I purchased an E2500 wireless router. I am trying to replace a Netgear wilreless router with no success. During installation my laptop reaches about 25% and I get an error message. In short my laptop asks for an IP address with a password. Once I enter that information I receive an error message to call for assistance.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just bought an E2500 router. I have until now been using a Netgear DG834G v5.
I have tried multiple times but my success has been limited. I turned off DHCP in the Netgear, set the isp login question to no, and set it into bridge mode. I managed to use Cisco Connect to connect the Netgear and the E2500, but there was no internet.
I logged into the E2500 and entered by ISP details in the PPPOE section. I went to status and clicked connect, but a message would eventually pop up saying that an IP address could not be found. In the Netgear I could set up VPI and VCI etc manually, but can't find those settings in the E2500. My ISP also requires a dynamic IP - does this mean that DHCP must be off in both the Netgear and the E2500?
I factory reset the E2500 and tried Cisco Connect again, but it said that it couldn't find the device.
I just installed WRT54GH and wireless was working fine, after almost 3 hours passed I lost connection with it.I tried to connect using wireless with 3 different notebooks without success. Just using cable it works.I upgraded firmware from v1.0.010 to v1.0.01 but still not working.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI am trying to replaced our wired router (BEFSR41) with a wireless router (WRT54G V5) that we have floating around. When connected through the wireless router, I am unable to access 192.168.1.1. I went to the command prompt and The IP Address and the Default gateway are both blank. I even tried to manually set the default gateway to 192.168.1.1 but I was still unable to connect. Currently, I am connected directly to the modem so that I may use the internet for troubleshooting. I've tried releasing and renewing the ip, but it will not renew.

It connects via ethernet for internet and has a coax to transmit the guide data etc.So my idea was to just leave the Verizon router connected and on (with wi-fi off) so it could do the TV stuff and just plug my router into the ethernet wall port the Verizon guy installed.Not so easy of course, my E4200 will not recognize the ethernet from my ONT (I think that's what the device they put in my basement is called) and the internet doesn't work. I have factory reset the router.The reason I am doing all this is because the wireless range of the e4200 at 2.4ghz is near unmatched and given my house, the actiontech cannot reach my room.

I have many other wireless devices also running off the E3200, but my PC is the only wired device connected to it. When I replace the wired PC do I simply switch the new one in with the existing ethernet connection (I'm sure it is not that simple) or do I have to start over again recreating my entire network..security etc.. ? If so what is the process to start over ? Do I have to reset something on the router, reload cisco connect, create a new network name?
View 4 Replies View RelatedComcast upgraded me to a 30 Mbps speed, and my trusty old BEFSR41 v2 doesn't cut it. Cisco promotes wireless routers with a 1 Gbps ethernet, I would rather have a wired router, and use a WAP that I can unplug when I am not using it, since, for now, I only connect my work notebook wirelessly. Most wireless routers also generate a lot more heat than a wired one does, and I don't need any more heat in my Houston home.A new BEFSR41 v4.3 is only 10/100 Mbps. There doesn't seem to be any 1 Gbps wired routers for home use. Will a new BEFSR41 give me 100% of the cable Dociss 3.0 speed, or would I need to get a 1 Gbps router to get the fastest throughput? Or do I only need to upgrade when the cable speed increases closer to 100 Gbps?If a 1 Gbps router is better, are there any simple business wired routers you could recommend?

I have about 20 devices which i'm allowing to access my router, so i keyed in the MAC addresses into the config page and save setting. But only 16 addresses are registered, the rest refused to register no matter how many times i key in, it just reset back to 00:00:00:00:00:00 after i click on save setting.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI previously entered in settings for the "Static DNS" 1 through 3 (using ip addresses from OpenDNS and one from Google DNS).
I want to remove these so the router reverts to using the DNS allocated to it by the ADSL modem (which will likely be the IP of the modem, which then forwards the requests to the DNS from the ISP).But I can't clear the Static DNS settings. I have to put in 0.0.0.0 but the last zero is not accessed. I get the error: The value is out of range [1 - 254].So I end up with 0.0.0.1 and then all Internet access is lost on the computers because they are being given a bad DNS IP.
How can I reset the static DNS ip address back to 0.0.0.0 ?
I am trying to connect to a new VPN using my E2500 router. As soon as I connect, the connection breaks.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI want to add my E2500 as a second wireless router to cover my entire house.I have a Motorola Surfboard SBG6580 cable modem (Time-Warner) at one end of the house.I added via powerline Ethernet connection a new E2500 wireless router at the other end of the house.The E2500 set-up with all defaults and has the same SSID and Password as the Surfboard cable modem.It seems to work OK, but I wonder about network confusion/interference.Do I have to configure the E2500 in some manner to allow seamless roaming of my wireless devices (iPad, Cell Phones, Netbook)?I had an RE1000 with just the Surfboard, but it did not quite do the trick, and does not like both routers connected at either end.

The E2500 has an LAN IP of 10.0.0.2 and the router has 10.0.0.1 and a dhcp range outside of these. DHCP is disabled on the E2500. I can use my E2500 as a wired access point with no difficulty I plug something in and it calls the router and gets an address, but I can not get DHCP through the wireless of the E2500.

My internet was disconnecting sporadically. After connecting the new router, a started getting the same issue. I replaced my internet cable modem to a Cisco 2100 modem (provided by Time Warner). I noticed that the issue keeps happening sporadically which makes me believe it is my Linksys router. Every time a new wireless connection is connected, my modem circuit dies. View 2 Replies View RelatedI am working with vpn setups for the first time. I would like to be able to connect to a computer on a home network through a linksys E2500 router. I have found alot of documentation on connecting to an external vpn from a computer on the lan side of the router, but nothing on connecting from the outside in. The router does have a static ip address with my internet provider, so I can contact the router from the outside. But makeing the connection to the computer on the other side of the router is where I am missing something or I dont realize that it is not possible. On the LAN side I am using DHCP to assign the address to the computer I want to connect to. Perhaps I need to make it have a static address also? I realize that when I configure the connection from the outside that I need to direct the connection to the remote computer in some way, unless vpn connections are fully passed through the router and the connection issue I am having is with the "inside" computer.

It happens that i am not able to setup the configurations to make this work (This router does not supported by my ISP provider).
I have an E2500 configured inside my network. It is configured to give wireless PCs (This subnet is connected to a Lan port with 10.30.0.0 address) another subnet than wired PCs (this subnet is connected to Wan port 192.168.0.0). Since i configured i can access from wireless PCs to servers and PCs in the wired subnet but cannot access from wired computers from to wireless PCs. I suppouse it is because traffic is restricted from Wan to Lan.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a E2500 connected via LAN to my network via a switch or hub through a sonic wall and into the modem out to the internet. The problem is that I am only getting +/- 5Mpbs Down and +/-7 Mbps up through the router.
If I connect my computer to the network with out going through the router my speeds are more in the range of +/-28 Mbps down and 16Mbps up. I have been working with Linksys support but they have not been able to assist me with this yet! Is there any configuring I should be doing at the firewall or to the router to tell it to open up the port for faster speeds?
We are replacing some netgear switches with the Cisco SG200. The situation is relatively straightforward. We have a series of VLAN's coming in on a trunk from a service provider for our Metro Ethernet locations. These trunks then get cross-connect to various location for connectivity. The problem we have is there are two VLAN's that need to go to the same switch which provides access to our public IP block.
I set up the two VLAN's on the SG200 with the trunk port VLAN tagging on the service provider port. Then I set up a separate port for untagging the traffic with the PVID of the respective VLANS's as follows: [code] The public switch has no VLAN's configured (it is an SG200 too). If I connect GE2 to the public switch everything works fine. When I connect GE3 to the public switch, things die. I thought this might be caused by STP although STP should not be detecting issues like this across separate VLAN's. Disabled STP, no change.The same configuration with the Netgear worked without an issue. FYI, the VLAN's cannot be changed...they are defined by the service provider in this particular case. otherwise we'd just make them the same..

Here's the thing: we have a laptop that has been humming perfectly along for more that 12 years because we have never let it be touched by the internet. It has built in wi-fi, but we've never connected it. It has no viruses, no Microsoft creep, we've never had to purchase a virus software update and it has outlasted every piece of computer equipment we've ever owned. We'd like to keep it that way!
But now that the wireless printer is working beautifully, we want to know if there's a way to send the laptop through the router to the wireless printer, but not expose it to the internet. Is that possible?

The router is in the basement near a bunch of metal ducting and I live near a radio station, both of which I believe is killing my signal. Anyways, I was able to pick up a WAP54G wireless access point. I would like to use it as a wired repeater (hopefully to get the signal up into the upper levels of my house). Can I use the WAP54G with the E2500? I looked in the setup page when I was trying to set it up as a repeater, and it says it will only connect with another WAP54G or a WRT54G (linksys wireless g router).

View 9 Replies View RelatedI bought the new E2500 Router about 5 months ago and it was great until one day the wilreless part would not give me any speed at all. I ran a wired test of the router and I would get full 30Mbps speed that I'm supposed to get. So after firmware updates and everything else I took it back and got another one.It has worked great for a month and today it's now doing the same wilress slow down issue. I can run a lan connected test and get full speed. But wireless is bouncing around at 5Mbps~13Mbps. No where near the 30Mbps I'm supposed to be getting. What is causing the wireless to bomb like this?
