View 1 Replies View RelatedWe'd like to work with Motorola MC3190 a/b/g handheld scanners in our warehouse so we need WiFi connectivity there. The warehouse has concrete walls and is divided into two parts - loading bay 18m x 42m (59ft x 138ft) and main warehouse building 44m x 42m (144ft x 138ft). The loading bay is just a simple hangar with gates mostly open, temperature could be very low there, down to -20C, the right thing would be to install an external AP there but still I want to get along with the signal from the inside.
Some very basic site survey with the Cisco 1242AG ap shows that there is -70db signal at the loading bay from warehouse AP. What do you think about mounting the antenna at the loading bay and connect it to the AP inside the warehouse? The actual ceiling height is 8m (26ft) but the steel beams are 6m (20ft) from the floor and that will be the mounting height of the AP's. (I think it's rather high though). Storage racks are made of metal and are up to 7m (23ft) high. Stored materials are mostly different types of fiberglass cabling, polyethylene, steel cabling, steel wires, metal barrels.
The environment is very dynamic and it's rather hard to predict the actual RF situation so I'm trying to determine the worst case scenario. So I'd like to use 2504 wireless controller with five 3502e AP's with ANT-2422DW dipole antennas mounted at the ceiling beams in the warehouse at 6m height. My thought was to set scanners to work in b/g band (there will be several laptops there too). There is a little diagram attached below.Still think it's too high, and doubt about the antennas. Are there better choices for such a setup? Maybe with wall mounted antennas?
I'm currently configuing the WRT54G2 to port forward to an FTP server we have on our network.
The issue I'm having is that the router is offering me the 192.168.40.* range, however the FTP server is in the 192.168.10.* range. The server works on the local network across several computers, however this issue I beleive is what is preventing me from having it accessed from outside the network.
Any options for getting it to offer me the 192.168.10.* IP range?
I have a Dell studio 15 with Windows 7 x64 and internal Bluetooth. I am trying to install Manhattan 2800 Bluetooth bookshelf speakers. They sometimes play but disconnect intermittently. When Bluetooth disconnects I have to completely shut down and start over. (I haven't been able to fix it with just Restart.) This might be related -- I also have a Kensington Bluetooth trackball mouse that has intermittent problems with connecting at start-up. When the mouse doesn't work at start-up, I can usually make it work by removing its batteries and putting them back.
Q1 - Can my internal Bluetooth devices be updated or replaced?
Q2 - Otherwise, how would a USB based Bluetooth adapter interact with my current internal Bluetooth?
It seems it's time to let my trusty but ancient CAT: Networking(Tomato Firmware)because it has problems downloading downloading torrent of 1.0 MB/S and plus.My friend recommended me the Asus RT-16 but it's too expensive for my taste. View 7 Replies View RelatedWe are replacing a DS3 Internet connection with a 100 Mbps fastE connection from a Tier 1 Provider. I currently have a Cisco 7204VXR with 512 Mb DRAM and 128 Mb of Flash and two 10/100 ports that is connected to the DS3. I also have a 3845 with 1 Gb of DRAM and 256 Mb of Flash with two 10/100/1000 ports available.
We are currently running BGP, below is the summary
BGP table version is 88880414, main routing table version 88880414
379041 network entries using 44347797 bytes of memory
379043 path entries using 19710236 bytes of memory(code)
So this problem seemed to come out of nowhere, I have no idea why it started. Basically, when I use my internet, eg: opening link, loading video or downloading randomly my speakers make a grinding noise and until the noise stops (can be 1-10 seconds) my internet drops (the internet icon on the bottom right shows it is still connected but nothing loads until the noise stops. Even then, the noise can drop in and out like 10 times in a minute and is constantly messing up the internet.
my speakers are Logitech (doubt that makes much difference as I doubt the problem is linked to them and my LAN card is some Ralink thing, nothing special. Here is a low volume recording of the noise, turn up your speakers to hear it well.
I just saw the AVC feature in WLC version 7.4.100.0 and wonder, if there is a possibility to select a AVC profile per user, based on it's RADIUS authentication via ACS.For example:
- A user in group teacher can access youtube on SSID A
- A user in group student can not access youtube on SSID A
A couple of days ago I noticed my download speed (from my own webserver) has slowed down. I checked my wireless connection and saw that the radiotype was now 802.11g instead of 802.11n, what is always has been. I looked at the Wireless configuration in the router's webbased config panel, but the only things listed there are "Disabled", "Mixed", "Wireless-G Only" and "Wireless-B Only". A scratched my head a bit, wondering wether or not I really bought an N router or just a G router. But IIRC I really bought an N router. It said so on the bill. Also, when I check the user manual, page 14 says I should be able to select "Wireless-N Only".
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am considering the RV180 as a wired router replacement to my current wireless and I can not find any user reviews, comments or ratings. I live in an area with a very poor wireless reception for our Sprint Cell phones (Still under contract) and I have a Sprint Airave which boosts the wireless signal for the cell phones. The Airave transmits on a 2.4Ghz band and it is stepping on my Internet wireless signal causing poor reception thought my 2-story house.
Due to this problem, I am considering installing a business class network with a router, PoE switch, and a strong Access Point. My house is pre-wired for with CAT5 wiring. I have looked at the EnGenuis EAP-350 Access Point (800Mw and 29dBm gain and PoE), The RV180 Gigabit Router, and the Cisco SD208P 8-port gigabit switch with 4 port PoE support for the Access Point. The switch will be located in a wall junction box so I need a switch with minimal ventilation requirements. Is the RV180 and SD208P the right choice to integrate in my network?
My experience with Linksys and Cisco products have been Great so I would like to stay with Cisco. I have looked at a competitors router (Netgear FVS318G-100) but the user reviews were very poor. I am not sure if I need a managed switch or not, as I will have one primary laptop running during the day and up to 3 other computes(2 laptops & 1 desktop), a wireless tablet (android), and a Xbox (wired connection) for the family (of course not all running at the same time).
A client I have just taken on wishes to provide internet data and VoIP for multiple tenants in their new office they move to in a few weeks.
they currently have a Cisco 2811 router with a 24 port Catalyst 2960 PoE managed switch serving just their staff and one tenant company who is plugged into a single port on the switch. I dont know what the tenant has the other side of that at this time.
when they move they currently will provide single port access points on the switch for each tenant, so the tenant can deal with their own network LAN. The client will provide phones to all the tenants using VoIP phones on a single subnet and hosted on an external PBX the phones all plug into the Catalyst and use the PoE. the WAN is a 20mbps fibre connection.
The client has 16 staff, the tenants are 3 companies with 3,6 and 9 staff. They may all increase or decrease in size to a total size of about 30 or 40 people.
I have a few questions
1. should I look at Vlan setup for this instead of the current basic routing setup or is that overkill since they only use one port access point per tenant as gateway.
2. can the cisco 2811 handle this or is it a bit old.
3. what router replacement would be recommended for this task given the above info especially if I went with Vlan solution.
4. any thoughts on the current switch's capability for this task.
5. managing bandwidth solutions? is there any router designed with this in mind. the ASA maybe or something like it with nice visual webgui management capabilities for monitoring and controlling bandwidth use of tenants?

was working fine with my new router DSL-2730U D-link router and using it's wireless connectivity with G/N mixed mode..and i noticed that the range is so low so i decided to switch to N-only mode and when i did that i couldn't connect at all!..the router uses N-150 btw.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have an AE3000 dual band wireless adapter using the Win 7 Pro OS. At work our routers all use the same SSID, but utilize different channels. In terms of signal strength, the strongest signal is usually, but not always, one of the channels on the 2.4GHZ band (usually 11). However, in terms of speed of connection and lack of overcrowding, the best signal is invariably one the channels on the 5GHZ band (usually 161). My AE3000 will inevitably connect to the strongest signal (channel 11) even though it only slightly stronger than the signal on channel 161 and furnishes a much slower connection than that obtainable on channel 161. Is there any way I can "force" the AE3000 to connect via channel 161 rather than channel 11?

Even before I did the latest firmware flash I couldn't select short GI under Advanced Wireless - it was simply greyed out even though WMM was enabled above it. Now after a factory reset and recreating all my settings I still can't select it.
The product literature for the AE1000 says that you can select which band to use. However there doesn't seem to be an option to do that. I have an E4200 and when I set it up, it assigned my 5GHz and 2.4GHz bands the same SSID. If I configure the AE1000 to connect to that SSID, it seems to connect to the 2.4GHz band. Do I have to change the SSID for 5GHz and initiate a connection to it manually?

In an enviroment with WCS and a WLC5508 with 40 AP's (WAPs are either 1262's and 1252's), I have noticed that the bulk of users are infact operating on 802.11g although most operating notebooks are running 802.11n capable NICs (including my own laptops NIC - but yet when I connect I connect at 54Mbps.). Only a small portion of registered clients are using 802.11n. All my WAPs have both radios enabled?My question is how does a client notebook select a "prefered" band of 802.11n. I know in some cases the wireless NICs themselves have an option to select the "Prefered Band", but there are many notebooks out there that dont have this option. What would make a client connect at 802.11n over 802.11g? Who makes that call ?

Everything is running version 7.0.230. My question is can I apply MAC address filtering on a select group of AP's to restrict access to a specific SSID broadcast on these AP's without affecting other AP's also connected to the same WiSM?

I m working with WISM s and WISM2;s, 1130 and 3602 ap;s. Cores are 6509-E's.
i m going to implement a Bonjour gateway (which is an Aerohive ap, no wifi enabled, its just a Bonjour gateway)
This ap is connected with a trunk port (to a 6509-E) and has the wifi client vlans on the trunk as allowed vlans. It also has an allowed vlan for AppleTV;s which will be wired devices.
The Aerohive gateway gets an ip address in every wifi subnet, so far so good.
I was thinking that if i enable multicast :
- globally on the wisms, with mcast-mcast distribution
- on the SVI's for the wifi client vlans
- on te SVI's of the vlans for cisco aps
- on the SVI for AppleTV
- SVI for wism management
- SVI for the Bonjour gateway
then do i still need vlan select? Maybe a stupid question, but i m not sure how to interpret some things in this document.
I have 2 computers running Slackware 13.37 and each has a T10/100 ethernet card/port. I want to create an ethernet network between them to pass text and possibly backup. I have given them 192.168.2.1 and 192.168.2.2. I want to be able to cut the connection at will. If I recall correctly there are 2 types of LANs one is NFS and NIS. Which would be the best for this purpose and where can I find a stepwise approach to setting it up?

If I select B/G/N-Mixed mode then when I go to save the change I get B/G/N-Mixed B/G/N-Mixed in red letters and it does not save. If I select N only then when I go to save it says in red letters N only N only.
It does not matter if I pick 20 only or 20/40. It does not matter if I enable or disable U-APSD. It does not matter if I use the LSB or USB side.
Firmware Version:1.0.3.10 :When I got the router it had an older firmware if I remember correctly, and it would let me change to n speed.

The three computers are Windows 7 64bit desktop, Windows 7 64bit laptop, Windows XP Professional 32bit desktop.
What I tried so far...
Right-click on folder I wanted to share
Click on Sharing Tab
Click on Advanced Sharing>Permissions>Add...>Locations
I only see the name of the local computer, I don't see the two other computers on the network. The window looks similar to this, how I can find the other computers in my network, in the locations window.
I have the following commands on my Cisco 3845 router running IOS version 12.2(24)T4:
ntp server 192.168.1.1 prefer
ntp server 192.168.1.2
ntp source loopback0
I see that the router is sending out NTP version 4; however, my NTP server is configured to accept only NTP version 3. Anything other than version 3 will be dropped.
How do I go about to configure NTP on the Cisco IOS router to send out only version 3 and not version 4?
