I'm very dissatisfied with the range and signal strength of my new WRT610N dual band router compared to the WAP54G Access Point I used before.Can I configure the Access Point as a repeater for the 2.4 GHz band on the WRT610N if I use the WRT610N as a Wireless G router rather than wireless N?
View 5 RepliesI have the following network configuration. Linksys E4200 is a main router which connects directly to internet. I have also a couple of WET610 bridges. One of them sends internet through WAP610 (linksys access point - works fine). Another one is still free, so I would like to share internet from the second WET610 through my WRT610n router. I tried to use the same setting as people recommended for direct cable connection of two routers (WRT610n WAN -> main router's LAN; DHCP and NAT on WRT610 turned off, WRT610's IP differs from the main router's IP), but it doesn't work in my case (WRT610n WAN -> WET610 -> wireless -> E4200). Unfortunately WRT610 doesn't see DHCP (so no one of clients receives proper IP, I can't reach my network if I connect to WRT610, I can't reach WRT610 from my network).

We had a 2wire 2701 HG-S (we got this for free when we signed up for our DSL service) and now replaced it with a Netgear N300 Work and Play model. I want to know if we can set up the 2wire router as another access point to improve our wireless signal range. Right now we have a good signal upstairs (where the Netgear router is located), but not the best signal downstairs. I am able to run an Ethernet cord from the Netgear router downstairs to the 2wire if necessary, if it will improve our WiFi signal. Both of these routers are router/modem combos that include the DSL modem, in addition to wireless access point btw. Is this even possible to do? Would it require me to install a custom firmware onto the 2wire router?

I have just moved into a new apartment that has a free wifi connection the problem is that my apartment is in the basement at the completly opposite side of the office and i cant get a strong enough signal to connect to the internet and im not very good with computers. the first time i tride setting up the repeater i was able to connect everything and get online but it had changed the ssid and when i tride to change it bacck to its origanil name i lost my internet connection and have not been able to get access the internet again.

I have a WAP54g set up as a repeater. It even shows in the WRT54g device list (Tomato firmware) as a WDS interface but nothing can connect to it. I have the repeater's MAC address in the AP and it's set to "Access Point + WDS" mode. I don't know what I could be doing wrong. Is it a conflict of DHCP on the AP vs static on the repeater?

Now he has a fairly large 3 story house, and wanted to place an access point on the top floor to be assured he'll have strong and reliable signal. He's going to have multiple TV's wired into the network, as well as computers, laptops, phones, a Xbox 360 and a PS3. Were using Gigabit switches and a D-link Simultaneous Dual-band Gigabit router.The modem, router, and main 16 port switch will be in his basement in a semi-server room. He currently has 12 lines run throughout his house, 3 to the top floor, 5 to the main floor, and the ability to lay some in the basement if he needs. The 16port switch will plug into the router, I'm also putting an 8 port into the router from the main and top floor. The remaining lines will plug into the switch in the basement. On the top floor I was going to install an AP or Router turned into an AP into the 8port switch.Now the only reason I am considering using a router instead of just getting an AP, is that neither of us can find a simultaneous Dual-band AP. It seems the only simultaneous DB out there is in routers. So, my question is, will I be able to easily use a router as an AP AND get simultaneous Dual-band out of it if I do so? Is there a Simultaneous Dual-band AP on the market that would a better investment?

I thought i was havng problems with the repeater after i change from router to a server, (and i'm now using a router in bridge mode) so the server is managing all the dhcp.. etc, Hence, the router is Running as an access point. The server which is a Hotspot Server does the rest. For some reason, repeaters, do connect to the access point apparently, but when connecting the client to the repeater (instead of access point) I can't get internet access. although i do get access to the repeater setup.and access point setup too.. or if that is the fact that repeaters must be connected to a router, not access point? should I use it as a WDS? or AP-wds?
