I need to extend the wireless range over what I have using an E2000. Can I use a WAP610N in repeater mode? If not can I use a WAP54G knowing that there will be a performance loss? Is there another option to add additional coverage to the existing wireless network?
View 2 RepliesWe have a wireless network and would like to extend the range for it and I was told that a E2000 could be setup to extend the range.If we say that our existing wireless network has the SSID network1, can the E2000 be setup so that it is connected to a LAN socket and then wok as a wireless runter with the same SSID (network1) so that pc's can connect easily ?Or must the two wireless routers be connected with a dedicated cable ?Or must I setup the new E2000 up as a new wireless network with a new SSID like network2 ?

I know that this would work but I was wondering if the WAP54G could be used as a repeater for the outside (I know a lower speed). I know they are two different channels but I wanted a larger range for my wireless. I am on Windows XP, SP2, using Firefox. Can this be done?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI bought my self a WRT120N as my wireless router for my house. and not a long ago i bought the WAP4410N, for my repeater (after i ask to some people).my house were concrete wall, it have about 15-20cm thick, and we try to avoid any wired LAN. The destinaton were unreachable with only WRT120N.it's look like this (what i want for the network on my home) : [code] i already tried to setting the WAP4410 as a wireless WDS repeater, and wireless client/repeater (with and without "Allow wireless stations to associate"). both were unable to connect (limited), although i get the signal. for the IP on the WAP4410N (192.168.0.50), i used static IP [IP, Subnet and Default Gateway were fill in] within the WRT120N range (192.168.0.2 ->192.168.0.51)

- is there any settings that i must set on the WRT120N, before combining the WAP4410N?
I use a E2000 as a wireless access point to the Internet, by connecting the LAN of the E2000 (set for x.x.x.5) to the LAN of an RVS4000 (Set for x.x.x.1). The E2000 is set for Automatic Configuration, and everything works fine..... Until a power failure occurs... Then, after everything boots up again.. I get the "NO INTERNET" prompt on the wireless....
By using Ping Plotter, from a computer on wireless end, and another computer with Ping Plotter on the wired side of the x.x.x.1 LAN, I've determined that it's the E2000 that has disconnected from the RVS4000.
I have found a work-around, though....No matter How the setting boots up, If I toggle away from and then BACK TO: NAT DISABLED in Advanced Routing, Everything is back operational..... Until the next Power Failure....
Is there any way of making this Automatic.
In another forum, there was a suggestion of putting the E2000 in Bridge mode in WAN settings... I can't find it....
we got a At&T Modem/Router upstairs, and then we got a long ethernet cable running from there to the basement. The problem is that this only allows for one LAN connection at a time (an issue for LAN parties and such). I do have an E2000 Linksys router however and I want to be able to use that as like a switch/access point.I am pretty sure this is possible but I have forgotten all of the steps to do it.The att modem/router is running on 192.168.1.254, and my Linksys which is now directly connected is on 192.168.1.1, so I have a different address in that regards.Do I need to edit my Linksys settings now, or do I have to edit the at&t settings?Also I will be using this for Xbox Live at points so will I need to re-open all those ports up on my Linksys, or at least set the DHCP to the Xbox's static IP to keep my NAT good?

I have the repeater's MAC address in the AP and it's set to "Access Point + WDS" mode. I don't know what I could be doing wrong. Is it a conflict of DHCP on the AP vs static on the repeater?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have one system running as a fale server in my house, upgraded my wrt54g to an e2000 and that server cannot get through therouter. if I switch to dhcp it works fine, then switch bake to a static ip outside the dhcp range and use the same mask, gateway, nds,etc I can ping the router but can't get through it. If I then reboot the router it will work for a short time but eventually stop and I have to reboot the router again. I haven't setup any kind of restrictions or other security, server is wired not wireless.

I have a fairly large home (>5000 sq ft) with multiple levels and some "dead spots" in the extreme areas. I would like to have a fantastic wi-fi signal through the home for access to my home network for my family and internet for guests. I have Fios with a 50/20 mpm with a "g" router. I also have purchased 2 repeaters (ampedwireless.com) and installed 1. Recognizing that it appears to have created a different network, so this isn't what I want to do. Then I went back and purchased 2 access points. I need to have an "hardware solution" in my theater (basement) as well as in my bedroom (3rd floor).

We had a 2wire 2701 HG-S (we got this for free when we signed up for our DSL service) and now replaced it with a Netgear N300 Work and Play model. I want to know if we can set up the 2wire router as another access point to improve our wireless signal range. Right now we have a good signal upstairs (where the Netgear router is located), but not the best signal downstairs. I am able to run an Ethernet cord from the Netgear router downstairs to the 2wire if necessary, if it will improve our WiFi signal. Both of these routers are router/modem combos that include the DSL modem, in addition to wireless access point btw. Is this even possible to do? Would it require me to install a custom firmware onto the 2wire router?

Part of the problem is that I am many miles away and I've never setup a wifi-netork involving more than one device, that device being a router.I connected the TL-WA901ND to the router(a Thomson tg787) located in the house, this router couldn't be used simply because the SSID and its password is locked, and we sometimes have people renting the bottom floor and we would prefer a better SSID and a changable password for the network. The first TL-WA901ND(will call this one TL1(AP) from now on, the other being TL2(RP)) is set to operate as Access Point, having a different SSID and password for the network, and it works great. However, when I try to set the other one, TL2(RP) to repeater mode, with the TL1(AP) and that SSID/MAC as "target", it doesn't seem to work. I've tried using bot the repeater mode and the universal repeater mode but none of them seem to do the job.Is is possible to repeat the signal of an access point or does it have to be a router? The SSID and the WPAkey of the repeater is set to the same as the access point, is that correct?The access point is not the one handing out IP-addresses, the router is still acting as the DHCP-server, is that correct?

I thought i was havng problems with the repeater after i change from router to a server, (and i'm now using a router in bridge mode) so the server is managing all the dhcp.. etc, Hence, the router is Running as an access point. View 9 Replies View RelatedI have just installed 3 access points along with 6 repeater access points all running V12.4. They are all AIR-AP1242AG-E-K9 using the 2.4GHz radio.
Prior to installation I bench tested that the repeaters would associate with the access points and if one of the access points was turned off the repeaters would automatically roam to another access point. I did not have all 9 devices powered up at the same time, but did have 2 repeaters and 2 access points powered up to simulate association and roaming.
During installation as access points and repeaters were powered up everything behaved as expected (repeaters were associating to access points etc.) however during installation once everything was installed the 3 access points were all powered down for half an hour or so and once powered back on the repeaters did not automatically re-associate until they were re-booted.
I have now configured the repaters with parent MAC addresses to reflect the above current assocaition pattern but not yet powered off the access points to test if this forces re-association as this is now a live operational site!!
Is it normal to have to re-boot the repeaters if ALL 3 access points are powered down at the same time? i.e. If only one access point is powered down will the repeaters automaically roam to another access point o.k.?

It appears to be working but before I got the cable modem I had it connected to a router and it was set-up with a static IP address.
