I just purchased 2 E2000 routers at BB and was assured the second one could be configured as a repeater access point. Some current messages indicate this is not possible.Will a Cisco moderator please confirm and clarify repeater options.

We have a wireless network and would like to extend the range for it and I was told that a E2000 could be setup to extend the range.If we say that our existing wireless network has the SSID network1, can the E2000 be setup so that it is connected to a LAN socket and then wok as a wireless runter with the same SSID (network1) so that pc's can connect easily ?Or must the two wireless routers be connected with a dedicated cable ?Or must I setup the new E2000 up as a new wireless network with a new SSID like network2 ?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI use a E2000 as a wireless access point to the Internet, by connecting the LAN of the E2000 (set for x.x.x.5) to the LAN of an RVS4000 (Set for x.x.x.1). The E2000 is set for Automatic Configuration, and everything works fine..... Until a power failure occurs... Then, after everything boots up again.. I get the "NO INTERNET" prompt on the wireless....
By using Ping Plotter, from a computer on wireless end, and another computer with Ping Plotter on the wired side of the x.x.x.1 LAN, I've determined that it's the E2000 that has disconnected from the RVS4000.
I have found a work-around, though....No matter How the setting boots up, If I toggle away from and then BACK TO: NAT DISABLED in Advanced Routing, Everything is back operational..... Until the next Power Failure....
Is there any way of making this Automatic.
In another forum, there was a suggestion of putting the E2000 in Bridge mode in WAN settings... I can't find it....
we got a At&T Modem/Router upstairs, and then we got a long ethernet cable running from there to the basement. The problem is that this only allows for one LAN connection at a time (an issue for LAN parties and such). I do have an E2000 Linksys router however and I want to be able to use that as like a switch/access point.I am pretty sure this is possible but I have forgotten all of the steps to do it.The att modem/router is running on 192.168.1.254, and my Linksys which is now directly connected is on 192.168.1.1, so I have a different address in that regards.Do I need to edit my Linksys settings now, or do I have to edit the at&t settings?Also I will be using this for Xbox Live at points so will I need to re-open all those ports up on my Linksys, or at least set the DHCP to the Xbox's static IP to keep my NAT good?

We use static IP address so if someone wants to use the wireless an IP address has to be assigned to it and be manually configured for IP Address, Gateway, Sub Net Mask and DNS.
This is becoming unwieldly, but it is safe. Is there any way to config the WAP54G as a router that would automatically assign an IP address in a range just for wireless devices.
Therefore the wireless devices could be set up as DHCP and we would use WPA/WPA2 encryption with a passkey, instead of just assigning static IP addresses.
I have a Sitecom WLR 4000 wireless router. I also have a Linksys Wireless G Accespoint. Can I use that AP as a extender/repeater for the Sitecom router? If yes, how to configure one and other?

We had a 2wire 2701 HG-S (we got this for free when we signed up for our DSL service) and now replaced it with a Netgear N300 Work and Play model. I want to know if we can set up the 2wire router as another access point to improve our wireless signal range. Right now we have a good signal upstairs (where the Netgear router is located), but not the best signal downstairs. I am able to run an Ethernet cord from the Netgear router downstairs to the 2wire if necessary, if it will improve our WiFi signal. Both of these routers are router/modem combos that include the DSL modem, in addition to wireless access point btw. Is this even possible to do? Would it require me to install a custom firmware onto the 2wire router?

I can't get wireless access in the loft, and I want to put the AP up there, connected through Ethernet. I want to use the same SSID and security for the AP as on the router and repeater so I can roam around(!) That's possible isn't it?What I've done so far (which hasn't worked) is connected via laptop to AP, set AP into AP mode(!), set the AP to dynamic IP, set the SSID / security the same as the router/repeater, plugged the AP into the Ethernet and tried to connect.

I know that this would work but I was wondering if the WAP54G could be used as a repeater for the outside (I know a lower speed). I have just moved into a new apartment that has a free wifi connection the problem is that my apartment is in the basement at the completly opposite side of the office and i cant get a strong enough signal to connect to the internet and im not very good with computers. the first time i tride setting up the repeater i was able to connect everything and get online but it had changed the ssid and when i tride to change it bacck to its origanil name i lost my internet connection and have not been able to get access the internet again.

I have a WAP54g set up as a repeater. It even shows in the WRT54g device list (Tomato firmware) as a WDS interface but nothing can connect to it. I have the repeater's MAC address in the AP and it's set to "Access Point + WDS" mode. I don't know what I could be doing wrong. Is it a conflict of DHCP on the AP vs static on the repeater?

I have a rental property with 3 apartments that are sharing the same internet connection. The users are consistantly downloading more than their monthly allowance, and I would like to monitor how much data each apartment's users are downloading.My plan is to purchase a Cisco WAP2000 Access Point and configure 3 SSIDs (one for each apartment). I havent decided if each SSID is to be setup on it's own VLAN.
Will I be able to use SNMP to monitor the data that each SSID has downloaded each month? I am happy to use a network management software package (such as PRTG from Paessler) for the actual monitoring itself, but I just need to know if the SNMP in the WAP2000 Access Point will provide the information to begin with.

I thought i was havng problems with the repeater after i change from router to a server, (and i'm now using a router in bridge mode) so the server is managing all the dhcp.. etc, Hence, the router is Running as an access point. The server which is a Hotspot Server does the rest. For some reason, repeaters, do connect to the access point apparently, but when connecting the client to the repeater (instead of access point) I can't get internet access. although i do get access to the repeater setup.and access point setup too.. or if that is the fact that repeaters must be connected to a router, not access point? should I use it as a WDS? or AP-wds? I set the "allow" and times from 6pm - 11:00 pm (while on xmas vacation) - the system works for a while he is shut off as i would like but....
After a period of time the entire house goes off line. I have to reboot the power on e2000 router and then disable the access restrictions. System then works. Problem is repeatable. What is the deal. I have updated firmware already. Otherwise the system works great. Never dies. Just when i set access restricions for a SPECIFIC time it kills entiore houese. BTW i can deny him outright 24/7 and the system idsables his access fine. Its just when i set specific times
