We've had a lot of failures in the past due to multiple reasons, electrical noise, surge, etc so we decided to change to Cat.6 SFTP. The problem is that now , even with proper termination of the shielding at either one or both ends, the noise is so bad that packet loss is above 90%.

I have a new router (ASUS RT-N10)and It is asking me to direct connect my cable modem to my computer, and then find my MAC address via command prompt, and clone it to the new router.I can get to my command prompt, the problem lies in windows 7 and vista's (or mine) inability to realize that my network card is directly connecting to the modem. (No internet connection available, doesn't think anything is connected). I have tried on multiple machines to try and find my modem's mac address but it simply is not working.I want to know if I can find the mac address through the old router, or what I need to do to have windows 7 recognize I'm directly connecting the modem to the PC.

If I connect the cable modem to my (linksys WRT54GS) wireless router, and then connect my laptop to a wired port in the router, it connects in seconds, successfully, This has happened to me 2 other times, when I tried to connect my laptop to a client's cable modem, because my client did not have a wireless router available, in their home. My wireless works fine. This has me perplexed. I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and NetworkManager Applet 0.8, I've tried some things to see what is going on, such as "ifconfig" "dhclient" as well as modifying the "Auto eth0" parameters and adding my laptop's MAC address, etc.

"For added security, some brands of routers treat Wi-Fi as separate from an Ethernet cable connection within the same router. If your HD DVR is connected to the router by Ethernet cable, and the iPad to the router via Wi-Fi, they may not see each other. Check your router manual as you may need to configure your setup."Can someone tell me if the WRT160N considers them as two separate networks when connected via wireless vs plugged in?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been using a WRT610N router for several years. A couple of weeks ago I purchased an iPad 2. I am not sure if its a limitaion of the iPad 2 or a wireless connection speed issue, but when watching You Tube music videos the video stops frequently and I have to hit the play button again to resume. This occurs more often if I am using Blue Tooth connected headphones than direct connected headphones, leading me to the initial conclusion that I am witnessing the limits of the iPad 2 processor. However, I recently downloaded the Speed Test app and have discovered that the wireless download speed varies from about 11-15Mbps, depending on the location (normal vs next to router). If I go to that web site and run the speed test there from my direct connected PC (connected to 1Gbps port), I get a download speed typically of 36Mbps (inflated I know because Comcast speed supposedly is limited to 25 Mbps).

Today I was playing the ps3 (call of duty MW3)... normally I would connect via wireless but I'm getting a ton of lag and it's becoming frustrating. Later on I moved the ps3 downstairs and connected it via Ethernet and it worked so good.I want to look into buying those Ethernet power lines but not sure how good they are compared to running a Ethernet cable from the ps3 to the router or how good they will be vs wireless? I just don't want to waste money on these. If all else fails we will probs run a Ethernet cable through the ceiling

View 2 Replies View RelatedOur family has about three computers that use a wireless network that we all share. We have an old Gateway, a WCG200, that is bridged to an E2000, which was set-up ever since we required better security when someone used our connection to illegally obtain movies. We got a letter which warned us of any future violations that could cause legal action, so we looked into our wireless connection to better secure it from any other individuals outside of our household. The WCG200 is connected to the outlet in the wall via cable, and then connects from the Ethernet to the E2000. The E2000 has a stronger security setup than the WCG200, which is the advice we received from our ISP and would allow us to keep the Gateway. It provides a strong signal, but from time to time, we suffer latency or slow loading through all of our online devices, even though our connection speed displays a solid 72.0 Mbps. I've tried the Event Viewer to see any problems, and I have noticed some small things:
- WLAN AutoConfig service has successfully stopped.Wirel?
- WLAN Extensibility Module has stopped. Module Path: C:WindowsSystem32cmihvsrv64.dll
- The server {E10F6C3A-F1AE-4ADC-AA9D-2FE65525666E} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout.
- Broadcom NetLink (TM) Gigabit Ethernet: The network link is down. Check to make sure the network cable is properly connected. [This last one is strange, since I use the Wireless Network Connection with a DW1501 Wireless-N WLAN Half-Mini Card, while the Broadcom adapter is under the Local Area Connection and displayed as not connected.]
Other than that, I'm not quite sure what the recurring problem comes from. Our WCG200 has a firewall enabled and our E2000 has an SPI firewall enabled. The security mode of the E2000 is a WPA2 setup. We have disabled the wireless network of our WCG200 in order to make use of the E2000.
I have a WAG160N wireless gateway . Yesterday when i tried to power it on after a couple of seconds the power led was solid green and the Ethernet leds were blinking with no Ethernet cable attached to the router . The ethernet leds would keep blinking for minutes . I tried to use a screwdriver to do a hardware reset ( with power on ) and i noticed that the power led would start blinking green/red for minutes . I tried to use another wired router which i have for backup and it could connect to the internet normally without a problem.
What the green / red blinking power led means ( power led is green and then changes to red and then it starts over ) ?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm going to combine 2 512 kbps ADSL line in my PC. i know that it would be much better to get a 1 MB ADSL connection...but the problem is where i live now there is not better speed than this! Well i have a PC with 2 LANs - 2 phone lines - 2 ADSL modems - as far as i learned from Google , by no means it is possible to combine them to have 1 MB data rate but it is possible for example IDM would works with one 512 and another program with another 512..!! And load balancing is the only solution for this which it needs a special routers ! it is somehow difficult for me to provide one ..!! so my question is :
1- Is there any other solution for combining this 2 lines?! I heard something about teaming.
2- Is it possible to use load balancing by software?
3- How about the efficiency and ping time?
Our work building currently has 2 separate DSL lines feeding into it, one on each end of the building. The reason for two lines was so each one would have its own bandwidth, thereby supporting more simultaneous users. There is a router connected to the DSL jack at each end of the building, broadcasting its own wireless network: let's call them Work 1 and Work 2.Is there any way for me to connect the Work 1 and Work 2 wireless networks, so that they appear to the end user as one contiguous network?

View 2 Replies View RelatedWe are bonding two LLU DSL lines using MLP. Our LLU provider supports MLP bonding and we have a few other customers working well on Cisco 1841s, although not such high sync speed lines as this problem site.
So the lines work well with no interface errors and sync speeds are very good and evenly matched between the two lines (approx 14Mbps downstream). It's all good - it's great in fact except that it just doesn't work properly! By that I mean we're not seeing the downstream throughput we'd expect. We actually get the downstream throughput of less than a single DSL line, so about 12Mbps. Upstream bonded throughput is fine and in line with the sync speeds.
Both circuits are 'active' in the PPP multilink bundle and I see 3 sessions on our core LNS Cisco 7301 (c7301-boot-mz.124-2.T.bin) - i.e. 2x circuits + 1x bundle. We've checked the circuits individually and 'actual' throughput (using NetPerf software) is similar for both lines and in line with the sync speeds.
We are seeing quite high CPU (50%) on the Cisco 1841 (c1841-ipbasek9-mz.124-24.T1.bin) at the customer premesis, but having tested a Cisco 2951 on the customer premesis with two new HWIC-1ADSL-M cards, this is not the cause. The 2951 ran at 5% CPU whilst we experienced the same problem.
We've checked the setup of both Cisco CPE and LNS with our LLU provider and they are happy with the MLP config. They themselves have been able to bond two similarly sync'd Annex-M DSL lines and get 25Mbps throughput on a 1841.
I work for an ISP and we are currently bonding 5x 6Mb ADSL connections for use as a wireless backhaul. We are currently using a Cisco 3725 and bonding the links via MLPPP. This set up is working fine except that we are not getting the full 30Mb on the download side. We are seeing more like 18 to 20. I am wondering if we can acheive the full speed with our current set up or will we need something different to get the job done.
