I'm running a Dell and a Sony laptops with XP sp2 and using a toshiba Windows 7 as wifi network host. I had been using a Belkin Wireless G plus MIMO router and have now switched to a Belkin ShareN300 router hooked to a Mediacom modem for internet access. All computers have Internet access but not sure if XP machines are running G versus N standard. How do i find out what class network card is in a laptop and how to upgrade to get best performance from new router?
My computer is a thinkpad with vista and when i go home to my wireless internet it connects just fine. When i go on campus to use wireless internet it also works just fine. But when i am at my apartment using a Netgear wireless adaptar connected to broadband cable provider. my computer just keeps telling me that the connection is unidentified and I have to use my ethernet cable all the time. I have two roommates that connect just fine (one has a macbook the other has xp)
I recently purchased a new broadband wireless GA DSL2+ router HUAWEI Echolife HG520b. I have set it up on my computer and have been successful in connecting to the internet via my laptop which runs on windows 7 but my other laptop running on windows vista SP2 is unable to connect wirelessley to the internet. It is able to find and connect to the router with no problem. But it appears unable to identify it and cannot connect me to the internet. I have tried many things and nothing seems to work.
I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop that I can't get to identify my wireless network. I can get online using an ethernet connection to the router, but it can't identify the network and the wireless connection gives me just Local Only. I have another laptop that can connect to the router, and the Toshiba can connect to other networks. For whatever reason, the issue only appears when this laptop attempts to connect to this router. I've looked for suggested fixes, but none of the following have worked: Disabling firewall Deleting network adapters and having windows install them again Confirming that dynamic IP address is assigned Confirming that DCHP is enabled Running KB928233 I've tried every suggested fix I could find and nothing has worked. I have a Clear Home modem connecting to a Toshiba Satellite A215 with a Atheros AR5007EG Wireless Network Adapter and Realtek RTL8101E Family PCI-E Fast Ethernet NIC.

I have changed the wireless router and reset and kept the same old Name and password. This is functioning satisfactorily and my all other devices such as lap top, mobile etc are connected. But another laptop is not identifying the connection and hence unable to connect to internet. I have tried diagnostic and repair tools but have failed.connect my device to internet via wireless router?
I have tried restarting my laptop multiple times (something that usually works for me in terms of reconnecting to the internet) but that didn't work. And like i said it does not recognize a single wi-fi network while my ipod, phone, and the other computers in my household recognize our wi-fi and our usual neighbors wi-fi without any problem.I was torrentingsome music yesterday, and may or may not have stumbled across a bad site with a virus, but that's the only conclusion I could make.(Currently posting this on my brother's computer)I need to get my connection back and get online again asap?
My laptop normally always works on the wireless network, but every now and then its randomly stopped working and said "identifying network" followed by "could not identify network, unidentified network." When i would troubleshoot it would say stuff about the default gateway and not a valid ip address. THis was fine because it would always just start working on its own in a day or so. However these arnt coming up when i do the troubleshoot this time, and its been over a week and no improvement.Im obviously writing this from the desktop. and the stats below are the desktop stats.

basically we got sent this new router from Orange (our ISP) and we have had problems with it for the last week. The router model is the Netgear N150 DGN1000. Sometimes I connect it will be absolutely fine, but then the next time I log onto my laptop it can't identify the network, it says connected but doesn't have the globe in the bottom right hand corner of my screen. Then we have to reset the router a few times everytime until it recognises it, even though the settings are saved when we connected last time. It is the same with my sisters laptop. We both have Atheros network adapters so that may be a compatability issue with the router, but my brother connects fine on his everytime. A similar problem occurs with modern warfare 3 on my ps3, it won't let me sign in to playstation network half the time and keeps saying NAT type failed, even though NAT is enabled on my router. get this problem sorted and to get a consistent network connection that connects every time that would be great. We changed the security type to WEP on it a few days ago from WPA and that meant we could sign into modern warfare 3 some of the time rather than never, but we are still having issues.
Just purchased a new Router and set it up. Powered up my laptop and its showing it as an intruder and isn't allowing it to access the net. How do I solve this and allow it to connect? Router is Netgear N300 Wireless Router
I just bought Lenovo ideapad with window8 and touch screen, my problem is when I try to connect it through my belkin n300 is always saying restart the computer. when I plug in Ethernet cable from the router to the laptop is working fine.
I recently bought a netgear n300 wnr2200 router. The first day I set up the network and everything worked fine ( my ISP don't require any passwords etc, standard automatic set up - basically just typing a SSID and a password ( WEP)). The Internet worked perfectly and my iPhone, iPad, ps3 all connects without any problems whatsoever! without any more management than typing password. My laptop, acer aspire 3820tg (windows 7) worked perfectly the initial day. After this it struggles to connect. I will sometimes get the "could not connect to ...." message. Sometimes using the troubleshoot it wil fix the problem by itself. Most times not,
What is weird is that even if I get a connection I will at random intervals get " local access only" or completely dropping the connection. ( then it usually will not connect again) He wifi signal is 100%. I'm not able to make it work in a stable fashion. I have tried updating to the latest network driver for my laptops broadcom wifi adapter (from acer driver site) but this changed nothing. Turning on/off the wifi adapter does not work. Rebooting sometimes works but it's completely random. Sometimes going to network properties and enabling active settings for WLAN will let it connect (sorry if this is not the correct wording, my windows is in Norwegian) (it's the lowest box that you can check, and when this is done you can press "configure" . When pressing it just says cisco something is enabled and showing an "okay box " )
When connecting to the router, it says it has the latest firmware.
Example today: I boot pc, get an error message saying it cannot connect. I try letting windows solve it- doesn't work. I try reboot - doesn't work. I try activate WLAN settings - doesn't work. I reboot the pc - doesn't work. Third reboot (only difference is that pc is placed in a different table in my living room) and I magically get a connection. With active WLAN setting being enabled prior to boot!
I moved my pc 5 meters to another table, wifi signal is 100% but it starts dropping to only local connection !?!? I move back, and it's working again.. Funny thing is that the router is only 7 meters from the table where it's not working ( this could be a coincidence) and i can use the wifi in rooms much further away with devices that shouldn't have better WLAN adaptors(such as iPhone). I have never had any trouble with Internet connections on wifi with this laptop prior to this!
recently signed up with comcast and everything was working well the first day or so. My download speed has since crashed and burned, getting .3-.5 Mbps down but still normal ~4Mbps upload speed. A wired setup through the router gets ~22Mbps, which is what I'm paying for so it's not an ISP issue. how I can figure out if it's the router's wireless or my laptop's card (no other PC handy) and what I can do to fix it.
Wireless connection suddenly stopped working. Ran Dell Wireless WLAN Card Utility and got "There are currently no wireless adapters available and enabled". Device manager states network adapter working properly. I have disabled, then enabled it and it still won't work.
Is there a way that the desktop can get on the internet through the same aircard that is plugged into the laptop? Or will I have to purchase a cell phone card for the desktop too. At the moment both computers are routed thru a satellite modem which I want to get off of.
I had to send my HPg61 laptop in to check out a heat issue a few months ago. When it came back, I got a headphone jack issue (now resolved) and a Wi-Fi problem - I used to have great wifi from my bedroom to my parent's study which is where the modem is, even when I did have the heat issue, but when I got it back, that all changed. From my bedroom, my laptop would say "no connection detected" and had a red x over the wifi icon in the taskbar, but would have good connection if I were in the living room with it. This didn't last long - one day, the icon turned into a computer with a red x over it.
I am trying to upgrade some older laptops (about 4 years old or more) WiFi. Most of them have I believe 802.11 b,g cards in them. I would like to upgrade to b,g and n so they will connect to all home networks more easily. I believe most of the b,g and n internal WiFi cards have three wires were all my laptops only have two.
I am using HP dv9000 model laptop. Operating system is Windows 7. One month ago my laptop suddenly stopped detecting wireless card( It is working with Ethernet).
So I have a Lenovo Z570 laptop, which doesn't have express card or USB 3.0... And only 100mbs Ethernet.Yesterday my brother tried to stream via wired connection some very high bit rate 1080p movies, which unfortunately, some stutter/buffer a little, or had video glitches every 5 secs.I want to try gigabit Ethernet, is there a way to get gigabit Ethernet on my laptop with only esata and USB 2.0 available connections?? And if there is, do they really work??
I don't like the wifi installed in my laptops.I am thinking about switching them to intel 6300 and maybe one in bigfoot 1102 or 1103. My home router beeing 3x3 compatible I should see improvement.
Anyway I am wondering if it works easily or if I have to install some antennas inside which would be a big mess.
When I click on the Wireless Network Connection icon it says "Wireless network unavailable." There's also an error message that says "The Dell Wireless WLAN Card is disabled. Use the Dell Wireless WLAN Utility to enable it." When I right click on the wireless network icon it says "No wireless networks were found in range. Make sure the wireless switch on your computer is on. To see an updated list, click 'Refresh network list.'" I don't have a wireless switch. I have a wireless enable icon and it says Enabled. My wireless network is working because my phone sees it and two other networks in the neighborhood. I couldn't find the Dell Wireless WLAN Utility. I also tried my iPhone hotspot. Laptop did not detect it either.
I bought a brand-new Inspiron 15R laptop from Dell and the DW1510 Wireless N WI-FI card will only connect at a maximum of 72mbps. I've tried the laptop with two different N certified routers a (D-Link and Belkin). Routers are configured correctly for N speed and within 10 inches of the laptop.
The speed I am experiencing is nowhere near the 300mbps connection speed possible.
I own an Inspiron n5110 laptop(Dell) with an Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N 1030 wireless card. I use Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. I constantly drop internet connection, mainly when downloading and playing games. In the right bottom corner, where my wireless connection signal strenght is showed, I get an yellow triangle with '!' mark in it saying 'Limited access'. When troubleshooting, the only way to get an internet connection again, I get an message 'The default gateway is not available' and it says that it's fixed. after awhile I lose internet connection again and everything repeats. I figured out that it's not from my router or Internet Service Provider. I saw in the forums the option to exchange this card for the 6230 upgraded version but that is not a variant for me because in my country the technicians can at very damage the laptop.
Im attempting to connect to a password protect WAP2 Personal Wireless Network (I have Windows Vista). Unfortunately I can connect to the network but it will not Identify the network therefore I cannot connect to the Internet.
I have tried turning off the router and my computer, I have also tried both of the windows fixes for this problem (Reseting the network adapter and resetting my IP settings).
I've seen where the micron is printed on a fiber strand, and that you can identify the connector type, but how do identify the difference between a 50 micron OM4 MMF, a 50 micron OM3 MMF, and a 50 micron OM2 MMF?
