Dell :: XPS 420 Computer Not Working With Wireless

Apr 17, 2012

My network card went bad.  So I replaced the card with a Dynex Gigabit card and it seemed to work.  Used the computer that day but the next day the computer wouldn't power up.  So I checked the computer, the cabel, the plug, etc..  I pulled the new network card and the computer powered up just fine but no internet.  Well, I thought, must be gremlins and re-installed the network card.  Again, the computer wouldn't power up.  So I spoke to Dynex technical support and the guy I spoke to suggested that the card might be a bad card.  So I got a second Dynex card; replaced that and same thing; computer wouldn't power up.  If I fiddle with the card (pull and re-set) the computer starts but the computer won't start again after I turn it off.  So I said, matbe it's a "cheap" card and went to another computer store and got a D-Link Gigabit Desktop PCI Adapter, installed (along with new software after having removed the old Dynex software) and; same thing.

SO, I am at my wits end.  What is causing my Dell XPS 420 to behave like this.  I don't want to resort to Dell because their technical support costs are outrageous.

Wireless Not Working On Both XP And Vista Computer?

Jun 6, 2011

Though, the internet works fine when I plug it into the modem with a yellow cable. The other computers in the house work fine, so at first I thought it was perhaps a virus- like spyware or something. I've used Malwarebytes and no luck. I also thought it was a bit coincidental that it occured simultaneously on both computers and not on my parents or brothers'.I've also tried several other of the tricks I read up on the net..- Unclicking proxy.- Going into device manager and uninstalling/disabling wireless, then installing again- Unclicking Ip6.- system restore.I'm out of ideas and about to do a repair install on the xp computer. One last thing.. I did notice that when going into Network Map - Wireless Network Correction - it says the adapter is not connected?

Dell Inspiron 531 / Slow Wireless On One Computer

Jan 7, 2012

In the past few weeks, my desktop's wireless connection has become impossibly slow and laggy. It takes long times to load and routinely drops or stutters in its connection, which makes online gameplay very inefficient if not impossible. Prior to this, it was running fine.My wife's netbook and my work laptop both run normally and fine off the connection. The ping rates for those computer, tested at the exact same time as my desktop, are both good while my desktop's ping and jitter are horrible. So I have the feeling it is not really a networking issue, but more something with the wireless card or another issue with my desktop itself. My computer is a Dell Inspiron 531, probably about 3 years old, which as I mentioned ran fine with the wireless before. I am running Vista. In the past several months, the computer fan would kick in really hard and often at graphically intense moments though it doesn't do it any more (yes, it is still running at normal speed), so I'm not sure if the card itself was overheated and damaged? Since the others run fine?

Dell Computer Cannot Connect To Wireless Internet

Nov 4, 2012

So my old dell computer cannot connect to wireless internet, so it is connected to a Netgear internet bridge box. The other bridge box is in the basement where it is connect to the modem. I believe the location of the other box is almost directly below were my computer stand (and bridge box) used to be.I recently I moved it to different corner of my house that is about 15 feet further than the previous location. Now the wired internet speed is almost unbearable and inconsistent. The wireless speed is the same, but wired is really bad. I believe it is because the bridge boxes are further away from each other.I've tried unplugging and replugging, resetting, and etc.I would really like to know how I can fix this without moving the computer back since the furniture is in a really nice place and the computer would ruin the look.

Dell :: Dimension 9200 - How To Determine Whether Computer Has Wireless Connectivity

Jan 12, 2012

I am not very computer literate, so this will seem like a stupid question. How do I determine whether a computer has wireless connectivity?

I have a Dell Dimension 9200 running Windows Vista that I bought in 2007. Previously, I have connected it to the internet using an ethernet cable to my router, but this is no longer possible now that my new computer is using the ethernet connection. I want to establish a wireless connection between my older Dell Dimension 9200 and my router, but I don't know how to find out whether the computer is capable of wireless connectivity.

Dell :: 3460 Wireless Driver Doesn't Work After Restarting Computer / Not Installed

Mar 25, 2013

I have a Dell Vostro 3460 laptop with Windows 7, 64-bit.  My wireless driver is Dell Wireless 1704.802.11b/g/n.  I just got this computer in December, and it worked fine for a couple of months, then about a month ago, I started having these problems.

Whenever I turn off or put my computer to sleep and turn it back on, my wireless connection doesn't work.  The wireless indicator light on the front of the laptop is not on, and I push the FN+F2 button (which is supposed to turn on wireless), but it does nothing.  I checked under the device manager, and the wireless adapter is not there.

After the first time I ran the diagnostics, I reinstalled the driver.  The I restarted the computer, and the wireless was working.  However, that night I turned of the computer, and when I turned it back on the next morning, the wireless was not working again.Other things I have discovered that sometimes work as a temporary fix:

Sometimes, if I wait 5 or so minutes, the wireless indicator light will come on, and then I can restart my computer and connect to a network, but most of the time, I can wait for hours and it never comes on.If I start in computer into safe mode or the BIOS screen or diagnostic screen, sometimes the wireless will start working after I exit that mode and start into normal operating.  For example, one of the times that I ran the PSA diagnostics, the wireless started working afterwards, but stopped working again the next day.  Another time, I started the computer in safe mode with networking to see if that would work, and the wireless did not work while I was in safe mode, but then I restarted the computer in normal mode, and the wireless came on.

One time, I went under Device Manager and did "Scan for Hardware Changes."  After that, the wireless indicator light came on, and I restarted the computer and was able to connect to a network. However, all of these solutions were temporary, and some of these solutions only work one time but not again.I called Dell Support a couple of weeks ago, and they said that my antivirus program might be stopping the wireless driver from starting up.  I have Trend Micro, which came with the computer.

Dell :: Inspiron N4050 - Ethernet And Wireless Not Working

Jul 4, 2012

It's a Dell Inspiron N4050, running Windows 7 Home Basic, Service Pack 1. I haven't been able to connect to the internet via an ethernet cable nor wirelessly. The wireless indicator is on (duh!) and the ethernet cable works with a PC sitting next to the laptop. I have a ARRIS modem (yes, the third world) and it works fine wirelessly with other devices here such as phones and laptops. When I plug in the ethernet cable it tells me that it can't identify the network. I do see all the wireless connections but it's the same, unable to identify network. I've tired all sorts of things, having studied computer science myself I'm not a total beginner, but the OS is in Spanish so it's really hard to make sense of things. If I can't fix this soon I will be forced to reformat the computer. The pros of doing that is that I will get the OS in English and lose all the rubbish Dell pre-installs on their products. The setback is that I won't have the drivers installed for the NIC and other things (although they should be on the optical disc that came with the notebook). Perhaps the problem is the modem, maybe I need a driver for it. Somehow I don't think that is the case because I brough my own hard drive from my country of origin and I put it inside the PC and it connected instantly with the internet via the modem.

ipconfig:
IPv4: 169.254.113.41 (link-local address)
Subnet mask: 255.255.0.0
Default gateway: none

Dell :: Wireless 1395 Network Adapter - Not Working

Jan 23, 2010

I've been having problems with connecting wirelessly with my laptop (Inspiron 1525). Suddenly it's only able to connect to the local network, but I have no internet access. When I've tried to diagnose the problem, it's given me the option to reset the network adapter, but that hasn't solved the problem. The person who started this thread seems to have similar issues - [URL], however, unlike him my drivers aren't missing. I tried downloading the Dell driver which applies to my WLAN card and reinstalling it anyway, but that didn't work. When I go to device manager, the device status claims that the device is working properly. I also did a system restore but the situation remains unchanged...I still can't connect to my wireless!

My computer is running Vista and prior to this happening I hadn't reinstalled or tried to change any settings, it just seems to have happened spontaneously.

Dell :: Studio XPS 1647 / Wireless Not Working After HDD Installation?

Feb 18, 2013

My hard drive recently failed, and I installed a new hdd in my Studio XPS 1647.  Everything seems to be working like a charm... except the wireless.  I'm running Windows 7 64Bit, for your reference.   I went to the Dell driver site, and ignorant, originally downloaded everything that seemed to be relevant concerning the networking drivers.  When that didn't work, I came upon an article that gave the correct order of driver installations.  I re-installed in that order, albeit using the download manager.  No luck.  I've run Dell Diagnostics, and the only problem it sees is USB status (but USB is working great... I've printed and access my external hd without problem)... no problems showing with networking.  Under the device manager, Base System Device (2), Intel Centrino Advanced-N WiMax6250 and Network Controller all have (!) marks.  I actually un-installed all of those, and re-installed the network drives for a 3rd time.  Still no go.
