Jan 8, 2013I am trying to create a VPN on my Mac that I can access from my iPad in a remote location (work.) I have been using "iVPN" on the Mac to "distribute" the home Mac's Internet connection to the iPad. I have everything set up right and the VPN works fine and the iPad connects fine, just not when I am work, where I want it to work. The iPad tells me that it cannot connect to the VPN. I believe my work blocks VPN ports (1701, 1723 etc) I can do a google search from the iPad on the work WiFi so the connection is ok, but I believe those ports are blocked. If I connect the iPad to a restaurant's wifi for example, the VPN connects fine. What client can I use to create my own VPN at home where I can use a standard port like port 80 or something that is not blocked at work so that I can connect to the VPN from work?

I have a 30' by 60' sanctuary in my church an old audio mixer hooked up to key board, mics and speakers and one cordless mic. I am considering purchasing a Epson Powerlite 96W Projector and the optional wireless LAN module but wondered if there was a way to hook up a Epson EX7210 projector wireless as it does not accept the optional wireless LAN module. Also we currently have a great singer and no musicians so I am trying to find church presentation software that would include lyrics, background effects and music to accompany our singer.

The VM has a static IP of 10.211.55.5 and can obviously ping out to the rest of my lan but as of yet my router and other machines on the 10.10.10/24 subnet cannot reach the VM. I sort of presume this is a simple task of adding some kind of static route on my router and then all other machine will know how to get to the VM. So what do I need to do as I have about 40 or so customers already connected of whom I do not wish to suddenly halt their access due to my inexperienced attempts to create this route or new link(s)

Home Network :: Local Access Only On Vista Laptop?

I restored an old Vista laptop to out-of-the-box state to give to my Dad. This laptop had a wireless connection to the internet and network previously. After the restore, I can't get a connection to the internet, even though my router sees it and it has an ip address. It says Unidentified Network Local Access only, and it doesn't see any of the computers on the network. Sometimes the other computers see it but can't connect, sometimes, the other computers don't see it. I hate Vista.

All my other eight devices have an internet connection no problem, but I powered off the modem and router a couple of times with no change. I tried updating the Atheros to the latest driver on Toshiba's website for this model, but it doesn't seem to take. If I uninstall the old drivers, Windows rudely just immediately reinstalls them again. If I just update the driver, and pick the new file, the driver version remains the same as the previous driver. I'm banging my head on the wall with the driver

Sep 25, 2011I began having a problem with streaming 1080p content from my media server to a router, wired to a switch that serves a few devices in my home theater (including a HTPC, my Boxee Box). Every 15 seconds movies have to buffer. After a while, I narrowed it down to the switch, since wiring the Boxee Box straight to the router caused the movies to run perfectly.Logically, I thought the switch was the problem, since I really made no changes on my network/DD-WRTRouter other than running a Minecraft server (which shutting that down made no difference in network performance). I ordered a brand new gigabit switch, same problem. Pinging the BoxeeBox returns 0 packet loss whether it's connected to the switch or router, but movies still play perfectly fine when directly connected to the router. Different cables didn't work.
I thought maybe the other devices on that switch were causing some sort of conflict.changed the BoxeeBox's static IP just in-case, unplugged every other device from the switch so that only the BoxeeBox and Router were connected to the switch. It worked fine! Yay! Tried a different cable, still worked fine. Great, I thought, so the problem was never my switch... plugged the old switch back in, then the problem returned. Ugh. Changed back to my new switch (each time power cycling all of the network devices) and the problem persisted, even with the SAME EXACT setup I just had a few minutes previously that worked fine. Tearing my hair out at this point.Since that moment I still haven't been able to reproduce a perfect stream unless the BoxeeBox is directly connected to the router. This doesn't make ANY sense as I had this setup running perfectly fine since November 2010. I am COMPLETELY out of ideas other than running multiple ethernet wires to that drop or running all the other devices on wireless.

No matter what browser I use I usually dont get to any website. Most of the time it says access: local only, or local and internet, or limited connectivity. The wireless router and cable modem are in one room, but the printers are in another. I'd like to find the most practical way to add the printers to the local wireless network without sharing them from a computer. I've tried that for a while, but don't want to leave a laptop connected 24/7 just to enable wireless printing (rather defeats the purpose of a portable computer). I don't have any wired network lines in the home, and am not excited by the idea of running any cables.

However, the problem is, the exe file tries to connect to the local host ip address 127.0.0.1 and i cant change the ip since it's been coded.So, I'm wondering if i can use the device connection (which already has a different ip like 169....) as a local host connection. So whenever it tries to connect to the loopback 127... it automatically connects to the external device.

Apr 4, 2013i purchased vaio with win8. Under network icon, I can not see any other computers in the local network therefore not able to access shares unless i explicitly map the shares which is tedious.
On other computers running win7 and xp, each of them can see each other under network icon.However that is not the case with my laptop running 8. Actually i have seen once or twice all pc-s show up but most of the time, they dont appear.
I read somewhere that following service need to be checked to make sure they are running: upnp, ssdp in services. I checked those and they are all running.
I also enabled "turn on network discovery" under network and sharing->advanced sharing. setting. To make it more complicated there are private and public and all network setting. I enabled all items as follows:
1. Private Turn on network discovery is checked along with Turn on automatic setup of network connected devices Turn on file and printer sharing is selected Allow Windows to manage homegroup connections is selected.
2. Guest or public Turn on network discovery is selected Turn on file and printer sharing is selected.
With these settings I still dont see the local computers and their shares. Do I need to check anything else?

Apr 22, 2012i'm trying to setup a local DNS server to manage small office local-only domain names for our servers. i have the DNS working properly (resolving local machines and using the ISP dns if it can't). so i put the DNS server ip into the "Static DNS 1" field of the router settings. the other 2 static dns fields are empty.the problem is that the router is still using the ISP dns server as the primary and my local dns server as the secondary. i verify this in two places. first, if i go to the "status" tab, DNS 1 shows the ISP server while DNS 2 shows my local DNS server. secondly, if i connect to the wireless device with a linux-based machine, the /etc/resolv.conf file shows the nameserver ips in the same incorrect order.

The web server is working great; I can get to my web pages from outside of my home by going to http://MyIpAddress/Anyway, the problem is with the Windows Media Player plugin I'm using. I want to embed 6GB MPEG-2 videos into my web pages. I have some videos on my PC and I want to be able to watch them remotely by connecting into my web page. It works fine when I'm at home; other PCs can connect and play the videos no problem. The problem is when I'm at work. When I'm at work, I go to my web page (via my IP address in a web browser) and the Media Player plugin says "Connecting" for a minute, then it says Ready, but the video will not play. I tried using a smaller, AVI file (680 MB) instead to see if the problem was streaming such a large file, but the video still would not play.Do I need to foward more ports on my router so that Windows Media Player can connect back and get the information it needs?

It has to be coming from my neighbor who's bedroom is about 15 feet away from my router. Home Network :: Unable To Get Home Networking
Oct 16, 2011After trying most things and spending money like water, I still cannot get our home network to be adequate and I am out of options - Tried using two 100MBit/s Netgear routers "bouncing" signal to each other (Wireless Repeating Function). Not ideal as security is small and speed was slow (<10MBit/s) but at least it worked. However these routers had to get pensioned off when we put gigabit ethernet in the office - and the Netgear replacements (a) still have the security limitations with wireless repeating, (b) anyway see to do a worse job of repeating. Tried buying Netgear directional high-gain antennas and directing the signal point to point to a second router - didn't work at all. Tried Powerline (this was in 2008). It sort-of worked but was unreliable and dog slow. I think this is probably not worked by the fact that this building is OLD, most of the wiring is OLD, and anyway the electrical path would take the signal from the 4th floor, down some very old wiring to the ground floor, across a very old switchboard, and back up to the second floor... it's not quite the same as a modern house with modern wiring. Most recently tried using Netgear's Wireless Network Extender. Again, it sort of works, but it's NOT fast at all. In addition there are times when some of our computers using the extension segment of the network are unable to connect - they can still see 3-4 bars of signal, but they cannot get on the network. Appears to be an issue relating to gateway, or DNS, not sure. But I would say about 1 day in 3, when I come home, my wife tells me that the "internet is off".
