How To Control Number Of Wireless Users
Apr 24, 2012
I have a question regarding the number of computers connecting to a single wireless router. I want my internet connection at home to be used only by my laptop. I have my connection secured by password and etc, but I was wondering if there is a setting I can use to control the number of computers connected to a wireless router?

I am considering deploying several of these for our church to provide internet access. When reading the manual, I found on the last few pages that the device only supports a max of 63 users at a time. Is that correct? If so, any way to add more ?

For our children, we use the parental control feature of the DIR-615 (RevD, FW4.11b15), which works excellently. I use the whitelist feature, so only trusted web sites can be accessed. Unfortunately the DIR-615 only has 10 entries in that list and I will soon need more. So I wonder if there is another D-Link router that offers a bigger list with maybe 50 or even 100 entries?

This is a feature that I have researched for by looking at ISRs G2 data sheets and cisco.com website. The number of users that can be supported or the recommended number of users per router chassis/model is not mentioned anywhere. However this is mentioned in the Cisco 880 ISR data sheet. What are the number of users that can be supported or the recommended number of users on Cisco 1900/2900/3900 ISRs?

I say the answer is ten. That means ten hosts can be behind the firewall and hit the internet. The eleventh doesn't get to go out. I'm being told by a coworker that the "10" in the part number refers to the number of IPsec VPN peers.
Who's right?
I say if you want an unlimited number of users on the inside to be able to get to the internet, you need the ASA5505-SEC-BUN-K9
Mfg. Part: ASA5505-SEC-BUN-K9
Mfg. Part: ASA5505-50-BUN-K9
Mfg. Part: ASA5505-BUN-K9
Cisco ASA 5505 10-User Bundle includes 8-port Fast Ethernet switch, 10 IPsec VPN peers, 2 Premium VPN peers, Triple Data Encryption Standard/Advanced Encryption Standard (3DES/AES) license ASA5505-BUN-K9

I have some tunnels which terminate to my home router. I'm allowing the other ends of the tunnels to use my voice setup. I need to prepend *67 to all called numbers which don't originate from my house. I don't want people calling my home number based on the caller-id number they see when someone across one of the tunnels calls.
So if 5008 calls 212-333-4444 I want it sent to my provider as *672123334444. If 5001 calls a number, I don't want it touched. Can I do this? I can use IOS or CUCM here.

I am currently at a standstill when it comes to our desired set up for the following:Originally we purchased an iPad app called Luminair, which works as a DMX board. The idea was to be able to control a set of light fixtures hard lined into a Linksys WRT54G router, which would then allow us to control the lights with the iPad and the Luminair App.After quite a long time and a lot of different settings, I've found myself at this point:We recently were able to connect and control our lights from DMX Workshop, an application running on a Windows 7 64bit connected directly to the fixture through a standard ethernet cord. Both the computer and fixture are set at a 2.x.x.x IP address and a 255.0.0.0 subnet. To allow the two systems to connect andw work with each other, the speed had to be throttled from 100Mb to 10Mb.
I've now tried to introduce the Linksys WRT54G router in between the computer and the fixture hard lined with ethernet cables. My hope is to establish a connection with this setup, and then swap the computer for the iPad.Is it possible to set up the Linksys to a 255.0.0.0 subnet? And do you think it needs to be at this subnet and a 2.x.x.x IP to allow it to work? Also, is it possible to throttle the speed in the router to 10Mb as well, because if it is trying to connect at 100mbps, I am confident it will not work.

I have a fairly simple WLC 2100 configured to control two APs. We had a power outage a few days ago, and though the WLC was on a surge protector, it did not come back up properly after the outage. The STATUS light sticks at amber and I can't get any console response. At this point I'm not sure what to do except replace the WLC, though I'm loathed to do that as our budget was just cut substantially for next year and we're trying to turn nickels into pennies.

I have a Toshiba Tablet PC that came with the configfree software. It worked fine for a while but then it started giving connectivity problems. I tryed to disable Configfree by all means possible to no avail. Then I decided to uninstall it successfully, but I still can't return the network connections control to windows. It seems like it is still under configfree. My guess is that some internal switch at the registry level is still saying that the wireless control is not windows.

My sister had Time Warner road runner cable hooked up today. They gave her a Ubee combo modem and router in one box. When she tries to connect, it does not show up on the list of wlan connections in taskbar. I went thru network settings to try and set up the Ubee and it pops up in a few seconds, then tells you to hit next button and then ask for a 4 to 8 digit pin number which it says is on the modem.

I have a situation where I have tenants connecting to my wireless network and paying towards the internet bill. I am able to control this by using MAC filtering, but I have just realised that this only works for wireless clients.
Is there a way to replicate this for the router's Lan ports? Or possibly even just disable Lan access. The router model is a D-link DSL-2750U.

Just installed the E3200 and use to have a WRT54G. Wanted the N Band.Noticed two major deficiencies.
1) this device does not have Internet Access Policy option and the Parental Control interface is unbelievably poor? There are very few options to work with in terms of time of day to turn on and off blocking access. (Half hour increments only, not 5 minutes increments that I was use to). The "FROM" Field has AM only and the "TO" filed has PM only. This means if you wish a device to have access pass Midnight, you can't, or if you wish to block beginning in the AM, you can't. Furthermore there are no day selections, just School Night and Weekend Night. What if you just want to block school Night. You can't "turn off" weekend. Is there a way to gett full Internet Access firmware into this device.
2) When using Parental Control the devices to restrict access are only displayed by default names. I have 8 devices on the LAN and half of them say Network Device. Any way to identify them by a device name or MAC ID?

I have several laptops at home that connect via wireless connection tot he DIR_655. Using the MAC address of those laptops, I want to prevent them from going to certain websites.Under 'Advanced" and "Website Filter", I addes several domain names (websudoku.com for example). I selected "DENY computersaccess to ONLY these sites". I then saved settings.I then went to "Access Control". I clicked on "Enable Access Control".I clicked on "Add Policy" to cdreate a new policy for one of the laptops. When I boot the laptop and go to one of the websites, it still allows me access. The URL/domain name is correct.

I would like to see the full range of 24 hours for setting parental controls on devices. As it stands now, I can only select a block of time that starts in the PM and ends in the AM. This isn't very useful if for instance I want to limit internet while my kids are home alone after school, from 3 PM to 5 PM, or say on the weekends to limit it from 7 AM to 5 PM. Just a suggestion that would make life a bit easier!
