I am trying to get a L2TP/IPSEC VPN going on one of my servers behind the DIR655 router I have used Port Forwarding and Virtual Server and neithere seem to allow these ports to be open in either situation a port scan shows the ports closed..My ISP (Comcast) does not block these ports?
View 14 RepliesI have added an ASA 5510 to my network between the Internet and a Windows 2008R2 server running ForeFront TMG. Before the ASA was added, vpn clients using Microsoft Windows 7 vpn client using L2TP/IPsec connected to our vpn. After ASA was added, clients can no longer connect. I would like to know how to configure the ASA to forward the vpn requests to the ForeFront TMG server for authentication and access to internal network resources. Mail is forwarded appropriately through the ASA to internal mail server and Internet access for LAN users works just fine.
Topology:
ASA 5510 (outside interface is ISP IP address, inside interface is 192.168.1.1)................Forefront TMG (outside nic 192.168.1.2, inside nic is LAN gateway IP address).

I had my PPTP VPN working great at my old place, now that I moved I also upgraded my speed which means I got a different 2Wire. This 2Wire can only do DMZ mode and can't bridge. ( I tried everything, including the mdc page, no go). This works fine apart from blocking GRE somehow. I'm using a Mikrotik RB450G as my PPTP server. Does L2TP or IPSEC use the GRE protocol?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to setup a L2TP over IPSEC vpn connection on a PIX 501 that will use key sharing. In addition, I have a PPTP connection setup which allows connectivity. Two things, the L2TP vpn client I am using does not connect and times out. The second is that the PPTP client I use does connect, but cannot ping any resources on the network.

I have a stable l2tp/ipsec config that I have been using for many years with the Windows XP native VPN client and the iPhone VPN client.This configuration does not seem to work with the native Windows 7 VPN client. What has changed between XP and 7 on the native VPN client front? I'm running IOS 12.4(15)T5.

IPSEC phase 1 and 2 is ok, L2TP tunnel is also established, but on cloned virtual-access IPCP negotiation is not completed:

I think my VPDN configuration from Cisco side is not correct, but I cannot find configuration examples for this kind of solution.
I have a 5510 that i have configured for L2TP over IPSEC, not using AnyConnect. The first, and most prevelant being, VPN clients are unable to ping/access any of the hosts that are assigned a static NAT from the inside interface to the outside interface. I was able to circumvent this by adding another static NAT to the public interface for the incoming clients, but this caused intermittent connectivity issues with inside hosts. The second issue involves DNS. I have configured two DNS servers, both of which reside on the internal network and are in the split_tunnel ACL for VPN clients, but no clients are using this DNS. What is the workaround for using split tunneling AND internal DNS servers, if any?
i've had two different CCNA's look at this numerous times to no avail. A ping from a VPN client to any internal host works fine, unless it is one that is NAT'd. You can see in the config where i added the extra STATIC NAT to try and fix the issue. And this works perfectly across the tunnel but only intermittenly from the internal 10.1.4.x network. [code]
Co-worker just got a Blackberry Playbook tablet and, try as I might, we cannot get the darn thing to successfully set up a working IPSEC/L2TP vpn tunnel to our ASA 5510, which acts as a multi-purpose VPN concentrator. Any luck setting up L2TP/IPSEC VPN to ASA from Blackberry Playbook?

i am now trying to configure a Cisco Small Business Pro SRP 521w router for a branch office, i am trying to get the router to connect to a L2TP VPN server inside my datacenter, but seems to me like L2TP VPN client function is not supported inside the SRP 521w router.
Can Cisco implement L2TP VPN client into the firmware for the SRP 521w router in the future ?

We have ASA 5520 running 8.2(3) software and we're trying to make Remote Access VPN (l2tp/ipsec) working from Android. We succeeded in making IPSEC tunnel (ending "Phase 2 completed"), but we cannot make L2TP tunnel working.We're using RADIUS for L2TP authentication, but ASA doesn't even try to check credentials entered by use. The same set of credentials entered on Windows {XP, VISTA, 7, Mobile} works ok. Which debugging options should we turned on?

If i try to connect with a Windows 7 Client (NOT behind NAT) I get the Error 691.

We are attempting to setup RRAS on Windows 2008R2 using L2TP. Server is on the inside of the network at 10.10.10.20 our ASA is 10.10.10.1 its outside interface is 68.0.0.0.3/28.
I set a static NAT rule to allow all traffic pointed at 68.0.0.4 to be directed to 10.10.10.20 and have ACLs allowing the following.
esp, ah, udp/500, udp/4500, udp/1701
Mac Clients have no issues with but windows clients seem to hang and never connect. I know the ASA configuration is somehow to blame, if I attempt to connect to LAN IP (10.10.10.20) from withn the same network every thing works fine (making sure all the Windows Issues are covered).We have 2 other IPSEC tunnels established to teh ASA from our COLO and a Satalite office, not sure if this makes it any harder.
For the moment we run a Nortel VPN server at work and I have on my laptop the Nortel VPN client. While I could connect through when I had my Linksys E2000 connected up now I can't after I replaced it with the 5505. (running 8.4(1).) what I should do on my 5505 so I can allow the nortel client to connect out?

The router must support wireless (latest "n" standard is a plus) and must have gigabit links for LAN at least. I have been considering the following two routers but neither has an IPSec VPN server built in to the router OS:
ASUS RT-N66U
MikroTik RB2011UAS-2HnD-IN
As far as I can tell they both have PPTP server functionality and only IPSec pass-through. I would like a router that has the server ability built in to the OS so I won't have to run an additional system behind my network edge. I can also look into any small to medium size business routers, just as long as it supports a majority of the same features of the two routers I have listed for comparison.
I have a client that is getting disconnected quite frequently from our VPN Concentrator and in looking at the server I cna find no issues or cause for the disconnect. his ping to the concentrator never fails, but yet is disconnects. I have hundreds of remote VPN clients connecting to the same concentrator without issues.

I've installed both the anyconnect and ipsec VPN clients and successfully connected for remote VPN server access; however, the client shows no packets being returned. Thinking that I misconfigured, I reset to the factory default and began again. Now I only have the ipsec vpn configured and I have exactly the same symptoms. I followed the directions for configuring the ipsec vpn in Document 68795 and rechecked my configuration and I don't see what I've done wrong. Given that I can connect to the internet from the inside network, and I can connect to the VPN from outside the network (and the ASDM Monitor shows an active connection with nothing sent to the client) I have to believe it is either a route or an access rule preventing communication but I can't quite figure out where (and I've tried static routes back to the ISP and a wide variety of access rules before flushing everything to start over).

Recently, I set a ASA5505 with Ipsec VPN. And I try AAA authenticate with internal Windows 2008 server. As docuemnt I read, I configure from ASDM authentication with "NT Domain". And then point to internal DC, which is Windows 2008 server. While I test it, it shows error

the DHCP server is working when i assign ip address to the LAN network.
I am trying to follow the Fips guide for the WLC5508 and it wants to encrypt the connection to the Radius, either with PSK key wrap or IPsec. I have the options for Ipsec only as the Windoes NPS does not support Key wrap from what a previous user confirmed for me here on the board.. But then found another post that states that the 5508 does not support IPsec?

whith this output, debbuging seems very difficult. see attached my configuration on router 1841
On one side of IPsec tunnel is ASA 5505 and on other side of IPsec is C1841 sec K9. On ASA side I have optical link which is error free and on other side of IP sec I have wireless point-to-point link which sometimes have error on wireless part.
When error occurs on radio link, IPsec tunnel stop forwarding traffic. When I do show crypto isakmp sa on C1841 I see that IPsec is created, but traffic is not forwarding. Only clear crypto sa comand on C1841 works for me to rebuilt the tunnel.
Any similar issue with IPsec on error link between router and ASA and how to solve it?
