Combine Two Connections Wifi And Lan
Mar 2, 2012
What I want to do is combine a sad 1.5M DSL connection and a long range WiFi signal into a single connection for a rural area home.I am looking for any effective solution (including boosting WiFi output signal beyond FFC suggested values). The WiFi long range antenna (DISH + gutted LNB) receives a full bar 40+ Mbps signal from 11 miles away. DSL is standard 1.5M over DSL Modem.

setting up a simple internet plan for a place, but a LAN center needs crazy fast internet, faster than most large enterprise class offices that take up an entire floor or two. Otherwise there is too much lag in games like first person shooters. We are expecting to have 60 computers, plus people bringing their own gaming rigs from home and laptops as well, xbox, ps3 and other consoles, all accessing the internet at the same time to varying degrees, with no room for lag. There is a LAN center in california that has 200 or more computers and they pay for 9 t3 lines, which is thousands and thousands of dollars per month. Plus the initial equipment to set that up from what I can find on cdw is many thousands of dollars also. Something like 10,000 for a router with 4 expansion bays, and 4000-6000 dollars for a t3 expansion card, bringing the total to around 22-28,000 for equipment to do just 4 t3's. Plus the monthly cost. Since we don't need all of the traffic to be secured like a high end business class line like a t3, I was considering what it would be like, and how one would set up, having multiple cable internet lines coming in. They make cable wic cards for cisco routers. 4, 50meg cable lines would give us 200 down and 40 up but I don't know how to make that work without having multiple public ip's. I was thinking that if I did have multiple public ip's on the network I could just divide the computers up so that they are in groups, using all of the public ip addresses for gateways, so that the load is split pretty evenly, but still, there should be a more seamless way to do this, I just don't know what it is. At the rate for business cable internet, 4 lines would probably only cost around 700 dollars a month, which is much better than probably 5 grand a month for several t3 lines.

I bought my Sony Vaio notebook about 2 years ago and have since had problems connecting to certain networks. The laptop will connect to the network but when i open my web broswer it doesn't let me access any web pages. Basically there's no internet connection even though im getting a full strength wifi connection.
This problem only happens in certain locations. My parents house its fine (using a sky router), my old house in London fine (sky router again), my friends house (doesn't work), my new house (doesn't work - BT router), on the train (no again)
Its very frustrating, although it was manageable before as it worked in both my houses. However now it doesn't work in my new house its pretty much pointless me having the internet.

When I connect 2 laptops to my router, why does the speed/connection get split? I would understand that if the speed was maxed out or something but it's a lame 500 kb/s connection. Do all wify routers behave this way? It's kind of annoying since there's a trafic quota limit implemented and when someone downloads, the other one can't do s^&t? how to handle this?

I have been using a TP-Link wifi adapter for last two months, It worked flawlessly till a couple of days ago. It just so happened that i turned on my computer and even though the wifi connections were available, when trying to connect this message keeps showing up " Windows was unable to connect to UoC WiFi". I have tried everything from making a new wifi connection to changing usb-ports
FYI I use the same wifi connection on my netbook and android, and they are working fine, so it's definitely not a problem with the ISP.

I have recently been experiencing a problem. This started to occur after I had gotten new internet service and a new router. I now have comcast, and a new NetGear router. I also have a VOIP phone connected to the router call "AllVoi". Now, whenever I use this phone, all connections on WiFi go down as I am using it. While, when I am using any ethernet connections dirctly from the router, it works fine. It becomes a large problem when you are watching a video or something from a laptop WiFi connection.

setting up a single home network in my apartment that will be able to connect to and use 2 separate wifi internet connections to provide stability and reliable bandwidth for a home network.
Situation: I have recently moved into an apartment complex that has 2 separate wifi connections that are available to the residents free of charge. (yes i am authorized to use both) I do have the option of paying for and having my own personal DSL line installed but I would much rather use the free wifi and not have the monthly bill.
The Problem: My apartment is located far enough away from each of the routers (One wifi at each end of the building and I am in the middle) that my signal strength is poor most of the time and sometimes heavy traffic on one wifi requires that I disconnect and connect to the other. Wifi A is farther and has very low signal and low or no connectivity. Wifi B has good signal most of the time but gets very slow during peek usage times of the day.
I understand that I need one or more high gain antennas in order to receive adequate signals from either Wifi connection.
Between me and my son we have 2 laptop PCs, 1 Desktop PC, 1 network printer, 1 Xbox, 1 HDTV and my smartphone. I don't want to try to equip each device with its own high gain antenna and try to figure out which device should be connected to which Wifi depending on available signal and bandwidth. Rite now I do not have a Home network set up at all and we are only using 1 laptop and the Xbox and each is directly connected via wifi (usually to Wifi B).
If I could connect to either Wifi A or B with decent bandwidth and reliability and then be able to network or connect all my devices via wireless or wired to my own router/extender etc. I would be happy. However.. Given that I must share bandwidth with the other residents and at times one Wifi has heavy use while the other does not. I have been trying to research how to connect to both wifi signals for load balancing, reliability and hopefully greater bandwidth.

My DIR-655 drops WiFi connections every few days. All wired connections are fine. Rebooting the router fixes the problem at that time. Cable modem works perfectly fine. [code]
I'm sure I'm missing some devices, but that should give you the general mix of wired/wireless devices that I use. I'm single with visits from my son every other weekend, so network traffic is not that high at my house. I've had this router for a couple years now and didn't use to have this problem. I've been updating the firmware, and I suspect this problem happened after on one those updates. I just don't know which one. Also, I didn't use to have any neighbors with Wireless Routers (that I could detect), but recently there have been 2 who have gotten them. I was hoping this was a problem that D-Link was aware of, but that does not seem to be the case. I would hate to have to go out and buy a new router (not D-Link).

I'm going to combine 2 512 kbps ADSL line in my PC. i know that it would be much better to get a 1 MB ADSL connection...but the problem is where i live now there is not better speed than this! Well i have a PC with 2 LANs - 2 phone lines - 2 ADSL modems - as far as i learned from Google , by no means it is possible to combine them to have 1 MB data rate but it is possible for example IDM would works with one 512 and another program with another 512..!! And load balancing is the only solution for this which it needs a special routers ! it is somehow difficult for me to provide one ..!! so my question is :
1- Is there any other solution for combining this 2 lines?! I heard something about teaming.
2- Is it possible to use load balancing by software?
3- How about the efficiency and ping time?

When we got broadband through our cable provider (Comcast), we were sold a single user license even though we were explicitly connecting two computers.Upgrading to a multi-user subscription (for up to 5 connections) solved that.I'm currently trying to configure 4 computers to connect. I have noticed that if a configuration for one has WPA and another has WPA-2 they will bump. This may be true for differences in WEP-keys, TKIP setting, etc. If you do new configurations, the settings may revert each time to a default, which you may not notice.Keeping the network settings matched may work. Using a portable memory device to run a saved configuration on each machine can improve their synchronization.

I am using Windows 7 Home premium SP1 (x86). I can connect fine and after a (seemingly random) amount of time the connection will drop (at least according to windows). I can also easily reconnect without a problem, but it will not pick back up the connection automatically, which is a problem because I use programs that need to access the internet and Often leave large files to download while I'm sleeping or not home. So If I'm not sitting at my computer to manually reconnect, then whatever i'm trying to accomplish doesn't get done.I'm using the ALFA AWUS036H USB wifi adapter. I had previously been running windows XP and this same thing would happen (though, much less often) but when it happened in XP it would automatically reconnect in a few seconds. I downloaded the drivers from ALFA's website incase the ones on disk were not up to date, and I tried both of them (they have a "normal" and "power control driver" option) and the problem remains. Also, I've never used an external wifi adapter before so I'm not sure if its supposed to work this way, but there are 2 "signal strength meters" in the system tray the standard windows one that you can click on and see available networks or go to windows "network and sharing center" and then there is the ALFA one that you can click on and it takes you to the ALFA wireless LAN utility, where you can also get a list of available networks.According to windows there is a problem with the connection, however according to the ALFA wireless LAN utility, the connection is fine (green bars means good connection, red bars means no connection)When clicking on the Windows "signal strength indicator" in the system tray, it shows 1 of 2 different problems (notice the differences that I've highlighted with red boxes). No matter which one happens I can NOT access the internet. Despite the "problems" shown above, the ALFA wireless LAN utility shows that its still connected (while windows is showing a connection problem)To reconnect I switch to the "profile" tab (which is just a list of neworks that i've previously connected to) and double click on the network. In this case it will be Enotria Public.... the same one that (according to the ALFA wireless LAN utility) I'm already connected too After clicking on the network, the ALFA wireless LAN utility "signal indicator" in the system tray will briefly turn red (signaling NO connection) while it "reconnects". Then it will turn back to green, and Windows network manager/signal indicator (whatever you call it) will proceed to reconnect as well. After this happens, all is good and I'm reconnected and can access the internet.
As you can see in pics above the ALFA wireless LAN utility is always connected, and it never drops the connection but even so, the internet will not work when Windows drops the connection. However, When reconnecting I can access the internet BEFORE Windows reconnects. (I still have to reconnect as described above, but after I do so I can access the internet before windows FINISHES reconnecting) The tab shown in this picture was a web page that I loaded BEFORE Windows ever reconnected, and it is a page that I have NEVER viewed before, so its not just loading it from cache.

For a few weeks now, my router has been dropping WiFi connections, seemingly at random. When trying to watch BBC iPlayer is terrible, as it keeps dropping every 5 minutes.
Tonight my iPod Touch (iOS5) was connecting okay, while my son's iPod Touches (iOS3 and iOS4) would not. My MacBook Pro would not connect either.
The only to get things working again, is to turn the router off for a few minutes and turn it on again.
I have router wireless settings as follows:
Network Mode: mixed
Radio Band: Wide - 40MHz channel
Wide Channel: 9
Standard Channel: 7 - 2.442GHz
SSID: Disabled
Router Firmware Version:V2.00.20
My wired connection is running well:
Speed DownSpeed Up
15734.10 Kbps ( 15.4 Mbps )1012.05 Kbps ( 1 Mbps )

I'm out in the middle of nowhere and just set up a few days ago a WRT54G2 V1 wireless 4-port router a family member had laying around. I had no problem getting it working and running. About an hour ago I noticed I wasn't picking up the wireless with my cell phone and went to check it on my laptop, I had no wireless connections available. It wasn't my adapter or anything since I know there are no other connections out where I am. I went to reset the router and found it had taken issue with that. Once I powered everything back on the router stopped responding and became "stuck" in an annoying state. It doesn't respond to the reset button, unplugging and replugging, nothing. Whether the internet was plugged in or not it will not move past what it's doing now.

I just installed a new RV016, and have it up and running currently using just one WAN (cable) on the Internet2 port. Just FYI I do plan to have a second WAN on Internet1 (DSL) once I get this next step working and want that to be the dafault provider, hence the use of Internet2 for this first connection.I already have a WRVS4400N installed that has a whole network on it that will be independant to the new the network and am trying to connect the WRVS4400N to my RV016. It is currently plugged into port 8 of the RV016 and the port is currently set to VLAN2.I know just enough to be a danger to myself here. :-) The RV016 is using the default IP of 192.168.1.1 while the WRVS4400N uses 192.168.10.1.I do know that "Typically, a Cisco RV0xx Series router is used as an access router, with a single LAN subnet. By default, the firewall is pre-configured to deny LAN access if the source IP address is on a different subnet than the router’s LAN IP address. However, you can enable multiple subnets to allow this router to work as an edge device that provides Internet connectivity to different subnets in your LAN."Hence I have added added the 192.168.10.1 subnet with mask 255.255.255.0 (to the RV016) and have tried switching the WRVS4400N from Gateway mode to Router mode. The RV016 can see it but nothing on the WRVS4400N network has any internet access, while computers on RV016 do. I assume this is because of the firewall blocking the traffic.

I'm trying to combine dynamic and static NAT on a SR520. My dynamic NAT is specified with:ip nat inside source list 1 interface Dialer0 overload access-list 1 permit 192.168.0.0 0.0.7.255 In addition to this I want to perform static NAT for a couple of selected internal hosts. I can do this:ip nat inside source static 192.168.1.5 10.85.10.2 which works fine but means that the source address 192.168.1.5 is translated to 10.85.10.2 for all destination IPs. What I want is for the above static translation only to occur for a particular destination subnet. To accomplish this I have tried:
ip nat inside source static 192.168.1.5 10.85.10.2 route-map toOtherSite
route-map toOtherSite permit 10
match ip address 150
access-list 150 permit ip 192.168.1.0 0.0.0.255 192.168.10.0 0.0.0.255
But this does not appear to work. Instead it seems to render the host 192.168.1.5 unable to progress through the NAT, whether the destination subnet is 192.168.10.0/24 or not, and I can't work out what I'm doing wrong.

I am running an ASUS laptop with Windows 7. My wireless has been working fine, but my room is quite far from the router, so I bought a signal-booster USB aerial made by Realtek (REALTEK 11n USB Wireless LAN Driver and Utility). It came with a small software CD too which I installed, and it worked fine for two days and boosted my wireless signal. However (you knew it was coming, the story can't stay happy) soon the red light on the USB booster stopped blinking and it showed the red 'x' where my wifi connections are. I couldn't get it to re-establish a connection without doing a full system restore and re-installing the USB signal booster, which would then work again for a short amount of time (maybe a day, maybe an hour). And worse, now when the USB booster is unplugged from the computer my laptop will not return to recognising wireless connections like it did before I installed the USB signal booster. It simply does not find any connections - the only time it does is directly after I have re-installed the software from the small disc which came with the Realtek USB signal booster.
I have now uninstalled the Software and anything made by Realtek but still it is finding no connections. Now I would just like to find a way to get back to where I started when my computer was finding all wireless connections like normal... a connection with a weak signal is better than this nightmare of constantly restoring my computer just to get a brief connection
