Junk Hiding Within Network As To Configuration Of 4 Earlier Networks?
Feb 27, 2012
I have a win 7 pc networked to several xp desktops and notebooks, nas, wired network printers, and all works well. Its no big deal but everything I look at to do with my network on my win7 pc says its network5. Is there a way to have this network 1 which I assume it was once? Does this mean that there is also junk hiding within my network as to the configuration of 4 earlier networks?

My problem is that when i try to use device manager it tells me mmc cannot run a version of internet explorer earlier than 5.5 and i have internet explorer 7. One thing is that we dont use interent explorer any more we use american online but we still have internet explorer. We got rid of it when we stopped wanting to pay for it. And if i try to hook up the modem for this the dsl light keeps flashing red and everything else is green i dont know why it is red i set up everything. i used the splitter and powered the modem and put the ethernet cord into the back of my xbox and then used the spiltter for the phone line thing and connected the phone line to the back of the computer to the phone thing on the splitter and then used the dsl cord to the back of the modem and on to the splitter.

I'm in the process of migrating a rather big NAT configuration from a customer running pre 8.2 ASA software. The customer has 2 Dynamic Policy NAT configured which have overlapping source addressesOther Dynamic Policy NAT has the destination address of "any"
Other Dynamic Policy NAT has a single host address as destination address towards InternetThe Dynamic Policy NAT configured with the "any" destination is applied to all translations for the source host towards Internet
What I'm interested in is the following
Since both NAT statements are equal in a sense (because they are of same type) what is the next deciding factor for ASA decides which translation rule to use?
Does the "nat_id" parameter define which rule is checked first? Is the NAT rule with the lowest "nat_id" value used regardless what the order of the NAT rules is when you check them on the CLI? (with "show run global" and "show run nat")I'm just interested on how the NAT operates in this case, even though were generally using 8.4 at the moment.

I've been assinged a task to connect our branch office with the head office, so that the IP Phones in the branch office can be connected to Cisco Call Manager at head office. To accomplish this they have given a Cisco 877 Adsl router a 10 Port 3-COM POE Switch and 3 Cisco 7911 IP Phones. Currently the there are 7 PC's Connected to 3 COM Switch which indeed is connected to a Internet router(Speedtouch). First I thought of connectiong the IP Phones to the Ethernet Port on Cisco 877 router but had to change my mind as the ports are non POE ports and I do not have adapters for IP phones. So I've decided to connect the Phones to 3 COM Switch and create VLAN's (DATA & VOICE) and pass the DATA traffic through Speed Touch and Voice traffic through the Cisco 877 router, but when I tried accessing the 3-COM Switch via Console I am getting Junk language( See the attachment for reference).
how can I pass through this Junk messeges and access the switch

At intermittent times, we will have a single device start to "hide" behind a 1242 bridge. In the past, my team would reload or reboot the bridge, and everything would come back up.But the 90 seconds of lost data were causing problems.
I found the the WB was always available. So I would ping the hidden device from the WB, and it would ping.Next, I showed the ARP table, and got the MAC address of the hidden device. Then, I would start a ping from my PC, and leave it running. Constant "Destination Unreachables" from the router.Next, I showed the bridging table for F0, and sometimes the device would be there, sometimes not. I would add a forwarding bridging entry manualy, and exit conf.
Showing the briding table would show the device, with a "P"ermanent age, but still no pinging. Finally, I would remove the forwarding briding entry, and pings would start within a couple of seconds.During these periods, outbound UDP packets will continue to be forwarded from the PC.So, my managers want to convert everything to UDP, which is a potential disaster in my opinion. We recently purchased an SRP527W router because of its capability to configure site-site VPN tunnels. The configuration of IKE and IPSEC is working and the tunnel comes up but the problem is that the router is passing our internal IP addresses through the tunnel. The remote end we are connecting to requires us to hide all traffic behind one IP address which would ideally be our external static IP address from our ISP.

I recently bought a Medialink Wireless N router and configured it as per the instructions. I have a desktop computer connected to the router now and it works great with a wired internet connection. However when I try to connect to the wireless network with my laptop, the network does not appear in the available list of networks. The broadcsting SSID feature for the router has been enabled. I am not able to figure out if it is a problem with the wireless network or my laptop, because my laptop has been acting weird lately. Is there a way to test that the wireless adapter on my laptop is working fine. I am able to see other wireless networks on the list. How do I know for sure that my wireless network is set up right?

Basically, the issue I am having is we have a class b network ID of 172.16. We had a new phone system installed last year which needed to be on an isolated network as our switches do not have QoS on them. Plus they are quite bad...
Some genius decided to use the same network ID on the new phone system as our current network but they are totally isolated networks.
This is where my laziness comes into play... We use a laptop connected to the phone system's network to connect to configure the phones etc but I would like to do this at my desk. So what I have done is configured a wireless access point on the phone systems network so I can connect to it on my laptop to theoretically make changes to the phone system on my PC, but also staying connected to our network for obvious reasons... I do have some networking knowledge, and I am assuming the routes are going to be completely wrong because of the same network ID issue not allowing me to connect to the phone system on my laptop. But I am not sure if I can add a static route to resolve this.

I'm working on a friends laptop that used to connect wirelessly to their network no problem, and all of a sudden it would no longer connect at all. It a 5 year old Gateway laptop running Windows XP Media Center. It just hangs at "Acquiring network access" and never connects. I'm pretty sure it's their network because it works on my home network perfectly, connects and stays connected.
Can you give me some pointers to do to the laptop and/or the network? I normally would start fresh with the wireless network, but they have a bundle package of AT&T (internet, phone & TV all-in-one) so the router is branded AT&T and don't want to mess any of that up.

I have new DIR-615 D-link router. Since we installed it the network has disappeared randomly off the available networks list, and when I try and open Google Chrome it says there's DNS error. Troubleshooting through windows networks doesn't work because it can't find any problems since my network doesn't even show up on the list. We've even done a factory reset and the problem persists, and it does this about once a day. Resetting the router temporarily fixes the problem. This problem is happening on all 3 laptops in our home, two of which run windows 7 and one which runs XP.

I have got a cisco 1841 router. I am able to create different vlan in the cisco router and I have got only 2 ports, fa0/0 and fa0/1. Now, I need to create different network in the same router at least four networks. FA0/0 is used for external networks. Now I want to create 4 vlan in this router. Namely, 10. 10. 10.1, 10.10.11.1, 10.10.12.1 and 10.10.13.1. The FA0/1 is connected to a 48 port normal switch. In the switch I am going to connect the cable of all the 10. 10. networks. Is this possible to access creating four vlan and routing all of them to the external networks with the fa0/1 port only. Is dot1q possible with only the router and a normal switch or is there any other possibility for this case.

I work in a small village in Africa and Interent access is often very unreliableTherefore I have 3 different ways of accessing the Interent from my home. The cheapest is Wifi from a local provider, but that doesn't always work. More expensive and still often unreliable is a 3G access. Then, when WiFi and 3G don't work I still can access the Internet via a Inmarsat BGAN satellite terminal, but that is very expensive. What I'd like do is to connect several computers to the same WiFi, 3G, BGAN Satellite Interent (all Ethernet) access via a home WiFi network. Now the questions I have:- can I just connect everything to a switch and then to the Wan-port of a wireless router?- how do the prioritisation works? When there is 3G available, I dont want to access the Internet via the BGAN, bacause that's too expensive?

I have an HP Pavilion notebook that was given to me by a friend who had upgraded to a new computer. Due to the fact that she no longer remembered the password to the computer I did a clean install of Windows Vista Home Premium to gain access to the computer. Unfortunately, while the computer seems to be running perfectly, when I attempt to find network connections my computer not only can't find wireless connections, but it doesn't even allow the option of manually creating a wireless connection under my Internet options. My computer has a built in NVIDIA nforce Network controller listed under my network adapters and when I check its status it states that it is working properly, yet it doesn't detect any wireless networks. In addition to this, I've read online that the wireless indicator light on my computer should switch from orange to blue when turned on, but even with my wireless switched on the light remains orange.I've also clicked the update drivers option on the NVIDIA network controller, but it states that the drivers are current and changes nothing.

setting up networks with multiple locations and multiple wireless points. For example: My sisters' home has here modem in her main computer room, it has a Belkin router hooked to the modem. Then a line goes from there to my nephew's room where I tried to expand their network by adding another router. I really just wanted an access point, but they don't seem to sell these as much as they used to. Anyway, I had it working, but it was two different networks, NETWORK1 and NETWORK2. So they had to swap networks when moving around the house. what would be the best hardware setup to provide both sides of the house with some Hardwired access as well as wifi access? Right now, we have two routers, a DIR615 (or something like that) and a Cisco E1000, and again hardwire going from the main computer room to my nephew's room. Also, in my house, I have lots of stuff... I have an Actiontec Router from FIOS, feeding a small hub as well as a switch in my main room. Which then feeds a Ps3, Wii, laptop, Denon reciever, and Access Point... and also feeds my Apple TimeCapsule, which also feeds my printer. My wireless devices range from cameras, iphones/ipads, and a wifi unit (I forget what it's called, but it connects my DVR wirelessly to my network, and the DVR itself doesn't have wifi).
my question about my setup is, should everything be on one network... as in let the ActionTec handle most of the duties and use switchers and accesspoints to extend the network. Should everything be on the same wireless network and channels? Like if I used my access point to extend, do I want the same settings as my main wireless router, and would that be the same for the Apple Airport Extreme? Also, does having all these wireless networks going create any kind of hinderance on my performance. For example, the PS3 has some sort of wifi in it... it produces a SSID, but I never connect to it. Should I make sure that's off? And in my main room, should I go with just the AirPort extreme over using it and the Wireless Access point.

I have a problem with my home network/internet - I have a working wireless network that I have used for some time now and it works just fine. the problem is that internet restrictions where I live require me to register each unit to the building network before I can gain access to the internet. My caretaker told me today that normally, I only should register my primary computer and the wireless router to be able to use the internet freely. However when a new laptop appears( I have a guest), I can easily connect it to my own wireless, but it can't use the internet, as if it needed to be registered again. I ran out of registration codes and I really would like to have freedom i connection opportunities. The caretaker said that the system gives every registered unit a "fake" IP, so after giving it to mu router, all other units connected through that router should have unlimited access. Is my network configured in a wrong way? I don't know how to ask this in a more simple way... I just want to be able to connect a friends laptop to the net with just my local password, which isn't happening.
