I don't like the wifi installed in my laptops.I am thinking about switching them to intel 6300 and maybe one in bigfoot 1102 or 1103. My home router beeing 3x3 compatible I should see improvement.
Anyway I am wondering if it works easily or if I have to install some antennas inside which would be a big mess.
I just received a new xps 15 yesterday. After some long hours of research, I found that I need a different wireless adapter to pick up my routers 5.0GHz signal. The wireless adapter in my XPS right now is an Intel Cetrino Wireless-N 1000. I was wondering if I ordered an Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300, if it would be compatible with my new laptop, and if so, the ease of switching the two adapters.

The two new floors these devices will be going on will be our first internal hospital entry into 802.11n which I force the clients to run in the 5ghz range for N. Previous to this, all of my cows are G clients and use a 2.2dbi rubber duck for 2.4ghz.
I will be using 1142 AP's, if not 3502 and no I have not performed a survey yet as the floor is still in early construction, but equipment is required to be ordered now. I can tell you that I will be surveying for a voice grade. I suppose my confusion comes from what is the best antenna (obvious open ended question) for this card, being it has two connectors for the 2x2. Again, typically I would use a 2.2 dbi rubber duck for either 2 GHz or dual band 2/5 GHz. Is dual rubber ducks at 6inch spacing (half wavelength met on 2.4 GHz fall back) suffecient or are there other factors involved with the N.
my Intel wireless card keeps losing the connection. Until a couple of weeks ago it would be fine for roughly the first 20 minutes then the connection would just completely drop out and the only way to get it back again is to go into the network and sharing centre, disable the network card and then reenable it. Most of the time this works, but again for only the first 20-30 minutes, then I have to do it again. Occasionally it works for for longer but that's a rare occasion.Now not only does it do this, but also, if I put my laptop into sleep, sometimes when I turn it back on again the card will not connect to the network and I have to do the same disable and enable process.[ODE]

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have just got my new xps 17 and opted for the 6230, It only gets to 20 meg download speed, I can insert my old usb N adaptor and get the full 50 meg. I was on the phone for 2 hours last night with Dell, they had remote access and tried lots of things to improve the problem.
Finally once they saw that my old usb adaptor was much faster, they said a technician would call me back today betweek 12pm and 1pm or 4.30pm.
Is there a way to boost a wifi signal to a non detachable antenna pci wireless card?so i can get better signal of free access point,i don't want to go and buy another card with a detachable antenna,which i know i can do alot more to boost with these type of cards.

All of a sudden his computer no longer shows that there is a wireless interface in the computer and he needs this computer for work. View 1 Replies View RelatedThe wireless on my laptop keeps dropping out. When I first got it it was fine, but after a while I started experiencing problems on every wireless network I connected to. Most of the time it would connect, but after around 10 minutes or so, the connection would drop out and the wireless card has to be "reset" so I can connect again. Otherwise I have a little yellow triangle over my network signal strength bars. I've updated to the latest drivers (14.2.0.10) but it was no luck.
This happens with every wireless network and I know it's not the network because my old Vostro 1500 is running just dandy on all of them.
reliability of the ET dual port server adapter. I have a Windows Server 2012 hyper-v host thats used to run all of the vm's I use in my house on an ASUS P9X79 WS motherboard. The board comes with 2 Intel gigabit nic's, one of which is an Intel server nic. Ever since installing Server 2012 it only registers one onboard adapter for use and the other isn't. Because of this I am planning on getting a second server grade network adapter for the vm's to use and have the onboard dedicated to management only. The only thing currently holding me back is if the OS will properly detect and run the network card in a non-server motherboard? Any insight as to if it will work on my board or not? Google has only revealed uses on server boards and not workstations.

How do I disable the power management feature that slows my NIC down when I am on battery power?
I have a dell e6500 with a Intel 82567LM Gigabit LAN card that always connects at 10Mbps when I plug in the ethernet cord when I am on battery power, I've tried using different routers (I have two gigabit routers and one 100 mbps router)... it still auto-negotiates at 10 mbps I've tried using different cat6 cables, it still auto-negotiates at 10 mbps.I've checked the drivers, I have 10.0.6.0, which is the latest from the support.dell.com website.
However, the minute I plug in the laptop, the NIC connects at the proper speed. Essentially, when the laptop is using battery power, the NIC decreases it's speed to 10 mbps. When I plug the laptop in, the speed jumps up to what it should be (either 100 mpbs or 1 Gbps, depending on which router I'm plugged in to).
So, how do I disable this feature? I want to connect at the maximum possible speed, regardless if I am plugged in or not.
what other cards are compatible with XPS 13 Ultrabook? Like so many people, I have been having a problem with my wifi when the computer is used a little far from the router, and thinking about buying a new wifi card for a replacement (which is silly, and I shouldn't have to do, given my computer is brand-new and cost more than £1000, I know... but I don't seem to have much choice). I've confirmed that the motherboard network works in WinXP (Intel 82579V Gigabit) and typically the 32-bit Windows XP drivers work on Server 2003 as well. Several of the other drivers have installed just fine, but the network driver install package fails with "No Intel Adapters are present."

I have a problem with my Lenovo y560. One of the members here had the same prob. but his thread is closed,so i can't write him anymore. PM also doesn't work.[URL]"...I have a Lenovo Y560 that worked fine up excepting a keyboard issue that I fixed based on a youtube posting. The fix was to tape a small piece of antistatic tape under the keyboard over a screwlike piece of metal. Apparently that metal was causing static by rubbing against the keyboard data cable. It fixed the problem. Previous to the fix, various keyboard keys prompted shortcut keys (maddening and couldn't type).After assembling the keyboard and the top of the keyboard pad (was very careful to not bring static and assemble properly), the wireless connection began to drop. I have another laptop (Asus) with a similar set-up but a Centrino wifi card (vs. Intel 1000 bgn for the Lenovo) and it was connecting to the wifi no problem. Often, I'll see a yellow sun symbol over the wifi bars or a blue animated circle or a red x. Changing the standard settings does not work. Attaching an ethernet cable brings up a perfect connection.
1) I've covered an antenna of some sort with the anti-static plastic (pea-sized piece).
2) My wifi card is bad and coincidentally went out when I fixed the other problem above.
3) When the keyboard problem existed, I hit a shortcut that reconfigured the wifi somehow (but it worked fine before I opened up the keyboard.

My laptop has Intel 6300, which supports up to 450Mb. But the Actiontec MI424WR only has 54Mb. It has nice features, but it uses MoCA and connects over coaxial cables, making it unnecessarily harder to use my own router. So I searched online and found tut about how to set the actiontec as a bridge and use your own router.
1) Wouldn't that lower the speed of the router of my choice? Say if I get a 450Mb router, but I need to connect it through the port on the Actiontec, which iirc is only 100Mb. Shouldn't that mean that the new router is forced to operate at only 100Mb max?
2) What is FIOS' top speed? I'm not even sure if it can go up to 450Mb.
3)I have no problems with this Actiontec currently, the only thing I'm looking for is more speed. Has anyone tried calling Verizon and see if they could switch the connection from coax to CAT5?
recently signed up with comcast and everything was working well the first day or so. My download speed has since crashed and burned, getting .3-.5 Mbps down but still normal ~4Mbps upload speed. A wired setup through the router gets ~22Mbps, which is what I'm paying for so it's not an ISP issue. how I can figure out if it's the router's wireless or my laptop's card (no other PC handy) and what I can do to fix it.
