem, everything runs slow and its because of the one computer connected to it. I have virus software on this computer, but its not the best so i'm not ruling out malware or viruses right off the bat.

The internet modem runs to a router (Dlink dir615) then to a switch (or hub, if you will) and then to the 2 computers. The entire problem is solved by unplugging computer A from the system. But other than that I have no alternative.
I have the E1000 Linksys Router and I am using a network cable to connect to my Sony Blu-ray BDP-S370. When I watch HULU through the player it kills the entire internet connection for all PCs. I have to unplug the router in order to restart it. Everything will also work just fine until the next crash.Here's the thing, I'll watch a bit of the show and see the commercials and the router will only crash when it comes back to the show. If I watched 100 commercials they would not crash, but as soon as it returns to the show CRASH. Restart and we watch again.

I'm having a heck of a time doing this, I loginto my router via the browser (the web setup) (because I think Cisco Connect on the Mac is about the worst software ever written.) And I go to the Access Restrictions page. There I understand I'll have to use the Internet Access Policy pane to make some more advanced settings than the Parental Control.
I enter a name for my rule, so far so good. Enable it. Go to the applied PC page. Open the page to enter MAC adresses and IP's. I go to the IP Address Range field and entere in the box numbered 01; 192.168.2.2 to 192.168.2.51 which in my case is the enitre network. Save the setttings and close that window.
I don't set Access Restriction to deny becasue that seems to block the entire network.
So I go the the Website Blocking by URL Address option and enter the URL I want to block.
I don't do anything wiht the the Blocked Applications since I don't want to block a specific service or application. So I click Save Settings.
And yet when I go to the URL I want to block it doesn't work! [URL]
I have a belkin N300 router that works decent most of the time, but anytime my roommate connects with her macbook pro the whole network becomes slow to the point of uselessness. If i block her computer using mac address filtering, the latency and download speeds are right where they should be, but as soon as i allow her back on ping jumps to 800-1000 and DL speeds drop to under 1mb.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a the aforementioned router set up with one PC laptop connected via ethernet cable and two to five other devices (PC laptops, iPhone, iPad, Linux Laptop) connected at any given time. About once or twice a week the router drops the network. I can still see the SSID, but can't connect on any device. The wired laptop gets dropped as well. I tried to ping its IP, but it says the device is unreachable. The only solution is to walk upstairs and unplug the router, which fixes it every time until a few days later when it happens again. I've restored factory settings a number of times.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just got a new notebook that has windows ultimate, and whenever i turn it on it knocks off all the other PCS on the network and the printer, including the one the router is wired to. I can only get it to pick up all 4 devices when i go into the Lynksys program and click change password. But then the program locks up and i have to shut it off manually.
I already reset the router four times trying to get it to pick up all the PCs but it never works. I'm ready to toss the router and get something else. Are there any settings I can change or reset before this router becomes garbage fodder?
I have a Gateway Laptop that knocks out my att dsl connection randomly. It happens when it is connected by wire or wireless. I have other devices that use the the internet connection without any problem including an ipad, cell phones, and wireless tv's. They all connect and the signal never gets interupted, but when I use my gateway laptop with in a few minutes the I start losing signal randomly. It does lock back on but usually continues to in and out.

This other lap top I can connect either wired or wireless so the router seems to be working perfectlyThe problem is when I enable the HP laptop wireless adaptor and try to connect to the net . As soon as I do this the orange light on the router goes solid from blinking and I cannot then access the net from any of the computers either wired or wireless. I have to disable the HP wireless adaptor and reboot the router to get a connection on the computers.

This is only happening on the iphone 5, and not other apple devices using mirroring. Our ipad 3 mirrors perfectly without affecting the wifi. There isn't any specific settings on the iphone 5 for airplay apart from setting it on and off.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI work as an administrator for a small business (~30pc and a Windows 2003 R2 server ).Recently, we started to have problem with our lan, the network start to kinda lock-up randomly. For example, browsing folders is fine then you switch to one and the explorer window just do nothing (with a loading cursor) and after 4 second everything refresh and work again, then in word or any other program (sometime not even related to network files/folder) you press the save button and it do the same, do nothing for 4-5 seconds then refresh and work again.I'm positive that no process on the server take up enough CPU time to do that, it's not a per-pc problem since everybody is affected when the problem start and when I reboot the server it work like a charm for another day then the problem may restart the next day.Nothing show up in the event viewer of both PCs and the server and we can't find a correlation between the problem and high CPU/LAN usage on the server (at worse CPU is used at 10% and LAN at 2%).Our RAID controller and our SAS HDs are working flawlessly, we're in the process to change our infrastructure anyway but since I can refer to people that may know their stuff way more than myself I though Id ask here.We first though that our switches may be in cause but then why rebooting the server would be correcting the problem ?

The major problem is that the security team in place now was not around when it was implemented a few years ago. Weve got about 1500 users, so its not going to be a small project to say the least. Fortunately for us, the team that set it up didn't do much with it. IT only really checks the user against AD and permits or quarantines the user/machine, that's it.

what i got is an internet connection from a network socket in my room where when i conect my computer to it and open a browser i need to enter a username and password in. once my connection to the net has been idol for 30 mins or my computer is switched off i then get disconnected and have to sign in again via my web browser.
what i want to do is stick my router in to that connection and then connect to the net wifi style with my i pod/wii/phone/ laptop ext ext.
how i do this without having to keep my pc switched on.

As a result, we can only have one computer connected to the internet at a time via this wired connection. The problem is, I live with my partner and we both need internet access for our separate computers. We both need to be online at the same time. What is the easiest and most simple way to accomplish this? I don't know much about hubs, routers, and switches. I imagine there should be some sort of basic splitting device I could plug into wall which would allow 2 computers to use the ethernet port.
