Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 Quit Working After 5 Months
Jul 24, 2011
I have been using the E4200 router with few issues for the past 5 months. I have the latest firmware installed and have 1 pc running Windows 7, a sling box device and USB storage drive connected in the rear and 7 wireless devices.
Over the past week, others in my household have been complaining of not being able to connect wireless. The other day, the connection quit for both wireless and wired connections. I thought it had something to do with my ISP (Comcast), and after I made a direct connect from my modem to my PC, the problem is the E4200. After unsuccessfully troubleshooting, I unplugged the router for a few hours.
Trying a few hours later, I was able to reconnect all connections. However, that lasted for a day and has not been able to connect. I did a reset and when going through the setup process, it says that it cannot connect to the internet. The only time I have any lights or activity on the internet port is when the router is booting up and then it goes off. The rest of the ports are working properly. Likewise, the link light on my modem shows no activity when connected to the E4200. The only connection I can make is to the browser utility.
I am now using another wireless router until I can get this resolved.
It's been a pretty darn good router for about 8 months now, then today one of the wireless connected PC's started to go intermittent internet, and then dropped the connection.
At first I thought it was the PC, but after checking other connected items (wii, PS3, another pc, 2 ipods, and 2 printers) I discovered all the wireless connections were dropped, and no one could see the SSID. An hour unplugged fixes nothing. 2 wired ports are working fine though.
When it's uplugged and then plugged in, all the little lights come on, then go out, and then, only the 2 wired port lights come on, nothing else.
I have had this wireless router a year or two and it had been working fine until late last night when it just quit. It will not connect to any wireless devices in the house. When my main PC is connected to the router, I cannot get on the internet at all. If I plug my PC directly into my DSL modem the internet works fine. I tried the reset button on the router and still nothing. When the router is connected I get this message:"Limited or no connectivity. You might not be able to access the internet or some network resources. This problem occured because the network did not assign a network address to the computer"It's very hard to troubleshoot the problem on the internet because if I have to connect the router to try something then I lose my internet connection.I hate when things quit working spontaneously. Absolutely nothing changed when this issue started. One minute it was working fine and the next it wasn't.
I hooked up with a Linksys WRT110 wireless router to a Zoom modem and my DSL on my desktop and laptop are both working fine. My problem is my phone lines quit working. I plugged a phone into the box outside and I had a dial tone. When you try to call my house it just keeps ringing.
Setup that was working. DCM-202 to AT&T Micro Cell to DIR-601 wi-fi.Now I can direct connect MacBookPro to DCM-202 and get internet. If I connect to DIR-601, either via ethernet or wi-fi, no internet. If I try another router, Apple Time Capsule, I get same result. If I just do an ethernet pass thru using the AT&T Micro Cell, still no internet. Basically, the DCM-202 will direct connect via ethernet to my laptop, but not pass thru an ethernet connection for any other devices.
i went to bed last night and my router was working fine, but today when i woke up my E2000 had no power it was still plugged in, do you think i fried it? i have only had it sence march and this has never happened before.
My DIR-655 wireless router randomly quit working. It was plugged into my modem and working great, then it just stopped. I restarted my modem and router, but the "Ethernet" light on my modem does NOT shine when plugged into the router.
I'm sure that the modem is fine, as I have it connected to my PC right now. I also tried it with my friend's wireless router - works fine.
I believe this may be hardware-related. I have tried restoring the router to factory settings and then setting up everything again: No luck.
I haven't had this router for long! Just a little over two years I believe (or it may be just a little over one). I have another wireless router somewhere that's 6-7 years old and still works. If it is hardware related (as in the router just randomly broke), then rest assured I will not be purchasing another D-Link router in the future.
My wife's computer was working fine. Two nights ago, a Windows update was automatically installed. Now, it will not connect to the internet. The map shows it connected to the network. We have several other devices on our network both wired and wireless and all of them are working fine.
I was able to use system restore yesterday to roll back the update. It still did not work. However, I tried connecting to a neighbor's wireless. It said something about refreshing the adapter and then it connected to our network and was working fine. Unfortunately, when she shut down last night, the windows update was reapplied. I turned off automatic updates and tried using system restore. It did not work this time. I removed every update that was applied in the last 48 hours but I still cannot get the computer to connect to the internet. However, it does connect to the internet when I bring it up in Safe Mode.
I have had the Netgear 3300 Dual Band for three years. Everytime I wanted to access using my laptop, I had to choose between 2.4G and 5G connection. For about a month now, the 5G does not show up. It doesn't show up as a network to select no matter what device I use. I have reset the router and updated the firmware. Both connection lights are blinking. I recently purchased and IPhone 4 and still I do not have the option of selecting 5G.
Just upgrade my Thinkpad to win7 64bit, but seems the wireless doesn't support by E4200 now, upgraded 1.0.03 and latest intel 14.2.0.10 for wlan card but still not working. Tried the TP with USB WN111v2 is not problem at all.4965AG works perfect in office WPA2 AES LEAP and netgear router.
I cannot get the Guest Network feature to work.Even though Guest SSID is enabled, it does not show up on any devices attempting to connect. Manually connecting by entering the Guest SSID fails (not recognized). On devices with the primary 5 and 2.4 GHz configured they do see the third network but without SSID (unknown) and are also unable to connect to it manually using the SSID.I did not try this before 1.0.02. Have rebooted modem and verified all configs (multiple times). The network is live in an office and can't keep screwing with it or drastically changing its settings.
I just upgraded to an E4200 from a D-Link DIR-655. I cannot seem to get my desktop to connect to the E4200 at 1 GBS. My adapter is set to "auto negotiate" but will only connect at 100 MBS. If I try forcing the adapter setting to 1 GBS, it never connects. I can swap out my E4200 with the DIR-655 and it will connect at 1 GBS just fine. I am using a CAT 5E cable. Is there something I'm missing here or is the E4200 just more finicky than the the DIR-655?
I just bought the E4200 routher at best buy a few weeks ago. I got it all setup how I want it. Its been working fine then about a day ago it started to stop working at random. All internet just stops working. Wired and Wifi. I have to either wait for it to work again or restart the router.
The latest Firmware for the E4200 states that there is now the ability to attach a printer to the USB port of the router. I am using a Mac, so that may be the problem, but I have followed the instructions on how to add the printer and it is not happening. It's possible that the MAC Firmware was not given the ability to add a USB printer like the PC Firmware upgrade.
I have an E4200 router & am trying to get it to work with ATV2 through HomeSharing & iTunes. It works fine when my PC is wireless & the ATV2 is wireless. BUT, when the ATV2 is wired via ethernet & the PC is wireless -- nothing!
PC is Win 7 64 - SP1 ATV2 is 4.4.3 (3323) and the router is: E4200 is 1.0.03 build 14
I am having a trouble with my router, our modem is the one that is connected to a TV box and it comes with a wifi function(a modem with a wifi function). I am not sure how to set it up, so I connected it to E4200 which is located in another room using CAT6 flat cable and set it to "Bridge mode". But whenever I open the TV box, the wifi won't work, and when it's closed, it works. :s how weird is that. Are there any problems? The modem with wifi will always work either way I open/close the TV box, but the E4200 wifi will only work when I close the TV box. I asked my service provider about this and they tell me it's not their problem anymore.
Just recently bought a Linksys E4200 router and it's been rocking so far! I upgraded from a WRT320N. However it seems that calling with SIP (using my Voip Buster account) doesn't work anymore.I don't seem to be able to register with the Voip service. Port is the standard 5060 (if my memory serves me well, I'm not at home now) and I already activated on the router the special tick for Voip ALG calling. Router is upgraded to the latest firmware and it's the V1 router. With all of the above, I still can't connect using SIP to VoiceBuster. It worked like a charm with the WRT320N so it's something with the router?.
I installed an E4200 in an outdoor patio area where the ambient temperature can be high (Las Vegas area); however, the router is located in the shade without any direct exposure to the sun. After using the router for about 15 minutes, the router is extremely hot and 2.4GHz band will stop working. In addition, even when the router is working, the 5 GHz band connects at much higher speed than the 2.4 Ghz band. The internet download speed is much higher using 5 GHz compared to 2.4 Ghz.
I've lost connectivity with all but one of the ethernet ports on my E4200 router. My desktop PC was connected to Port 1 but stopped working. Network troubleshooting via my Windows 7 Dell 8300 said I was not connected and to check the cable. I did that with several different cables and tried the usual router and modem reset. Only through trial and error did I find that I could connect to port 4 which is why I am able to write this post. What could have changed to disable ports 1-3 and can I get them working again? No issues with wireless connectivity.
I'm having a bit of trouble with my e4200, It keeps on "dropping" connection, and by dropping I mean it constantly around 3-5 minutes the internet stops working with all my computers, it's connected by wifi with 2 PC's, and 1 PC is wired with an ethernet cable, and I also have 2 mobile devices connected at it. The internet would start working again within 30s, to 1m, but that it drops soon. Methods I've done to fix it:
-Updated firmware to the latest one -Set the MTU to 1400 -Reset it, (30 second press) -Rebooted, (Cooled down, doesn't really run hot just a little warm) -Restored to factore defaults
I purchased an e4200 about 6 months ago and it worked great until the other night the Internet stopped working on my laptop (wireless). I tried unplugging both my modem (Motorola Surfboard) and router and plugging them back in, but no luck. I can accesss the Internet when plugged directly into the router (with both my PC and laptop), so it looks like the issue is with the e4200. To make matters worse (and I fear much worse), I can't even access the admin page to the router through either the Cisco Connect software or through the IP address. I've tried resetting it, I've tried the 30/30/30 reset (holding the reset button while doing an unplug and pluging back in), and reinstalling the Cisco Connect software, all to no avail.
I've found threads where others have not been able to access the admin page, but they still had access to the Internet url... I haven't found a similar thread where the router doesn't seem to work at all. A few other bits of information I can think of (let me know if there's other information I can provide):The Cisco logo light flashes slowly after reset which I believe is expected. The lights in back of the router seem to work as intended.Running Windows 7 Diagnostics finds the connection "doesn't have a valid IP configuration" and "The default gateway is not available."
My router was working just fine forever, the only computer that will connect VIA wire is my desktop, everything else for it to connect to my network it has to go wireless. Things like my blu ray player just will not connect. I am not an expert at all, but why is only the wireless working? I can use the Cisco connect and adjust the settings if need be.
I have a E4200 updated to the latest firmware I have problems with the wifi on the 2.4GHz band, in fact, at power on, many times wi-fi on the 2.4GHz band doesn't work but the 5GHz band works normally. After some reboots the wi-fi operating normally on both bands.
My DIR 655 router quit working and so I called D link. She had me reset the ip to 192.168.5.x. So now my dap1522 is not connecting to the 655. I connected the dap1522 to my laptop via ether-net and typed in dink, and got nothing, then put in default ip for the 1522 and still nothing. I also tried ip scanner and it would not come up.
I recently installed Arkham City on my computer played it for a while, tried google chrome, gave me a corrupt profile error or something (internet still worked and was connected at the time) restarted my computer and now it's telling me there isn't an ethernet cable connected to my computer.
Here's what I tried so far:
-Uninstalling and reinstalling the driver
-Updating the driver
-Using the network troubleshooting for windows 7
-Doing a system restore before I installed the game (gave me an error saying could not complete restore)
-Currently scanning my computer in safe mode with networking (seeing if that might work, doesn't) with malewarebytes
-Unplugged and replugged the router and modem
-Checked the router on another computer to see if there's a connection (there is none)
-Checked the router to see if there is a light in the port connected to the ethernet, it's blinking at a very slow a steady pace, unlike the ones around it which are solid green lights
-Tried the ethernet cable on another computer, works fine.

We have a non-wireless network of Macs at work and occasionally have a PC laptop connected with an ethernet cable. Everything worked well until the owner of the PC got a new one, and tried to install drivers for our HP printer using the original HP install disk. Now none of the computers can connect with the printer. What happened? How can I correct this? The Macs all run OSX 10.5.8. The Windows operating system is, I believe, XP.
last night my internet stopped working. I have a Linksys USB Wireless Adapater.Model WUSB600N Ver. 2 I have unplugged and replugged it in numerous times. I have disabled TC IPV6. I have attempted to enter Ipconfig /renew and it said the following
Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7600] Copyright (c) 2009 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved. C:UsersXDazX>ipconfig /renew Windows IP Configuration
My wireless connection for 2,4 GHz stopped working correctly. Here's the set up:
I have an E4200 Linksys router. Furthermore I have a desktop running on Windows7 connected to the router with a wire. No problem there. I can connect to the Intenet via the E4200 and a modem. Then I have a notebook also running on Windows7. Until yesterday it was wireless (2,4 GHz) connected to the router and to the Internet, but now I can see the router on the networklist (so there is connection), but it will not make contact to the Internet. If I hook up the notebook with a line to the router it works OK.Then I have an iPad which makes a wireless connection to the Internet (via the router) for the 5 GHz option, but it does not make a connection with the 2,4 GHz option anymore (before yesterday this worked well). I did not change any settings on the Linksys or other network options, Can an update from McAfee make a difference (only for 2,4 GHz?).
About 3 and a half months ago my internet connection has been extremely unstable. It will be fine for 20-30 minutes and then will spike up to anywhere from 4000 to 6000 latency and give me a constant disconnect for 2-7 minutes. This connection is affecting every computer in the house as well as the playstation 3 that is connected by wi-fi. All the computers in my house are hardwired.
