Cisco :: Manually Update The Software Of Router Without Interface?
Jan 30, 2013
I recently bought a WRT120N Cisco router off of eBay. The seller, sadly, did not have the WiFi password or online interface username and password. I figured: 'Hey, no big deal, I'll just reset it.' I tried multiple times to no avail.I found out that is was a software issue. I looked up how to update the software, and what do you know? The only way I found to update the software was through the online interface. So, basically,I can't log into my router, can't reset it, and to do so, I need to access the interface which I can't do. How to possibly manually update the software of the router without the interface?
My SRP527W has never had its firmware upgraded since purchase. I had a need to do this recently, but could not find the section under Administration for Firmware upgrade. The only two items under Administration are Time Setup and Switch Setting.I've tried different browsers, to make sure that was not an issue, with no success. Any direct URL to the modem web interface that might allow me to update the firmware. url...Otherwise is there another method using a USB stick or tftp or similar?
I recently upgraded my WRT610N to Firmware Version: 2.00.01 and now the unit powers down on its own after a few hours. Are there any known issues with this firmware? Is there any way to roll back to the previous version of the firmware?

In order to use public IP provided by the ISP, I have to enter the specific APN.It's however no matter what I type in the field of the APN, the router is still connected to the default APN settings from ISP.I have tried typed wrong string in the field of APN, the router is still connected to the default APN successfully.
I have a pair of data center core 6500 is running a single EIGRP AS with the standard core redundant cross connects. Recently an SVI sub net was expanded from a /24 to a /23 and dropped out of the EIGRP routing table. Subsequent trouble shooting lead to the router id being one using an IP address that is no longer active IP address.
Reviewing old configurations I found, that year ago, the ip address used for the EIGRP router-id (10.100.106.3) was removed from the active interface and changed but the EIGRP router-id was not updated. The switch has not been rebooted since, no loop back is configured and there is not a higher IP configured on an active interface. Reviewing documented material on it, I cannot find anything specific on this condition but do see in the discussions on duplicate IDs, that new route updates can be a problem. I know how to update the router id but I am looking for confirmation on what would be the impact when I add a new loop back and manually configure the router-id under the EIGRP process with the new loop back IP.
My assumption is an EIGRP update and route re convergence with the standard 90 seconds of outage. How to confirm this is assumption is correct? I have no test bed to find out myself without doing this on the active cores.

I have a Netgear ProSafe FVS318 wireless router whose login information I have lost. I have attempted to manually reset it using the reset button on the back, and return it to factory default settings (thus resetting the login information to admin/password).I have checked everywhere, including the documentation for the router itself. I have gotten multiple instructions on how to reset it (generally telling me to hold the button down for anywhere from 10 seconds to 30 seconds until the test light blinks or stays solid and then blinks or stays solid again, or telling me to hold down the button while turning it on). None of these methods have worked. The router still will not reset. It never reboots no matter how long I hold down the button, no matter when I release it, no matter what the orange "test" light is doing, and no matter if I begin with the router on or off. It will not reboot and I still cannot login.
The orange "test" light has behaved the same way each time; after 10 seconds, it turns solid, and then begins blinking before turning back off. After 20 seconds, it turns solid, and then turns off. It does this if I hold the reset button down for 10 seconds, regardless of whether or not I release the button after it first turns solid. If I continue to hold down the reset button, it continues this pattern indefinitely, for as long as the button is held. When I turn the router on, it turns solid before turning off, regardless of whether I am holding the rest button down. Its behavior never deviates from the observed patterns regardless of what I do. At no point has the router ever rebooted on its own.The default login should be admin/password, as this information is included on the bottom of the router, and in its documentation.
We have a Model WRT54GLWireless-G router. At least once a day it loses it's internet connection. All computers that are wired to the switch that is connected to it lose their internet as well as any wireless devices. I have to manually power-cycle the router to get internet back.
how do I block IP/Internet Adresses for ALL users without adding the sites manually per user in the Parental Control panel? I want to block a certain IP/internet adress for all users but can't find this feature within my EA6500 anywhere? Is this a firmware bug? Has linskys forgotten that some sites want to blocked for all users and how do I do it all in one?
i have a 1841 cisco router and i recently purchased a 1 port HWIC wan interface card. My problem is that I cannot see the interface in my config file. Is there something i am missing?
Is it possible to set up a WAN interface on a FastEthernet interface of a Cisco 877 Adsl Router ?Due to my ISP, i've to use an external VDSL modem and must connect it to my cisco 877 router (and leave it's adsl interface unused). But i don't know how to set up a wan port, other than the adsl interface itself (dialer0), on my cisco.
I've got the following problem using my DLink DSL-2740B with the latest firmware:On all my devices (Notebook, Netbook, iPhone, Set top Box, TV...) I need to manually set the IP of my internet providers DNS server or else, URL's can't be resolved. I'm pretty sure that the Router/Gateway is set up correctly as the status page of the router does show both the primary and secondary DNS servers IP addresses. Both have been automatically detected by the router. On my different devices, if I leave the DNS IP to be automatically detected, they will use the Routers IP as their DNS server IP (e.g. 192.168.1.1), which is the way it should be I'd think. However, trying to access (in browser or through ping or whatever) any URL, it just won't work. I need to manually enter the DNS's IP in the device.
After cleaning the PC from malware part of the settings in "Network connections" does not work. In auto mode everything is OK IP address is set and internet connection runs fine. When I tried to set it up manually - "right click" or "double click" on the connection, the PC stucks without message until "Ctr-Alt-Del". I know that reinstalling Windows will work, but I'm looking for easier way.
I have an access point 1310. I want to add to the WLC as an access point. It have been configured with IP address correctly and the radio interface is up. I need to add it to the WLC as CAPWAP.
I am supporting a small cluster of AP541N WAPs and would like to know if there is an easy way to manually disconnect an associated client (recognized by MAC address) from the Associated Clients screen in the Access Point Configuration Utility Status view. That type of feature might come in handy with unruly bandwidth hogs down the road.
I have problem in recently installed LMS 4.1 Device discovery will not start when launched manually. When i hit the button, it doesn't even give a popup window saying that the discovery is started and that email will be sent... If I schedule it is launched, runs and finishes correctly. All proceses are started and it seems that application is working ok. LMS is installed on Win 2008 R2.
using packet tracer, how can i find dns server ip address and i am having trouble pinging the desktops and server that i manually assigned the ip addresses to
I have a acer aspire 5741 with win7 and i5. i have no problems once i am connected to my network, the problem is the acer will only connect when i do it manually.i have changed the adapter settings to connect automatically numerous times but when i reboot, the settings always change back to connect manually. i have tried other networks but the acer will only connect manually. like i said, once connected it works fine it just will not do it automatically.
I had a malware attack and decided to reload my XP Media Edition on my Dell XPS 400 series. After the disc reformat and reload of XP from the operating system CD, and then loading the drivers CD, I cannot connect to the internet. The plug for the ethernet cable is red/yellow on two different jacks in the house. The modem is supplied by ATT U-verse. The TCP/IP is connected at 400 Mb/s but showing "0" data transfer in or out. The internet connection was working before the XP reload. I did not backup an "image" and so I may have lost my registries? Is there a way to "turn on" the ethernet port?
How do I set the time on my WAG320N manually. I have set the time zone, but the time shown is 04-01-2000 15:33:52, and I can't find anywhere to correct this.
Belkin F7D4302 will not connect to ISP if I try to manually set DNS entry. Once I attempt this I have to reset the router back to factory defaults before the router will connect with ISP
I've found an issue with my SRP527W that is prohibiting me setting up a useful site to site VPN. In short, the "Enable ID: Default/Manual" option in the IKE policy screen does not seem to behave as advertised. Not matter what it's set to the remote end always ends up receiving the IP address of the DSL interface as its peer id.
The scenario is an SRP527W with a dynamically assigned DSL IP address connecting to a Netscreen SSG5 on a static IP. I have confirmed that:
- A Main Mode VPN works (but is no use on an ongoing basis due to the dynamic IP)
- An aggressive mode VPN works if the Netscreen has its peer ID set to the public IP of the SRP (....same dynamic IP issue)
However if I try to set a manual Remote ID in the SRP IKE Policy it does not get sent as part of the phase 1 negotiations. Debug logs on the Netscreen shows that it receives the DSL public IP no matter what.
Dumping the router config to XML [URL] shows no sign of the IP address that has been set via the interface (despite the setting visibly staying set in the interface). The rest of the VPN config shows up there.
I am doing an evaluation of LMS 4.0. I have loaded the system on Windows and manually added my core 3750 switch into the system. Device availability is showing the device as available. However, the other pollers like link utilization, error count, etc. all show that there is no data. When I go into the poller config, the pollers for link utilization and errors show 0 devices associated and a status of "instance not found". The CPU and availability pollers show active with my one device added. I have verified the credentials and if I go into Inventory -> Port and module and select my 3750 I do get a list of all the interfaces and the descriptions so LMS is connecting to the switch and pulling data.
So how do I get the pollers for link utilization and errors to start populating data?
Second question, during install I did configure the software update section and it said there was an LMS 4.0.1 available which I told it to download. Now I have a psu_download directory and some more directories like cm, cmf, etc. but I don't see any file on what to do with them. What do I need to do to install the new package files that were downlaoded to psu_download?
My wireless network consists mainly of approximately 1400 AP's 900 x 3602's, 500 x 3502's,The majority of these AP's especially the new ones have been manually optimised for channel and power settings. We paid an external surveyor to survey and optimise the AP's.
We have a few 5505 WLC's and the channel assignment method is set to "Freeze" ,My question is, if someone invokes a channel update on a WLC, will the WLC override the original manual channel setting if the WLC thinks it should be changed? And will the original setting be lost forever unless a restore is performed from the WLC Database?
I was looking for a way the manually re-authenticate dot1x client from cli and found this: [URL]
"You manually reauthenticate the client by entering the dot1x reauthenticate interface interface-id privileged EXEC command"
I've tried it 2960 with 12.2(58)SE and 15.0(2)SE, but it doesn't seems to be implemented. Have I missunderstood something? Or do you guys have any other command to accomplish a manually re-auth?
I have 3 WAP321, all set to uk time zone, all the settings restor apart from the time on reboot that defaults back to 1999 despite NTP server listed, interestingly have to manually reset time to present before NTP will update it
I got a new HP laptop running Windows 7. When I turn on my laptop, my wireless is off. So I click on F12 (my wireless button), to activate my wireless. The orange light turns blue. Even though the light indicates that my wireless is on, I have to go to device manager>networking>802.11n>advanced then activate my radio for my laptop to pick up the wireless signals. The problem is that I have to do this every time I turn on my laptop, and its getting quite repetitive.
i have a problem with our new 5508 wireless controller (7.0.116.0).
Port 1 is the system default "management" (Port 2 is backup). Dynamic AP Management is disabled. Port 3 is a new dynamic interface "ap-manager 2" with Dynamic AP Management enabled and has a ip in a seperated VLAN which is not routed.
When i am connecting the AP (1260 series) to the "ap-manager 2" interface, then it will not join and i get an error message on the WLC:
*spamApTask1: Mar 05 14:52:12.783: %CAPWAP- -DISC_INTF_ERR1:capwap_ac_sm.c:1453 Ignoring discovery request received on non-managementinterface (3) from AP
When i am connecting the AP to the "management2 interface, then it is working fine. But i don't want the APs in the Management LAN. I want them in the separated no routed LAN explicit for the APs.
I have a window 7 acer laptop, 3 as a matter of fact, i just upgraded to charter high speed internet and i have this new router its called ubee router/modem i have no trouble with my window xp with the wire less connection, but on the 3 windows 7 computers they will drop or lose the wireless conection and we have to refresh the network and it will do okay untill its shut off and it might connect, charter. We have a pair of CSS 11503 installed in our DC. Stickiness is configured for one of the application since long back and was working pretty fine till last couple of months. Since last two months, we observed that CSS is not distributing sessions the way it suppose to be. Mostly, it forwards the session to same server even though request is coming from different sources. Once we refresh the sessions manually, it starts working fine. We have to do this exercise manually every alternate day.

I am having a rather annoying problem. I run a small hotel (just 3 floors) and my modem gives a strong enough signal to provide wireless access to everybody in the house however I'm finding that a lot of people, whilst they can connect to the modem, cannot browse online. Connection just times out when they open their browsers.Recently a guest gave me his laptop and asked me if I could do anything with it. I'm by no means an expert when it comes to this kind of thing so I chanced my arm by putting his MAC address into the CP's Wireless/MAC Filter page. He connected immediately and was able to go online much to my relief.
Thing is, I don't want to have to do this for every guest that comes through my door! Is there any way everybody who has a laptop can connect without me manually entering their MAC addresses? MAC restrict mode is set to 'disabled' but I thought that would allow everybody unrestricted access?
