I am having trouble connecting to the internet with my windows 98se and DSL EQ660 RADSL 660series modem/router. Whats the procedure to connect to the internet with windows 98se using a DSL modem? Which if any items used for the connections do i need like (clients for microsoft networks,QoS Packet schedular,TCP/IP0)?

I go to troubleshoot the problem and I get "Local Area Connection 2 doesn't have a valid IP configuration". Its nothing with the router because when I plug my laptop in with the same ethernet cable, I am able to connect perfectly.
View 19 Replies View RelatedI have a Windows 7 computer with Comcast HSI. It's a very fast computer, but the modem was really outdated. So was the router. So, we got a brand new Cisco N+ Router and a Motorola SURFboard SB6121 modem with DOCSIS 3.0 and IPv6. However, when plugged in, the new modem will not consistenly connect to the internet. We called Comcast and they tried to send an activation code to the modem with it connected to the computer directly, but it was intermittently going online, then offline, then back online, then offline. We exchanged the modem for an identical one, but it's doing the same thing, so the modem can't be at fault here. Comcast tried to tell us that something was wrong with our coaxial cable, but our old modem - a Motorola SURFboard 4100 running DOCSIS 1.1 - was working just fine with the same cable. Another technological "improvement" has failed me.

We are able to connect to one or the other and can print when connected to the home network or we can surf when connected to the Pantech. We can connect to both networks at the same time, but when we do we can neither print or surf.. It cannot find the printer and does not access the internet at all. Is it possible to do this without buying additional hardware

Any device that I use connected wirelessly to my Belkin N300 router only acheives about 1.3 MBps of download speed. Is this just the way it is or could I have a router configuration issue or something else?

My laptop ( A Samsung NP550P5C-S02AU running windows 7 home premium) is not connecting to the modem (which is a D-link DSL-2740B-F1) For the past few weeks I have been able to fix this by resetting the modem/restarting the laptop and I also did a full restore on the laptop as well as completely reset the modem and updated the firmware. I've also tried two different wireless security settings, WPA and WPA2 neither of which have fixed the problem (though surprisingly it did work for a few days when changing over to to WPA). For the past couple of days the laptop has not been able to connect to the internet apart from a few times where the connection lasted 2-5 minutes. We have multiple computers and portable devices in the house all of which don't seem to have any issue connecting to the internet.

I can connect fine at home.When I get to school, my laptop picks up the internet - there is internet connection/wireless. But I cannot access the internet after I open the web browser. As a school policy, as soon as the browser is open, it is directed automatically to a "Web Authentication" page. But my laptop does not allow it to connect to that page.
I asked the IT technician at school and he said that there is a problem with the DNS connecting automatically. He changed the settings to do so, but when he opens the network protocol again, the DNS is changed back to a preferred DNS number and it will not allow me to automatically pick up the DNS when I am at school. (Once again, it works fine at home).

'm not seeing any drivers under Vista for the network card. Is there any other way to diagnose this? Remember, I can't connect to the internet on the problem machine. I've heard that XP drivers are not compatible w/ Windows 8...although I've heard mention of Comparability Mode.

I recently needed a new router from my internet provider. They came to my home and set up Westell 7500 modem router. My home computer brings up internet with no problems or delays. Unfortunately, my wireless laptop won't recognize any network.I plugged it in using the ethernet cord directly to laptop and modem and still no internet. I'm frustrated, I use my laptop all the time and without the internet it's worthless.

I'am running Win7 64-bit and i have Belkin USB wireless adapter( Belkin surf N150) When i first bought the adapter it didnt connect to internet, so i though it is not working and i got it replaced. I got the same problem with the second one as well, and then i have changed the wireless mode on the device manager from: IEEE 802.11b/g/n to: IEEE 802.11b and eventually i have connected to internet without any errors, but in this mode the internet is unbelievably slow which is very slow when compared to another wireless mode where i have changed it from. So my question is why i can't connect to internet IEEE 802.11b/g/n in this mode? The weird thing is that some times it connects to internet with no error and dissconnects again in a short while. Also when the windows tries to repair it, i get this report:

When they came over two days ago, we received a new modem, RCA DHG535-2. The issue we are experiencing is that the modem is not connecting to our rt n-16 ASUS wireless router. The modem works fine without the router but we need it for school work. The troubleshooter says "DNS is not available".A few things i tried was to unplug everything and reconnect them back from the modem to the computer.It usually works when i had trouble in the past but it seems nothing is working.

Since its a wireless modem it is not connected to my PC through wire. i have a Data card USB which is plugged in my PC. The wireless modem senses this Data card and my internet was working normally. I was wondering if I purchased a 1Gbit switch and connected all my devices directly into that, then connected it into the cable modem, would the PC communicate with the NAS directly via the switch or would it go through the cable modem?

They were on the phone with tech support from their service provider and "had them reset the modem." This is basically all I could get as they are not very tech oriented.
From what I gathered: The modem and the router are not communicating with each other. The modem is a Motorola ADSL single port Ethernet modem, and the router is a Netgear Rangemax wireless router WPN824 v3 with the modem connected via the uplink port on the router. Whenever the ethernet cable to the PC is plugged directly into the modem, there is a connection. I exhausted my entire networking knowledge trying to figure out what could be causing this.

Enet, power, ready, receiving and sync all appear to be working properly. Have rebooted both modem and computer countless times, replaced Ethernet card (DFE-530TX+(Rev f), checked cables, all appear normal.
