SB6121 - New Modem Not Connecting To Internet
Oct 1, 2011
I have a Windows 7 computer with Comcast HSI. It's a very fast computer, but the modem was really outdated. So was the router. So, we got a brand new Cisco N+ Router and a Motorola SURFboard SB6121 modem with DOCSIS 3.0 and IPv6. However, when plugged in, the new modem will not consistenly connect to the internet. We called Comcast and they tried to send an activation code to the modem with it connected to the computer directly, but it was intermittently going online, then offline, then back online, then offline. We exchanged the modem for an identical one, but it's doing the same thing, so the modem can't be at fault here. Comcast tried to tell us that something was wrong with our coaxial cable, but our old modem - a Motorola SURFboard 4100 running DOCSIS 1.1 - was working just fine with the same cable. Another technological "improvement" has failed me.

I have a 192.168.1.xxx network connected to Verizon FIOS via Actiontec MOCA / router. I also have a 192.168.15.xxx network connected to Comcast via Motorola VT2442 router (used for Vonage) and a Motorola SB6121 cable modem.
Each network has it's own gigabit switch connected to each router. The two networks are physically separated but switches and routers are physically side by side.
What is the best configuration to allow devices on 192.168.1.xxx network to communicate with devices on the 192.168.15.xxx network (share printers, NAS, etc), but still have each network served by it's respective ISP, and each device still get it's dhcp, dns, gateway, etc from each respective router?

My cable provider has installed a separate RCA DHG536 modem for my VoIP phone service alongside my SB5120 modem, and charges me $7 a month modem rental. I am upgrading the SB5120 to a DOC 3.0 modem and wonder if I can abandon the DHG536 modem?

Trying to connect one computer to the internet using a USB Verizon Pantech modem and at the same time connect to printer wirelessly through a Linksys router. We are able to connect to one or the other and can print when connected to the home network or we can surf when connected to the Pantech. We can connect to both networks at the same time, but when we do we can neither print or surf.. It cannot find the printer and does not access the internet at all. Is it possible to do this without buying additional hardware

I am connecting to internet via motorola modem which gives me approx 6 Mbps download speed when I test it with both speedtest.net and speakeasy.net. Any device that I use connected wirelessly to my Belkin N300 router only acheives about 1.3 MBps of download speed. Is this just the way it is or could I have a router configuration issue or something else?

Recently changed modems because of ongoing issues with Mediacom's loaner. I now have a Motorolla SB6121 and use an Airport Extreme router. I've used the Dell in the passed with the apple router, and several different modems and all was fine... but for some reason this hookup is not working for my Dell Studio. It sees the network, but will not connect to it. I did nothing different other than plug everything in. No other computer has an issue with this connection - only the Dell.

My Motorola SB6121 DOCSIS 3 modem is connected to a Medialink n-band router. Sometime in the morning (usually between 7am and 9am, the router loses the ability to see the modem. I can access the router's control panel, and I see 0.0.0.0 for WAN IP, Subnet Mask, and Gateway. Primary and Secondary DNS server are both blank. Connection Mode is Dynamic IP.I lose the ability to access the modem's control panel directly (192.168.100.1), even though the PC I use is hardwired to the router. So, I unplug the modem, unplug the router, wait, plug in the modem, plug in the router, and everything works again.I've had more than twelve service calls. Every Charter tech looks at the line, puts in boosters, takes out boosters, replaces splitters, and seems to only look at signal. I've BEGGED Charter to let me speak to an engineer, because my suspicion is that it's something to do with the DHCP server.
I did, by the way, replace EVERYTHING.I have had 5 different modems...same problem. I have had 5 different routers...same problem, including a modem/router combo.I've tried different brands, too.I've disconnected all wifi devices from the router, and rebuilt my PC's operating system. I've even unplugged the refrigerator, because one Charter tech claimed it was "upstream noise."I've been online only a few times when the system actually goes down. What I notice in the router logs is this: [code] So at 9:34, no ranging response - T3 timeout, followed by Unicast Ranging Received Abort Response;
then the Cable Modem Reboot due to T4 timeout, and the system time goes to 1/1/1970 at midnight. No ToD.
The last piece of information: Charter installed a second modem as a "test." That was originally in the same room. A month ago they did another line from the box directly to the test modem to skip the splitter on the house. That modem shows the same problems, EXCEPT -- not perfectly in sync. I might see the same error, but the time will be a few minutes and seconds off. And sometimes I'll see the errors, but the modem won't go down.Sometimes the first modem goes down, sometimes the second. I'm accustomed to a router "healing" itself when the modem goes down.It might be off for a bit, but then will re-establish. This Medialink doesn't do that. It forces a physical restart every day. There are other outages too, and all I get from Charter is "the signal strength is good."

Swapping cable modem SB5101 that has been working for years for newer one SB6121. F5D8235-4 v2000 router has been working with SB5101 for years. When I connect using same cable/etc. Router cannot get DNS/IP from ISP (Comcast). Cable modem works directly connected to my laptop. Switched back to SB5101 and works again flawlessly. FW on router is 2.01.07. Had comcast tech support as well as comcast tech onsite- no resolution. I did activate new modem thru ISP (even with them here doing it).

Two days ago we received our new phone land line from Mediacom. We already had internet service from them so we decided to get a phone line. When they came over two days ago, we received a new modem, RCA DHG535-2. The issue we are experiencing is that the modem is not connecting to our rt n-16 ASUS wireless router. The modem works fine without the router but we need it for school work. The troubleshooter says "DNS is not available".A few things i tried was to unplug everything and reconnect them back from the modem to the computer. It usually works when i had trouble in the past but it seems nothing is working.

I have a wireless modem. Its main connections are power, and phone line. Since its a wireless modem it is not connected to my PC through wire. i have a Data card USB which is plugged in my PC. The wireless modem senses this Data card and my internet was working normally. I live in New-Zealand and I was having a Telstra Clear connection with their modem and Data card. Since it was acquired by Telecom, the internet provider had given me this new wireless modem but the Data card remains the same. Now this new wireless modem is not connecting. But the laptops are getting connected through WiFi. Since my PC has no WiFi, it uses this data card. My PC is not getting connected to the internet. I tried plugging in the USB Data card in and out, updating the drivers and stuff.I want my PC to get connected to the internet.

The network card in my PC supports 1Gbit ethernet, my 2TB NAS also supports 1Gbit ethernet, however both of these are currently run through a 100Mbit cable modem/router thus reducing the connection speed. I was wondering if I purchased a 1Gbit switch and connected all my devices directly into that, then connected it into the cable modem, would the PC communicate with the NAS directly via the switch or would it go through the cable modem?

My aunt's connection was working fine until the other night. Apparently a storm we had knocked out their power and the next day they could not get on the internet. They were on the phone with tech support from their service provider and "had them reset the modem." This is basically all I could get as they are not very tech oriented.
From what I gathered: The modem and the router are not communicating with each other. The modem is a Motorola ADSL single port Ethernet modem, and the router is a Netgear Rangemax wireless router WPN824 v3 with the modem connected via the uplink port on the router. Whenever the ethernet cable to the PC is plugged directly into the modem, there is a connection. I exhausted my entire networking knowledge trying to figure out what could be causing this.

Currently I have 2 different modem running in my working area which is modem A and modem B. Whenever user from Modem A(192.168.0.1) or Modem B(192.168.0.10) would like to print or scan something using the shared printer, I need to manually plug the cable into either Modem A or Modem B depends on the network the user are currently using. How I do previously is only set DHCP on Modem A and disable DHCP for modem B so that Modem B will share DHCP assigned by Modem A. Both modems connect to the same Switch with the printer cable so both network user can use it together. But the problem now is I have to enable DHCP for both modems and causing the previously method can't be use anymore. So is there any other way that I can link both Modem A and Modem B with each assign different DHCP to link with 1

What I learned was it was bad to connect directly to the modem because you are left open to the internet. Currently my friend just got the internet and I told them to buy a router but they did not, and just have it directly connected to the modem. Is this fine, because they only have one computer, and it works fine for now, but wouldn't this be prone for attack?

I've been trying to connect my laptop directly to my Arris modem with an ethernet cable to get on the internet, but for some reason every time I do I have "limited access" and can't get on the internet. I can only seem to get my laptop on the internet while the wireless router is connected to the modem and then either connecting wirelessly or by connecting my laptop to the wireless router with an ethernet cable.I want to connect to the internet without my wireless router, because someone was hacking our router and was apparently doing illegal downloads. We got a cease and desist letter that said our internet will be terminated if it happens again, so I want to connect to the internet without any wireless connections being set up.

But when I connect modem with wan port on the router and router with my PC I get no internet access. The network shows as unidentified network and win7 troubleshooter says: Default gateway not available. Connecting them two devices seems pretty simple and I dont think I am doing anything wrong so what could be the problem?

I'm sure that the modem/router is bridged which I think it means that it is sent to pass through the port number requests. What I did was go into my Linksys router, setup the port I want to forward to my 3389 (RDP port on the specific machine). Let's say port 45000. In the past, before Windstream took over and I had DSL with a local Telco, I would just enter my IP address and port number and I was in to the machine. Example: 171.234.54.191:45000 That would be the IP address of my modem (which just passed though the requests) to the router. Now when I do the same thing I just get an error message that looks like this: It seems that the modem/router is not passing though the request to the router. This is why I didn't want their new router/modem which the HAVE to charge $120 for worse quality machine than what I already had.
