I wanted to know if I can somehow setup my network to use a proxy for all connected devices?
For example I can go into Firefox proxy settings and setup to browse using proxy. Is there any way to do this at the router or switch level to not have to configure every device individually I have a wndr3700 router and a HP procurve 1810g switch and am thinking of building a pfsense box.
if its possible to set a maximum bandwidth for the entire wlan or for entire Vlan in the WLC 5508 ?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to block two URL's over the entire network via my E4200. I'm having a heck of a time doing this, I loginto my router via the browser (the web setup) (because I think Cisco Connect on the Mac is about the worst software ever written.) And I go to the Access Restrictions page. There I understand I'll have to use the Internet Access Policy pane to make some more advanced settings than the Parental Control.
I enter a name for my rule, so far so good. Enable it. Go to the applied PC page. Open the page to enter MAC adresses and IP's. I go to the IP Address Range field and entere in the box numbered 01; 192.168.2.2 to 192.168.2.51 which in my case is the enitre network. Save the setttings and close that window.
I don't set Access Restriction to deny becasue that seems to block the entire network.
So I go the the Website Blocking by URL Address option and enter the URL I want to block.
I don't do anything wiht the the Blocked Applications since I don't want to block a specific service or application. So I click Save Settings.
And yet when I go to the URL I want to block it doesn't work! [URL]
I have a the aforementioned router set up with one PC laptop connected via ethernet cable and two to five other devices (PC laptops, iPhone, iPad, Linux Laptop) connected at any given time. About once or twice a week the router drops the network. I can still see the SSID, but can't connect on any device. The wired laptop gets dropped as well. I tried to ping its IP, but it says the device is unreachable. The only solution is to walk upstairs and unplug the router, which fixes it every time until a few days later when it happens again. I've restored factory settings a number of times.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just got a new notebook that has windows ultimate, and whenever i turn it on it knocks off all the other PCS on the network and the printer, including the one the router is wired to. I can only get it to pick up all 4 devices when i go into the Lynksys program and click change password. But then the program locks up and i have to shut it off manually.
I already reset the router four times trying to get it to pick up all the PCs but it never works. I'm ready to toss the router and get something else. Are there any settings I can change or reset before this router becomes garbage fodder?
Is it possible with the DIR-601 to have one of the IP's on the LAN route all traffic through a proxy server? I would like to have my Roku device (which I've setup as a static on the LAN side) to always connect though a proxy, while all my other devices connect to the internet normally.

I'm running both the 2.4 GHz and the 5.0 GHz networks over the same SSID. The goal, obviously, is to get everything over to N if possible. I've heard that wireless N has much better signal and transfer rates, is this true? Also, is running the two different frequencies with the same SSID problematic? It's kind of strange, because my Nexus One is having a difficult time staying connected to the network in my office while the main workstation laptop in the same room is getting a much better signal.

What's interesting is that both are running on the 2.4 GHz networks, essentially both not on the wireless n network, which kind of defeats the whole purpose of things. Is it bad to run both the 2.4 and 5.0 GHz networks with the same SSID? If using a network repeater, is it bad to rebroadcast the original network with the same SSID as the source network? It seems that the 5.0 GHz network is getting "clobbered" by the 2.4 GHz network. Is it really necessary for me to broadcast using different SSIDs?
i set-up the D-LINK DNS 323 NAS unit with RAID 1 (dual 2-terabyte 5400 rpm drives)
it works, but it is slow in copying files between my computer and it (8 minutes to copy 7.94 gig file between NAS and my PC via wire).
i am using netgear WNDR3700 gigabit router. replaced the network wires to the latest spec, and my computer has realtek PCIe GBE network adapter.
this is looking more and more like the NAS RAID 1 is the bottleneck.. possibly 7200 RPM drives would have kicked more ass?
I am in charge of taking care our small office network (about 25 PC's) and encountered a problem the other day. I got a call that nothing network related was working. I went to look at the switches/router and everything appeared fine. After some troubleshooting i found if i unplugged the switch and connected directly the the router everything worked prefect. Reconnected the switch, network goes down again. I assumed it was the switch at first but then did a walk around and a laptop was in a weird frozen state. I unhooked the network cable and everything started working away like it should.
View 9 Replies View Relatedwe're running some HP ProCurve 2520's (24 port PoE for desktops/phones) and 2510's for our server racks. The CPU's are a bit weak from what we can tell and sometimes end up with issues on them. The specs on the EAS series look like a decent jump compared to the older HP's. However I've never worked with these ever.
My other option is to go back to Cisco. However to make it fit our budget, we have to dump gig switches for 10/100 + PoE. Which isn't really a major issue on the desktop switches. We'll naturally put gig versions on the server racks. I like our ProCurves, however they cause issues from time to time.
I've also considered going back to Adtran, however I haven't kept up with what they have to offer. I'm tempted to play it safe and go the Cisco route. We're using ASA5510's active/passive for routing/firewall (gig versions).
After recently setting up a new computer, my entire network seems to randomly loose internet connection. The interval between connection losses is as short as half an hour but it sometimes goes several hours without dying; the connections is lost for anywhere between 30 seconds and 20 minutes each time it dies.The new computer is running Windows 7 and is using a Roeswill USB wireless adapter, but I have tired it with a wire and the connection still dies. I am disinclined to believe that this is caused by a virus simply because this is a brand new computer that has had only minimal use; to be on the safe side, though, I did do virus scans with multiple programs, however, I did not find anything.When the connection is lost, a yellow exclamation appears on the task bar's internet access icon. If I check my available networks, my network still shows full strength. I have tried disconnecting and reconnecting but nothing happens; I don't get any "failure to connect" type errors nor do I get connection back. I have also tried physically removing the adapter/wire and plugging it back in, but that doesn't do anything either.
I am under the impression that the new Windows 7 computer is doing something to temporarily kill the entire network, but I don't know what.For the record, my modem is an old Motorola and my router is an old Netgear. Both are quite a few years old, but I don't think they are the problem as my internet was fine before I added the new Windows 7 computer. There are wired computers and wireless computers running XP, Vista, and 7 also on the network.
Shortly after creating a VPN connection on one of the computers, the network is turned off. The router remains powered on but no internet access or access between computers is possible. At first we put it to coincidence but after 3 times, we can't figure out what is happening.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have 2 computers on a network, and 3 devices that use wifi on the same network. Basically when ever computer A is connected, every single computer or device on the network runs extremely slow, if at all. I get anywhere between 1200-2000 ping on pingtest with 2-60% packet loss. Even the speed on the "infected" computer A downloads extremely slow. I'm at a loss for this problem, everything runs slow and its because of the one computer connected to it. I have virus software on this computer, but its not the best so i'm not ruling out malware or viruses right off the bat.

The internet modem runs to a router (Dlink dir615) then to a switch (or hub, if you will) and then to the 2 computers. The entire problem is solved by unplugging computer A from the system. But other than that I have no alternative.
I have a belkin N300 router that works decent most of the time, but anytime my roommate connects with her macbook pro the whole network becomes slow to the point of uselessness. If i block her computer using mac address filtering, the latency and download speeds are right where they should be, but as soon as i allow her back on ping jumps to 800-1000 and DL speeds drop to under 1mb.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy switch is a HP 1810G-24 - Firmware P.2.2. As I read everywhere that this piece is nearly unbreakable I bought a used one from ebay. When I got it, it had a P.1.1. Firmware, so I upgeded to the latest P.2.2 via 2.1 ...My router is a Fritz!Box 7390 with original AVM Firmware.
Now my problem: If I reset it with the two reset switches to factory defaults w/o connection to my router I can access the managemet interface via Firefox or IE easily. (IP-Switch: 192.168.2.10 - IP-PC:192.168.2.12 - both static)
When I activate DHCP or use a static IP outside my DHCP Range (Range 002-200; IP Switch: 192.xxx.xxx.201) and plug in my cable to the router, I can't access the interface anymore. Even pings get lost.
The HP page is quite reluctant with information and exchanging it is also no option.
I am trying to setup a small network For a project. I'll first go over the goal, then current equipment, and what I've done.
Goal is to provide internet access to all, with separate between the groups. The groups are Staff, student, multimedia team, and general use. Reason to separate them is for fileshare, Print/scan, security. A second goal is also to provide wireless internet access to the staff group And general usage. here's the equipment I have.
2x hp 1810g-24
1x asus rt-n66u (dot1q supporting)
2x wireless access points (cisco 1231g and engenius eap150, with a dd-wrt rt-n16 as the access point manage)
Here is what I've tried to do..
I've created four additional vlans on top of the default (vlan1)
vlan10 - staff
vlan20 - student
vlan30 - multimedia team
vlan40 - general use
I then turned port 2 on switch number 1 to a trunk, and trunked it to port 1 of switch number 2.The trunks I have them tagged on both switch.All hosts on the network will mostly be just basic computers/laptops/printers/etc.I've tried a number of methods, but can't seem to get it to work smoothly.I just need all the vlans to be able to reach port 1 of switch 1( the router)

I've been replacing my Netgear WNDR3700 (currently only serving as wired router and gigabit switch) with an Untangle box.Obviously, only the free "Lite" version would be worth it, as the others are priced ridiculously for non business use. I've had a hard time figuring out from their webpage how the features of the "Lite" compare to the others, particularly how Spam Blocker Lite, Web Filter Lite and Virus Blocker Lite compare to the full versions of each.
Is the untangle router any good? I have set up a private domain network at home. I have a domain controller, a DNS server, and a DHCP server all running on one Windows 2003 Server machine. I have about 10 other machines around the house, getting their IP addresses from this DHCP server.
I have a Netgear WNDR3700 router.
I am about to get 5 public IP addresses from my ISP, and I would like to make some of these machines publicly accessible (while still accessible from the other machines in the network).
I found this link that says on my web server (one of the public machines), that I should use a second NIC and set that up to connect to my router (and get a private IP address from my DHCP server).

I was only able to achieve 1Gb/s with 1 of my cables(which is actually a few feet to short for my shortest run). Both PCs have gigabit capability. What are the chances that 5 out of 6 cat5e cables are bad? Am I missing something?

I figured the best way to do this is by setting the proxy on my router to the one I am running, but then I would need to have another connection to the computer running the proxy or else there would be an infinite loop ?? something like that. so:

I have the E1000 Linksys Router and I am using a network cable to connect to my Sony Blu-ray BDP-S370. When I watch HULU through the player it kills the entire internet connection for all PCs. I have to unplug the router in order to restart it. Everything will also work just fine until the next crash.Here's the thing, I'll watch a bit of the show and see the commercials and the router will only crash when it comes back to the show. If I watched 100 commercials they would not crash, but as soon as it returns to the show CRASH. Restart and we watch again.

Hence I use a software called your-freedom. This proxy software supports both http as well as socks 4 and 5 proxy (by entering the proxy IP 127.0.0.1 (localhost) and Port 8080 for http proxy OR 1080 for Socks Proxy), and I have successfully been using web browsers and some other softwares that support proxy/ allow proxy info to be entered to login/ connect to the internet. Your-Freedom also supports port forwarding.However, the softwares I intend to use do not have any options to enter proxy methods or proxy ports (as far as I have noticed). I have tried to proxify these 2 softwares using softwares such as SocksCap and Free Cap, but either they don�t work, or my settings in proxifying are not correct. I believe I will have to do port forwarding or proxify the softwares, but have been unable to do so in the correct manner.
Following is the info on the 2 softwares:

I puchased the N600 WNDR3700v3 Dual Band Gigabit Router. I am able to see my wireless account I set up and is out there to connect to, but I cant connect. I can connect with an ethernet cord, but nothing wireless. It doesnt work for my home or work laptops. Prior to this I had another wireless set up and I am tempted to plug that one back in.

I'm trying to use the DAP-1522 as a wireless bridge to provide connectivity to my entertainment center which consist of a PS3, Directv DVR and Internet ready TV. I tried the setup as described in the manual, but not getting to the internet. Initially I was able to connect the 1522 as a bridge, but the connection kept dropping, especially anytime I actually used the internet (downloading a VOD movie). While troubleshooting the dropping issue, I changed all the 1522 settings and now it cannot access the internet at all through. The WNDR3700 is routing my home network fine...it is setup on the 192.168.1.x address space. I understand the 1522 came setup for 192.168.0.x, is the 192.168.1.x/192.168.0.x thing jacking things up? I initially had the 1522 setup with the 192.168.1.x IP from my home network and the gateway set to my WNDR3700 (192.168.1.1)...should it be on the 192.168.0.x? I have updated the firmware to 1.31.

However, now that I have a bigger place i want to connect the ext hard drive to the router so I can take my computer where I want. However, I cannot connect the hard drive to the router. I can plug it into the router, of course, but it will not appear under the Network folders (I use Window's Vista).
