I've recently bought a laptop with Windows 7 and would like to be able to connect to my existing home network which comprises 2 desktop PCs connected via a Dlink wireless N router which is acting as a WAP to my Billion non-wireless router (which the two desktop PCs are connected). ie the two desktops are connected via wire to the Billion. The DLink is just there to provide wireless for my laptop (and Ipod)
The first day I setup the new laptop it seemed to recognise the C drive and G drive on my desktop (which I had set to 'share'). i was able to do file transfers.
However, the next day, and since then, the C and G drives don't show up on when I click 'network' on my Laptop's Win Explorer... They did reappear once after I refreshed the Win Explorer several times, but that trick didn't work again
Internet is working fine on all computers. Just would like to be able to share files across the 3 machines...
I've experimented on the laptop with setting as 'public', 'home' and 'work' but didn't have any luck.

If I hook up 2 desktop towers together will it give me more hd and ram space? I want to know this because my boyfriend says we can do this to add more space to the existing tower. I have an older computer that I am running World of Warcraft on and I don't think I can add the 2 expansions I need to it because of the hd and ram space it takes up. I have 15.1 gb of hd space left and a total of 1 gb of ram which it is using to run the 2 I have

Client who owns a school (small pre-school) has 3 desktops that she uses in the office and wants to be able to print to 3 different printers. So each desktop has the ability to print to each of the 3 printers. Her reason for 3 different printers are if one is out of ink I can print to another, or if one just isnt working I can print to another. Would I use a USB switch(assuming they connect via USB)

I have a Dell Optiplex 780 running Windows XP and a wireless router model 7500 from Verizon. I recently bought this desktop and want to use my old one so the kids can play games on it. However I can't connect to the internet with the old system. I tried running a USB cable from the wireless modem to the old system to no avail. I tried hooking up a wireless-G Broadband router by Linksys to the wireless router and that didn't work. Does there have to be some wifi hardware/software on these desktops? [code]

This is on my desktop. I have a wireless card to access the internet and I am trying to hook another desktop to the internet through my desktop.
1. Is this even possible? I know it is on laptops but what about desktops?
info: windows 7 x64 home premium
configuration, some may be obvious. the desktops are connected through Ethernet cord. The main rig has the wireless card already hooked to internet. Have turned on ICS sharing on the Ethernet connection on main rig, and nothing. There is no option for sharing on the wireless adapter. The second rig has no option to share the connection. The main rig has a static IP because of port forwarding (my gaming rig).

I have a WRT310N wireless router (Ver 1). In the house we've got 1 macbook, 2 laptops running windows vista, and 2 desktops running windows XP.The original problem is that both desktops will not connect wirelessly. All 3 laptops connect but neither desktop wants to connect. Most of the time neither desktop will even recognize the wireless network. On one of the desktops we bought and installed a linksys wireless-n pci adapter. It was installed using the software that came with it and the drivers were updated. It still does not recognize the network or connect (obviously).
This has led me to try to upgrade the firmware on the router. The firmware version it is currently running is 1.0.4 (Jan 3, 2008) and I have been trying to upgrade to 1.0.7. I downloaded the firmware update from the linksys website. I accessed the router via my browser and went to the "Firmware Upgrade" section under Administration. However, the upgrade freezes at 98% every time I try.
I have tried to upgrade the firmware wireless, wired, and wired without internet connectivity and nothing works. Fortunately stopping the upgrade after the freeze at 98% has not had any negative affects on the router as it still works perfectly on the 3 laptops. I even re-downloaded the firmware .bin file before the last attempt and still nothing. The fact that neither desktop will connect wirelessly is baffling, but I don't know what to make of the fact that the firmware update freezes at 98%. I've looked for the intermediary firmware updates to see if I could step my way up to the latest update, but I haven't been able to find them.

I lost all Internet connnecitivity on my Linksys e3000. After determining that my cable modem was connected and working correctly, I pulled the e3000 and put my old wrv54g router in place. Wireless worked, but all wired connections showed link but no other apparent connectivity. Neither of my desktops could get a DHCP lease.
At that point, I purchased and manually installed a new e4200 router. All worked fine. Both laptops connected via wireless and both desktops via my house LAN. Until this morning (Monday). Wireless is working just fine, but both wired computers show 100 Mbs connections on an unknown network with no DHCP. Checking status shows packets going out, but nothing coming in. Checking LAN status on the router shows that both ports are connected, but it does not appear to receive anything from either desktop. All was fine last night. Oh, the router is on 1.0.03 firmware.
I have tried about everything I can think of. Configurations both on the router and the desktops (one Windows XP, 64 bit and one Windows 7) and all seems fine. I have disabled and reenabled the network connectors, rebooted both the router and the computers, etc. Nothing seems to work.

I have a Linksys WRT120N with two desktops connected via wired connections. In the house, there are two students accessing the Internet through WiFi via the WRT120N.One of the laptops (on an Apple laptop) seems to lose its' connection from time to time. The other laptop (Lenovo) is located the furthest distance from the router and only gets two bars signal strength.Would my best option to improve the signal strength for the Lenovo laptop and hopefully, also increase reliability for the Apple laptop be to purchase a new router such as a Linksys E1500 with speed boost or would it be best to try a Linksys range extender (RE1000)?

I want to setup a DC++ HUB for sharing data within the university local network. We have addresses of the form 172.31.*.*. These addressed are accessible within the university bu non routable outside on the internet. My plan is to setup a local HUB for DC++ for sharing data within the university intranet. So even if internet is unavailable data can be exchanged through LAN. This HUB must not be accessable outsied the university network.how should I do this all..implementing network sharing other than DC++. My basic idea is that everybody can share their data and the data is searchable from one common interface( Web interface is better option, if possible). And data featching should prefferably be from many hosts, using multiple connections so that speed can be improved..

I have a home network running all Mac computers (though can run Windows VM if necessary) and a pair of USB printers. The wireless router and cable modem are in one room, but the printers are in another. I'd like to find the most practical way to add the printers to the local wireless network without sharing them from a computer. I've tried that for a while, but don't want to leave a laptop connected 24/7 just to enable wireless printing (rather defeats the purpose of a portable computer). I don't have any wired network lines in the home, and am not excited by the idea of running any cables.

I need to create a network bubble..means..Let say I have 4 machines having IP address 10.1.1.1,10.1.1.2, 10.1.1.3 and 10.1.1.4 (these are not actual IP's, using them just for explaining). These machines are connected to public network. At a given point in time, I need to isolate these machines from the public network in a way where - All these 4 machines can talk to each other using the assigned IP's. - These 4 machines cannot talk to any other nodes in the public network. no other machines outside these 4, will be able to ping these machines.

My desktop, which runs on Vista, is connected to the internet via a cable modem. I am trying to get my laptop, which runs on Windows 7, to connect to the same network without a router via the use of an Ad-Hoc network.
I have created the Ad-Hoc network on my desktop and have successfully connected to it through my laptop. The problem is that although I am connected to the Ad-Hoc network on the laptop I cant connect to the internet. It simply says Access Type: No Internet Access. I have internet sharing on and don't know what to do to successfully connect to the internet via the laptop. When I diagnose the connection it says "The network adapter does not have a valid IP configuration" I have both pcs set to "Obtain IPv6/v4 addresses automatically" and dont know what else to do.

I am trying to create a VPN on my Mac that I can access from my iPad in a remote location (work.) I have been using "iVPN" on the Mac to "distribute" the home Mac's Internet connection to the iPad. I have everything set up right and the VPN works fine and the iPad connects fine, just not when I am work, where I want it to work. The iPad tells me that it cannot connect to the VPN. I believe my work blocks VPN ports (1701, 1723 etc) I can do a google search from the iPad on the work WiFi so the connection is ok, but I believe those ports are blocked. If I connect the iPad to a restaurant's wifi for example, the VPN connects fine. What client can I use to create my own VPN at home where I can use a standard port like port 80 or something that is not blocked at work so that I can connect to the VPN from work?
