i got a compaq mini cq10 400sa given to me by my friend for the mean time as my laptop has stopped working. it runs on windows 7. it is not detecting any wireless network whatsoever.

I'm checking a mini laptop for a friend and found out that the wireless does not work on it. First I tried checking the button to activate it and it didn't work, even if the indicador says it's off/on it doesn't have an effect on the network adapter. The PC is running Windows 7 32-bit. I downloaded the Ralink 2011 802.11 b/g/n WiFi Adapter driver and tried reinstalling it. Funny thing is that the installation went smoothly but in the driver details the name of the driver shows the default Windows one, 3.0.0.14 I beleive. Tried again to install the driver since I thought it was a bad download or something but the same results. I've tried with the Atheros driver but the installer said that since the card is not present no drivers would be installed, so I assume that the model is the Ralink. So far the network card appears disabled on the network adapter window, and if I try to enable it, it remains disabled.

The Netbook is connected to my wireless network, but will not connect to the internet. It keeps asking me to transfer information, via thumb drive, from a wireless access point, but my router is my wireless connector and it doesn't have a USB port to plug in a thumb drive. How do I get this netbook hooked up to the internet?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an HP Compaq nc6220 that I just got up and running after an extended stint as a paperweight.It had previously worked great in terms of connecting to the internet via wireless.Now nothing.It let's me go into Wireless Network Setup Wizard and offers to let me set up new networks, etc...But as far as I can tell, it isn't detecting any networks (though they are all around me and detected on other computers) and giving me the option to log in.There is no "Device Manager" option that I can find on this computer, which some forum posts have suggested to other people with similar problems.

Compaq C700 Notebook running Windows Vista Home Premium SP2.Currently using DSL network and switching to cable modem with Linksys E1000 wireless router.When connecting to the router, it comes up as unidentified network and public. I can customize to change to private, but does not allow to change name.If I delete my current DSL Network, on start up I get a windows defender alert of whether it is a trusted, standard or public network. View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an ancient Compaq V2410 notebook which has started to drop my home Wifi connection recently (started about a week ago). At first, I thought it was the install of Firefox 8 as it froze and crashed but it happens with Chrome, IE and even when not running a browser.
My ISP is O2 in the UK and I have a DSL2+ service with the O2 Wireless Box II. I have gone through a power down cycle on the router and it continues to work with my ethernet-connected desktop PC. I have changed the Wireless Card in the notebook but fault is still intermittent. The notebook was also set to OpenDNS servers but that has been set back to Automatic DNS servers.
The notebook has the latest free versions of Avast Anti-virus & Comodo Firewall and the main issue is that the notebook has 640Mb system RAM which means that various Windows services have been Disabled or set to Manual.
I can sometimes recover the Wifi signal by switching the wireless on/off but it is sporadic. I have attached the Xirrus WiFi screenshots at startup, at fault state and at recovery state together with the ipconfig.txt output.
I have an issue with the Wireless Network. I have an old Compaq Presario V2000 laptop with WIN XP SP3. I formated the laptop OS and installed all the required drivers. I have a Dlink DIR 300 wireless router to connect to the Internet. I switched on the Wireless button; When I tried to connect to my network in Network connecction, I can't see my SSID displayed in available netowrk connections, though I can see others available connection there. I checked, whether my Router is broadcasting the SSID or not, and yes it is broadcasting. I tried with the security type as "WPA-PSK" with AES as well as with "WPA2-PSK" with AES, nothing worked for me. FYI, my room mate can easily access the network on his Sony Vaio CS 15 laptop with any of these two security type.I am fed up . I tried rebooting the router as well as my laptop multiple times.When I manually connect to my network SSID from "Wireless Network" tab in connection configuration, I see a "X" sign over my SSID with a Tower mark.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Lenovo laptop, and all of a sudden the wireless just vanishes.I notice that just before it cuts out, the music I am playing stutters for about 10 - 15 seconds before it happens. when it happens it cant detect any wireless and when i try to trouble shoot the issue it just tells me to plug in an ethernet cable. I check the wireless adapter settings in the device manager and it's working fine, I uninstall and re install. same problem.what I do find is, if I put the laptop to sleep and wake it up, it SOMETIMES works, but I can be doing this for 20 minutes or after one attempt another weird thing is, if I start it in safe mode it works fine. The system has no trouble detecting and shutting down honeypots. I would like to also automatically shut down Rouge on Wire points. The system sees my test AP just fine. And I have it completely open (no security). But the system never detects that the rouge is on our network so no action is taken. I can connect just fine to the test AP with no encription using DHCP and communicate with everything on the network just fine.Is there some setting I am missing that allows the APs to detect that an AP is on wire?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have just taken delivery of a new Inspiron N5110 with an Intel Centrino N-1030 wifi card. I also have two dual band routers (LInksys WRT600N) in different locations in the house.
My problem is that the laptop is detecting my routers Wireless-G signals but NOT the Wireless-N signals. I have checked to ensure that the N-1030 card has 802.11n Mode set to Enabled and have also tried both setting under "802.11n Channel Width for band 2.4" (i.e. Auto and 20 MHz Only) with no success.
My routers are configured with the Wireless-G signal only on 2.4 GHz and Wireless-N only on 5 GHz. I found this to be the best setting to avoid interference from neighbors wifi and cordless phones and have been happily using Wireless-N with my other Dell laptop with no problems (XPS M1530 with Intel 4965agn wireless card).Does the N-1030 card not work with 5 GHz Wireless-N?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just got a new notebook that has windows ultimate, and whenever i turn it on it knocks off all the other PCS on the network and the printer, including the one the router is wired to. I can only get it to pick up all 4 devices when i go into the Lynksys program and click change password. But then the program locks up and i have to shut it off manually.
I already reset the router four times trying to get it to pick up all the PCs but it never works. I'm ready to toss the router and get something else. Are there any settings I can change or reset before this router becomes garbage fodder?

My 2Wire modem/router from AT&T was failing to stay connected and was replaced today with a Netgear 7550 modem/router from AT&T. I installed the Netgear 7550 and am able to access the internet with my Asus Laptop, my LG Thrill phone, and my Samsung Galaxy 2 tablet with no problems. However, my Desktop cannot connect to the internet and the Window Network diagnostics returned the following message: Network Connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration.
