How To Connect To The Internet Using A USB Adapter

I have a usb adapter that i used to use with another computer to get internet access. now i dont have that computer but when i plug the usb adapter into my new computer it can get internet access. HOWEVER, the new computer loses connection a lot and is mighty slow sometimes. It is not that far away from the other computer. on different levels but close. I think i might have installed it wrong. what is the correct way to connect to the internet using a usb adapter to connect with a computer that gets internet connection directly? or how do i make this connection stronger/better?

I have an very old laptop that I wanted to make use of for guests. It is Windows ME but does not even have an ethernet port, it was used for only dial up. I thought I could make it wireless to my router using the Linksys Wireless USB adapter WUSB54GC USB Stick. It has installed with no problem and connects to the router with no problem but it will not connect to the internet. It just says internet cannot be found. I have googled and googled and googled and it seems a lot of people have had this problem but all the answers are not for Windows ME and a laptop that does not have wireless connections, so I am stuck.

I have a Ralink 802.11b/9 54 bps wireless USB adapter.I was able to install the drivers and get it so the computer sees the adapter and the adapter is able to see and connect to my wireless. It will not however connect to the internet. (I am using a HPpav a1113w with windows XP and I have a Dlink wireless router)

I've tried so many settings I cant even remember where i left off but one general question, troubleshoot to the next step with the wga54g; sometimes the connection shows 'acquring address' but never connects. I've fiddled with things so that i can get the GA to acquire an address but the internet comes through. Also the GA never shows up on the client table. So is the fact that i can get a network address a good thing or doesn't that necessarily mean i'm 'connected' to the network. Its frustrating to have the G light lite up yet no connection also at one point I did get the GA to show up in the client table when it was directly connected to the linksys 1200 but when i walked into the room and attached it to the PC, no dice I've turned off all firewalls temporarily and the 1200 is set on wpa/wp2 mixed. when i tried setting it just to wpa i got a warning then I lost my internet. I had to reinstall the 1200 again.

My Belkin wireless usb network adapter isn't connecting to the internet. The router and everything is fine as other computers in the house are working. It's just one desktop pc that isn't connecting.Our internet was running slower than it should and that was because we had too many wires and so in order to speed it up we decided to use a wireless connection instead of an ethernet cable.The problem seems to be that the adapter just isn't connecting. The little icon showing the status of the connection keeps going back and forth from no connection to attempting to connect.

I have a Windows 7 machine that is a client to an old SBS 2003 server. I don't use the server but once a month anymore because there is some old software that I need to keep on it. I also don't want to use the server for internet access anymore. I just use a wireless adapter on the client machine for internet connection. My problem is that I can either use my wireless adaptor for internet access or connect to my server. I can't do both at the same time (I get the "multiple networks red x") and no internet access.

So earlier today I purchased a new video card, a PNY Nvidia Gtx 560. After installing the drivers through the disc, I ended up getting he BSOD, and my PC just kept on restarting automatically. I fixed that problem, and found out that I should install the drivers for it through their website instead. So, after restarting my PC yet again, I tried using the Internet (Chrome) and found out that I have no Internet connection. Now, I am writing this on my iPad using the same router and modem that my PC is supposed to be using, but I keep on checking my WLAN adapter and it says that it is Not Connected. Now I have tried every forum, every post, EVERYTHING related to this problem and not a single thing fixes it. Also, when I do the ipconfig, everything says Media Disconnected and that's it. PS, I tried unplugging/plugging back in my modem and router PPS, Is it possible that when installing my new gcard and psu that I may have messed up with something internally?

I have a new PC with the Windows XP 64-bit OS. When I attempt to connect it to my home network, it doesn't see the network, and other computers can't see it. The network card driver is a 1394 Net Adapter. The driver appears to be working correctly, but it's not getting packets in or out. ok here it goes. I have a hp tx2000 laptop using vista with a alfa awuso36h usb adapter to connect to the internet. Ok heres the problem i was using this setup to connect to my neighbores wireless internet with no problems for about 2 weeks(yes they know and are fine with me using it). But within the past week (actually all of a sudden it wont work) my program that came with the adapter shows alot of networks with full signals but when i connect to any of them it shows connected but wont actually bring up the internet. When i click on i.e. It says i.e. Cannot display the webpage. And if it actually does take me to google it will disconnect for no reason and reconnect to a random network thats available. my neighbors connection i was using just all of a sudden quit working and if i try to connect to it , it says cannot connect to frontier87. Also the other networks that show up sometimes will say the settings saved on this computer for this network dont match the requirements of the network, but sometimes the same network will connect but wont actually bring up the internet. I guess i just want to know what has changed to make me not be able to use a network that worked fine for me last week.

I've a Dell studio 1555, windows home premium, 4 gb ram, 320gb hdd. Till yesterday everything was fine, all of a sudden my laptop stopped connecting to internet through wireless.I have tried it in safe mode. I have tried to delete the network also but now that left me with inputting the password everytime I want to connect. Its showing all the networks available, and it shows connected. but there is a triangle on the signal. When i disconnect and connect it again, then i get an error saying "windows cannot conenct to wireless network". When i click on the Trouble shoot problems, its showing below

But still it won't connect to the network. i've been searching in the internet for solution but couldn't find it. In a couple of tech forums people posted same problem for Dell studio 1555. But there is no solution. I think it has something to do with this model? I've been using it for past 3 years without many problems(except my mike is stuck with only yahoo messenger and won't work on skype/gtalk etc)I tried to download drivers from dell and install, but it gives error saying "This software package cannot be installed on your system. Setup will now exit."
I tried removing the drivers and then rebooted the system. The drivers were then automatically installed by the windows again. I went to Intel website and it downloaded a tool to my pc to check for old drivers and it found out my adapter was not having new drivers so I downloaded the drivers from there, installed them but its still the sameThis is my wireless adapter. have had a new HP G62-234DX laptop for about 4 months now and I'm now having problems connecting to the internet via ethernet. The lights do not come up when I plug it into the port and I have already tried to download the Ethernet driver from HP but it didn't seem to install properly, tells me it only works for Windows Vista which isn't true. I checked my device manager also and saw that I only have my wireless network adapter showing which works fine because I've been connecting wireless but I need a wired connection when I do not have wifi at my university. On device manager I chose 'show hidden devices' and I saw an unnecessary amount of "Microsoft 6to4 adapters" come up which does not seem right.

Whenever i boot my machine (sometime from hibernate mode), sometimes WiFi adapter refuses to connect to internet. if i reset WiFi adapter then also it refuses to connect to internet. the only solution i found is to restart entire OS.

I recently had to rebuild PC. All re-installed and happily working except wireless web access. I've re-installed wireless adaptor (BY Voyager 1055), but router will not issue an IP via DHCP to my PC. Can connect to same router using a laptop (picks up IP using DHCP). Have tried using static IP, connects, then loses connection after a few seconds.Both bits of kit are XP SP2, could it be a driver issue? My local telecom provider is unable to assist saying "it's something to do with your PC".

I just recently built my computer. I have a tp link 300 mb/s wireless adapter. When I plug the adapter in, windows doesn't detect it. It makes a sound when I put it in and take it out, but other then that, It wont detect the adapter. I cant connect to the internet on that computer. The adapter works on my other pc. My IBM T41 has an installed adapter. It says that it connects to the wireless networks I set up for it, but when I open web browsers, it doesn't really connect to the internet. I know the icon in the system tray for it is a computer monitor. The screen of the little monitor should blink if it works, and mine does not blink. I tried putting in 2 new adapters, but those failed to work.
3 years ago I had this same problem. I called my internet provider and someone was able to control my laptop from his computer. He opened some sort of settings screen that I had never seen before. I didn't even see how he got to it because he did it all so fast. After he changed a setting, my laptop was able to connect to the wireless internet. Since then, my internet provider has begun charging for this service so I've opted out of doing it again. I wonder if the man was using settings on the router website. If he was, what settings did he change that allowed my computer to connect?

I have been using a TP-Link wifi adapter for last two months, It worked flawlessly till a couple of days ago. It just so happened that i turned on my computer and even though the wifi connections were available, when trying to connect this message keeps showing up " Windows was unable to connect to UoC WiFi". I have tried everything from making a new wifi connection to changing usb-ports
FYI I use the same wifi connection on my netbook and android, and they are working fine, so it's definitely not a problem with the ISP.

I've been having a problem with my wifi for a month or so. I used to connect well to my wifi, but then one day my laptop just can't connect to it anymore. It says "windows was unable to connect to" or something similar to that.But what's strange is, I have an external wifi adapter (Tenda 802.11n, it looks like an USB flash drive). I use this adapter to connect to Wifi with the very same password, and it can connect perfectly. Signal strength is around the same level.I tried using windows troubleshooter, didn't work. I borrowed my friend's laptop (which is very modern, and have windows 7 - mine has windows XP), but the same problem exists: the laptop can't connect, but the adapter can.I also tried to export the wifi settings to an USB flash drive (using windows 7's function), and installed it on the laptops.
