Home Network :: No Internet Through WRT54GL Router?

Mar 18, 2012

Recently we ordered a new Modem from Centurylink to replace an old one we have. (which ironically the old one's wireless is way better) Both modems work perfectly fine, and I've tried the same things with both to figure this out. I ran an ethernet to my gaming room, which is about 150 feet. When I connect my computer directly into the modem, my computer works fine. Initially, the PS3 worked, but when I switched back to the computer with the single Ethernet cable, I was getting an IP error. Every since then, the PS3 will not connect through Ethernet. (Wireless works, but its so far away the signal is weak)

So, I dug up my router, Linksys WRT54GL, plugged it into the ethernet that came from the Modem, (did all the steps in order multiple times), and no internet through wifi or ethernet on it. The lights and everything say there is ethernet and the WIFI/Ethernet are working, but there is no internet. All the wires are confirmed fine. I've tested them on other devices plugged directly into the modem. I tried the PS3 at the modem with 3 Ethernet cords as a test, It says there is an IP Address timeout error. Regardless of what I do, the PS3 won't connect via Ethernet. And without internet working on the Linksys router, Im getting about 15-25% signal from the Modem. (which is also wireless, if that has anything to do with the issue)

I need the router to do at the very least, WIFI. I really want Ethernet though so I don't lose much speed. (We are maxed out here at 1.5mb connection from Centurylink)

When it comes to computers, I'm advanced with them. When it comes to networking, I'm okay. I understand basic things, like accessing the router or modem through the browser. I can do the whole setup for WIFI. But when it comes to how the IP address, Static IP, etc., goes, im confused by them. So forgive me if I sound ignorant. I've looked for over a week on sites, and nothing is working. The router may be broken, im not sure. I bought it a few years ago and then didn't need it till recently. So its been sitting in a box.

All I know is, I have an ethernet from the modem to this room, the PS3 refuses to get an IP, and if I do it too much the PC gets an IP conflict. If I plug the Ethernet into the internet part of the router and do wireless or Ethernet, there is no internet coming out.

Home Network :: WRT54GL Router Range Extending?

Apr 13, 2012

I've been looking around for quite some time and can't find a complete answer. I have a Linksys WRT54GL router handling my home wireless network located in the living room (let's call it 'Zone A').I have an ethernet cable running from that router to the other end of the house (let's call this one 'Zone B'), where the wi-fi signal is very weak. a. What is the technically correct way to have a strong wi-fi signal at Zone B (with the same SSID, key-phrase, etc.)? b. If I take another WRT54GL router, set the same SSID and key-phrase, disable its DHCP and plug it to the ethernet cable in Zone B - will that do the trick? I've tried the Linksys range extender at a friend's house and it turned out to be a big flop.

Home Network :: Connecting AirPort Express To Linksys WRT54GL Router?

Jan 17, 2013

I have an AirPort Express set up as my router, and that works fine and is the main network that I use. I also have a Linksys WRT54GL that is wired to a printer.Currently, when I want to print from my computer, I have to manually connect to the Linksys network, which is a pain. I would like to wirelessly connect the Linksys to my main network, so I can print even when connected to my Airport Express.Does that mean that I have to configure the Linksys as an access point? A bridge? Something else? How do I do that?

Home Network :: Dir-655 / WRT54GL With Tomato As Repeater (WDS?)

Jun 14, 2011

I have a newer N Router (Dlink DIR-655) and the wireless signal coming off of it, just isn't strong enough. I was planning on using the WTF54GL to repeat the signal and inturn increase the coverage area. I've installed the latest version of Tomato on there (v1.28) and have gone through setting it up as a wireless client, wireless ethernet bridge (which works for picking up the wireless signal and then plugging something in via ethernet has internet), access point, access point + wds and just wds. None of which I can get to seem to properly repeat the wireless signal with internet connectivity. I have both routers set to G only channel 6, WPA Personal, Is this even possible? Or do I need a router that can run the tomato firmware on the main (host) router that is connected to the net?

Currently I'm living in a dorm. The house has wireless network. But WEP encryption is used to secure it. I know this method is not safe. Also since there are many people are living in the house i don't want my computers be connected to this network. What i want to do is to setup my own network. I bought a NetGear DGND3300 router. I setup a WPA2 protected wireless network. I can connect all my devices to this network but naturally this way i have no Internet access. Is there a way to use Internet access of the house's router but still keep my local traffic not seen by anybody else

Home Network :: Can't Access Router Or Internet

Nov 24, 2011

Orange sent me a replacement Netgear DNG1000 and from the moment I had it there was issues, if N mode was enabled and I had to set it to B/G only for it to have a stable connection, not a problem as I only use it for the internet. The range on it was roughly the same as the livebox. For a few weeks it worked fine until recently it started to go insane, on the main computer the wifi works most of the time with 80%-95% signal strength, and then every now and then it will suddenly lose communication with the router but act as if it was connected for 5-10 minutes, signal strength is still at about 90% yet I can't access the router or the internet. Wifi works fine at full speed on the stairs, drops to a few bytes per second on the landing and then increases back up to full speed in the room next to it. In the one bedroom the wifi works up until the door where it instantly drops from full speed to a few bytes a second. This drop off point is only a few cms, as in full speed at one place, move it back a few cm and it slows down loads, but I still get 4-5 bars on windows and -50 RSSI on inSSIDer, about 94% strength and a link quality which tends to fluctuate. What could be causing this, specifically the weird instant deadzones and randomly not responding.

Home Network :: Can't Get Usb Modem To Connect To The Internet With Router

Jul 16, 2012

I'm having trouble connecting my 02 dongle to the internet using my router. My router is a TP-LINK MR3420 and my 02 modem device is E1752. I checked to see if the modem is compatible and it says it is. I went through the configuration that was given to me with the router and I tried using you tube but nothing. Do i need to get a static I.P address off my Internet provider? If I plug my 02 usb dongle directly into my computer it works perfectly and I got the router to work using a ethernet cable and plugging it into the WAN port at the back of the router but I would prefer to let it connect through the 3g port. I get a connection at 40% and 100 bytes are sent and some are received but the connection drops. Is it a problem with the connection? I will upload a image.

WRT54GL Unable To Work From Home Without VPN From Disconnecting / Reconnecting

Sep 4, 2012

I've been otherwise very happy with my Linksys WRT54GL but have not been able to work from home without my work VPN from disconnecting/reconnecting multiple times throughout the day.

The IT guy said that a lot of people have issues with the older Linksys routers, and recommended I get something more modern. Assuming that is correct, what would be a good upgrade for me? I really don't want to spend too much time setting up the new router, but would love QoS if it comes out of the box. I have about 4 wired connections and about 6-8 wireless connections, on a 20MBit connection.

TP-Link wireless router which is connected to the primary router through its LAN port (not WAN) with its DHCP turned off. So I'm using this router ONLY to extend the network to another area. This is a 3G enabled router. Router IP: 192.168.1.2There are two different wireless SSIDs but basically only ONE network (all the PCs connected through any of the two routers are on the samesubnet and have same IP range i.e. 192.168.1.x). I want to use the 3G internet connection through the secondary router when the ADSL connection is down. Whenever the ADSL connection is down, I would just connect the 3G-USB to the secondary router, all the computers on the network should connect to the internet while skipping their route through the primary router WITHOUT CHANGING ANY SETTINGS. Is it possible? Do I need to modify the routing tables? Or is it

Home Network :: Can Ping Gateway But Not Router And Slow Internet

Feb 21, 2011

A while ago internet access was slowed right down for an hour or so. I have a phone line that comes into the house and then into gateway (10.0.0.2) then ethernet from that to linksys wifi router (192.168.1.1). So I did the following ping and repeated what you see below a few times to see that these results were broadly consistent, which was the case. One other person is connected to linksys via ethernet cord and they might have been on at the time. Questions are.... are these results consistent with contention caused by other user on the linksys? and why can I ping gateway but not the router? That makes no sense to me! I am not annoyed with the other person if he is hogging the network...I like him. I just wonder whats going on. When the internet works results from pinging are all as one would expect

Home Network :: Wireless Router Significantly Slowing Down Internet?

Sep 19, 2011

I have cable internet with a speed plan in the 10-15 mbps range. I have a wireless Belkin g router that is several years old. Connected to the router I have my cable modem as well as my PS3. I connect wirelessly from my PC to the internet, as my PC is in the other room (more on that later). When I'm streaming movies via WiFi to my TV, the connection is highly unstable. Some days, I will not experience any stuttering (or very minor stuttering), whereas other times the stuttering is almost unbearable. Last night, I had trouble streaming a DVD quality movie whenever it went above 2 mbps total bitrate. Other times, I can stream HD movies without much stuttering (except for very action packed scenes).Interestingly, I stream Netflix movies over my PS3 via a *wired* connection. Last night, I conducted a speed test on my PS3. First, I had the PS3 plugged into the wireless router. I achieved speeds around 2 - 4 mbps on average. I then plugged my PS3 directly into my modem and achieved speeds around 10 mbps! The boost was instantaneous. I should note that on my PC, I speed test regularly over the WiFi and achieve around 4-6 mbps on average (only once did I achieve 11 mbps).

Home Network :: Cannot Reach Internet With FIOS Router From Bridged RemotePC

Dec 20, 2012

I am trying to setup a remote PC over a wireless access Point/Bridge to our FIOS router. Pic of setup is shown below. Everything is connected, there are no errors or security warnings shown in the ActionTec MI424 router. The RemotePC IP shows up as an Active Ethernet client in the Router config app. Moreover, I can run the connectivity test from the router app to the RemotePC and it passes that, and I can PING from the RemotePC to the Router. Yet I cannot reach the Internet from a Browser on the RemotePC (192.168.1.75). I am using (2) DLINK DAP-1522 Access Point/Bridge units and they have worked as expected. I set the Router log to list any blocked IP traffic as well, and it does not show anything being blocked from the RemotePC (192.168.1.75). So why can't I reach the Internet from the RemotePC? Seems like a gateway problem or I need to make some config changes in the Router.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54GL Network Is Unreachable

Dec 14, 2012

I have used this WRT54gl for several years and it's performed flawlessly both wireless and wired. Recently I've extended the reach of my home network by adding a second WRT54g cabled to the network. I also added another PC in a nearby home with a wireless dongle attachment to the network. In setting all this up I've just noticed that the 'Traceroute' and 'Ping' functions in the original WRT54gl do not work. That is, when in the Administration, Diagnostics window and select either function I get a 'Network is unreachable' message instead of the ping/traceroute information.

All other functions on the network seem to work fine, ie..., I can ping the router from anywhere. Both wireless and ethernet connections work fine through it. The newer WRT54G addition to the lan is setup identical and the ping/ trace router work fine with it.Both routers have DHCP disabled. My modem handles it.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54GL Says No Internet Access

Dec 7, 2012

I tried setting up a home network with my above Linksys router and can't connect to the internet now. I have the ethernet cable from my DSL Modem hooked into the ethernet port on the back of the Router. In port one, I have a cable which attaches directly to my laptop as I was advised to use a cable for initial setup of my home wireless network. I was able to get into the router to set all the passphrases and wireless security settings, etc. My ISP is PPPoe and I have entered both the UserId and Password that my ISP provided. However, upon clicking on the wireless icon, my system states I am connected but the status screen shows "No internet access". I have no problem connecting to the Internet when the cable runs from my DSL modem into my computer, so it's something to do with the router blocking it now.

My ISP does not support my Linksys router, of course, and they tell me I need to contact the manufacturer telling me the router needs to be set up as a 'bridge" ??? There is no mention of anything like this in the manual and I do not know if there is a setting on the router that is somehow blocking my being able to get an internet connection. This is all still with cables attached. Again, I seem to be able to 'connect' to the wireless network but I now cannot get to the Internet thru the router...

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54GL Not Connecting To Internet

Nov 19, 2012

My WRT54GL Linksys modem has me stumped, it will not connect no matter what I try. it worked fine until just recently after a power outage; everything seems to be working perfectly fine hardware wise; the router shows a solid power led and network activity on WLAN, Ethernet, and Internet. I've tried soft resets and factory reset, clearing my caches, releasing/renewing IPCONFIG.

The peculiar part is that it is not letting me access the web config at 192.168.1.1 while connected with the modem, however if I plug the router directly to my PC's ethernet port I can access the config; Itried updating the firmware this way but it didn't solve the problem. I have no more ideas.

Below is the IPCONFIG information with the modem and router hooked up:

Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 Dropping Internet Connection In Home Network?

Apr 2, 2012

I have a home network with a Linksys E4200 connected to the ISP's fiber box. The problem is that when I'm connected to the Linksys, either wired or wireless, the connection to the internet will drop after what seems to be a random amount of time (normally anywhere from 2-10 minutes). I can restore the connection by doing any of these things:-reboot Linksys-disconnect and reconnect cable from router to fiber box-if on wireless connection, make changes to the router wifi settings, like change the wifi channel. The internal network stays up, and I can ping both the internal and external ip of the router, but not the fiber box. I have also had the same behavior with an Edimax Wifi AP and less frequently with a Edimax router (once every 1-2 days). I have done everything I can think of:-changed the wifi channels-changed the ip ranges, subnets, turned router DHCP off and back on-booted the fiber box-changed cables-updated all routers to the latest firmware, the network cards with latest drivers...and loads other things that I don't remember right now. For the wifi side of things, there are no other networks in range that could interfere. The same problem occurs on both my and wife's Win 7 laptops and on the iMac (latest OSX). Here's a fun detail: while the Linksys has lost its connection to the internet, I can still access the internet through the old Edimax router connected to the same fiber box, either wired or wireless.
