Mar 2, 2012What I want to do is combine a sad 1.5M DSL connection and a long range WiFi signal into a single connection for a rural area home.I am looking for any effective solution (including boosting WiFi output signal beyond FFC suggested values). The WiFi long range antenna (DISH + gutted LNB) receives a full bar 40+ Mbps signal from 11 miles away. DSL is standard 1.5M over DSL Modem.

Apr 27, 2011setting up a simple internet plan for a place, but a LAN center needs crazy fast internet, faster than most large enterprise class offices that take up an entire floor or two. Otherwise there is too much lag in games like first person shooters. We are expecting to have 60 computers, plus people bringing their own gaming rigs from home and laptops as well, xbox, ps3 and other consoles, all accessing the internet at the same time to varying degrees, with no room for lag. There is a LAN center in california that has 200 or more computers and they pay for 9 t3 lines, which is thousands and thousands of dollars per month. Plus the initial equipment to set that up from what I can find on cdw is many thousands of dollars also. Something like 10,000 for a router with 4 expansion bays, and 4000-6000 dollars for a t3 expansion card, bringing the total to around 22-28,000 for equipment to do just 4 t3's. Plus the monthly cost. Since we don't need all of the traffic to be secured like a high end business class line like a t3, I was considering what it would be like, and how one would set up, having multiple cable internet lines coming in. They make cable wic cards for cisco routers. 4, 50meg cable lines would give us 200 down and 40 up but I don't know how to make that work without having multiple public ip's. I was thinking that if I did have multiple public ip's on the network I could just divide the computers up so that they are in groups, using all of the public ip addresses for gateways, so that the load is split pretty evenly, but still, there should be a more seamless way to do this, I just don't know what it is. At the rate for business cable internet, 4 lines would probably only cost around 700 dollars a month, which is much better than probably 5 grand a month for several t3 lines.

Sep 3, 2012I have been having a peculiar problem lately with my wireless set-up. I have a very simple and standard setup.My main desktop pc is connected to my TP Link TL-WR841ND wireless router and that is connected to my issued Time Warner cable modem. In my room I have a desktop pc with a TP Link TL-WN722N wireless adapter and my brother has a PlayStation 3 in his room.For months I have had flawless wireless internet connection between my desktops and PlayStation 3, but for the past few days I noticed that when the main desktop is on it prevents my adapter and PlayStation from making wireless connections to the router.
The only time my desktop with the adapter and PlayStation 3 is able to connect is only when the main desktop is turned off or physically disconnected from the router. Now, I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Ethernet driver, resetting both the modem and router, and setting everything up from square one to no avail. I know it has to be something simple but I'm hoping I won't have to format my main desktop PC.
When I log into the routers configuration page through internet explorer and check the Wireless Statistics page showing the currently connected wireless stations and packets, I have noticed that very few packets are being sent out, like the adapter and PlayStation 3 are being blocked by the desktop. I had Norton installed on it a week or two ago just to do a quick scan, then I uninstalled it.
Remote Desktop Setup - Local Connections Only?
Feb 2, 2011I have a couple WinXP Pros and Win7s connected to the same router wired and wirelessly. All of them have Remote Desktop enabled (via System settings) and have Windows Firewall exceptions setup. They all have AVG Anti Virus and no other firewalls installed. They all also have static ips assigned.Windows file sharing is working fine between all of them. VNC also works with no problems.But for some reason, I could not get Windows Remote Desktop to work between any of themAnother weird thing that may or may not be related is that they can't ping other computers on the same network.This leads me to believe that this might be a networking issue.I have a DLink router (can't remember model) with a Tomato Firmware.I do not have port forwarding setup for Remote Desktop because I think (although I may be wrong) that they are only used for connecting from the internet, which I don't need. I only want local connections right now.

My desktop has XP and only shows one adapter..I believe one of the adapters in the Acer net book is wireless ( being a new machine ) and the desktop is an older pc with a wired adapter. Just FYI I do plan to have a second WAN on Internet1 (DSL) once I get this next step working and want that to be the dafault provider, hence the use of Internet2 for this first connection.I already have a WRVS4400N installed that has a whole network on it that will be independant to the new the network and am trying to connect the WRVS4400N to my RV016. It is currently plugged into port 8 of the RV016 and the port is currently set to VLAN2.I know just enough to be a danger to myself here. :-) The RV016 is using the default IP of 192.168.1.1 while the WRVS4400N uses 192.168.10.1.I do know that "Typically, a Cisco RV0xx Series router is used as an access router, with a single LAN subnet. By default, the firewall is pre-configured to deny LAN access if the source IP address is on a different subnet than the router’s LAN IP address. However, you can enable multiple subnets to allow this router to work as an edge device that provides Internet connectivity to different subnets in your LAN."Hence I have added added the 192.168.10.1 subnet with mask 255.255.255.0 (to the RV016) and have tried switching the WRVS4400N from Gateway mode to Router mode. The RV016 can see it but nothing on the WRVS4400N network has any internet access, while computers on RV016 do. I assume this is because of the firewall blocking the traffic.

What I want is for the above static translation only to occur for a particular destination subnet.To accomplish this I have tried:

But this does not appear to work. Instead it seems to render the host 192.168.1.5 unable to progress through the NAT, whether the destination subnet is 192.168.10.0/24 or not, and I can't work out what I'm doing wrong.

1. Lease line = 2 mbps ( it is terminated over cisco 1841 router); For internet-access purpose
2. DSL = 1 mbps; For internet-access purpose
Our cisco 1841 router have only two fastethernet port, first for WAN Port where 2 mbps lease line terminated , second for LAN which is connected to Cisco switch and 1 mbps adsl line running seperatly which is not part of cisco 1841 router. i am planning to buy HWIC card for extra wan port on existing router where i will terminate 1 mbps adsl line or may be other provider lease line.I want to merge or aggregate both WAN link, My concern is to merge both line (2+1) and get single one (Just like as Etherchannel thing) , get 3mbps for LAN for internet access.

I have a network storage unit plugged into router by an ethernet cable. Any of the computers cannot reach that storage unit or ping it. I guess my router isolates LAN network from WLAN network. Jul 3, 2012I was simply surfing the net and installed a program. I then deleted the program and simultaneously i was unable to connect to the internet using wifi. Connecting to the internet is not a problem with the Ethernet cable plugged in. I have checked everything i can with the router and the wifi is still active. When i try to connect to the wifi, using the symbol on the taskbar, it tells me that there are no connections available.I also tried using my iphone personal hotspot and that was also undetectable.When i go into the device manager, the only icon that is flagged is the, network controller. Aug 7, 2011I have a dual boot computer - Vista Home Premium and Windows 7 Home Premium. When booted into Vista I can map my Network and connect to the Internet, a network printer (ethernet) and a second Windows XP computer. When I boot into Windows 7 I can still access the internet and my networked devices but I cannot map my network. Also, the network system icon (bottom right-hand screen) shows erroneously that no connections are available - but clearly they are! The attachments show the status of my Vista and Windows 7 connections. The only thing that appears to be odd is that my Windows 7 system is set to 'Public' and my Vist system is set to 'Home'. I have tried all manner of things to change Windows 7 to 'Home' but to no avail.
