Linksys Wireless Router :: How To Change Password For WRT54G
Apr 9, 2008
I want to know how to change the Router Password. I have two computers running XP connected to my WRT54G; one via cable and the other wirelessly. I'm using WEP security. The router setup defaulted to "admin" for the Router Password; I'd like to make it a stronger password.
How do I change my wireless router's (WRT54G) external IP address? I'm having IP conflicts with Yahoo and whenever I check the router's IP, it's always the same, despite the fact that my cable Internet provider uses DHCP to hand out IPs.
I'm trying to change the wireless security mode on my folks' WRT54G to see if I can get the wireless adapter on their new TIVO to talk to the router. It looks like TIVO only does WEP, not WPA. I get into the wireless page of the router and when I try selecting anything but "WPA Personal", the selected choice flips back to "WPA Personal" in less than a second. I've updated the firmware but no change.
My WRT54G Router has been reset after severe weather conditions, the wireless in now unsecure. I am trying to change it back to secure mode under wireless / security wireless, but it does not allow me to do so. The security mode remains disabled and does not change to WEP or WPA.
i'm attempting to access the router's configuration options (192.168.1.1) and it's requesting a user and a password, i have not set any of them so i'm using the defaults, been, user (blank), password (admin) but is not taking them; after 3 attempts it gives me a 404 error.
I have changed the router username/password in the past and either I can't remember it or its not accepting what I am entering, because the router logon will not go through. I have unplugged the router for 5 mins and then let it come back on and still cant get in, pressed the reset button down and let it come back up still nothing, and I have unplugged the cable modem and router for five mins and then plugged them both back up and I still can't get the router to reset to the default admin password. In the past it has worked before but now nothing I try will let me into the router interface to set up anything.
My router has been in use for some time. WRT54G. I did the set up from the disc and instructions and it's been no problems. I would now like to add a password to log on to it from a wireless computer such as my laptop or the other household computer.
im trying to reset my linksys WRT54G wireless router because im trying to change some settings. i tried the 192.168.1.1 and it asks for a password, but i dont remember putting one on....i tried the admin in the password field and empty name field but that dosent work.I've tried holding the reset button on the router itself for 10sec+ but that dosen't seem to do anything.
I have a Lynksys WRT54G wireless router. It works just fine until I try to put a password on it. I go through the basic steps, it talkes all my information and tells me everything is good. I try to sign on the internet and it tells me my password is invalid....and YES Im sure its the right password I entered. I went to http://192.168.1.1/wireless.htm and did all the necessary instructions, and still, it doesn't work. I can change my network name and it works. As long as I leave it unprotected, everything works fine, but when I add the password, it tells me its invalid. I even used 123456 so as to make sure it was the right one.
I have a linksys WRT54G router. I am able to get to the admin menu via IP 192.168.1.1 but can not figure out where to to navigate to or how to put a (password on the wireless access) so my neighbors wont be able to use my router to get on the internet.
I haven't used my Linksys WRT54G v5 wireless router for about 1 1/2 years and needed it now at a new place.I set a user name and password I've long forgotten for access to the web based security protocols for the modem and I've lost the disk for the control protocol program.I tried pressing the reset button to clear the modem and it took the WPA protocol off the modem so I can use it without any security but that's not a good thing. How do I get it freed up so I can get to the security protocols and put security back on my modem?
I just dug my router (wrt54g) out of the closet and hooked it up but I cant remember my name or password for the router. Is there anything I can do that doesn't involve paying linksys any sort of "fee"
I was given this router (it's my 3rd one) and cannot get the reset button to reset the password. I have run throught a 30/30/30 reset as well as just holding the button in for the standard 30 seconds.
I know the router works, as in i can ping it. It asks for a password when i go to 192.168.1.1, but *blank* and "admin" do not work. When i click the cancel button it displays a pink(salmon) screen that says "401 Unauthorized Authrization required". (all of this is when i am connected to it with an ethernet cable to #1)
When it's sitting there it has an led lit over power and one ove wlan which flickers from time to time.
Time Warner used remote access to get into my wrt54g system and create a new user id/password for security. As a result, my hp printer will no longer communicate with my computer. HP says to hook up a usb from router to printer, but there's no usb port on the wrt model I own. I hooked up a usb from computer to printer but it did nada...
I just got a WRV 210 wireless router (three of them actually, planning to set up a VPN). But I can't set the admin password. I've tried 4 times, and every time, i've got to hold the reset button to reset to factory settings in order to access the management pages! I enter the new password in both fields, and then click to save the settings. It restarts. Then i try to log in - and it doesn't accept the new password. It doesn't accept the default password. I've tried with admin/(new password) and (new password)/(new password), and admin/admin. None of them work, forcing me to reset router to factory settings. I've tried a password composed of 6 letters followed by a . Thinking that maybe the . was throwing it off, I tried 6 letters followed by 3 numbers. That doesn't work either. I've updated to firmware version 22.214.171.124. No luck.
Windows 7, WRT54G2 router. How do I change the default Linksys password from "admin" to something of my chosing? I appear not to have the Setup CD. Router is working well but it still has the original password.
I have tried multiple times to hard reset my Wireless G WRT54G ver.2 router, but have had no success. I held the reset for 15 sec, 30 sec, 2 min, etc and also tried holding it and then unplugging it and then plugging it back in. I've tried everything that I have seen suggested. My problem is that I don't know what the password is to access my router's web utility thing and I need to change the IP address. With every reset attempt, I hope that the default admin password will work, but sadly no.
I'm trying to setup a Linksys wireless-g router model number WRT54G with my DSL connection. I followed the basic instructions that came with the router and towards the end of the process it says detecting network settings with a % bar. The bar fills to 100% and then asks for a password. I've tried the password my DSL company gave me along with various other things like admin etc. After I enter the password I hit enter and it just asks me for the password over and over again.
This is for a E1000 model router.I recently downloaded Cisco Connect. It wants my router name and password. I don't know the password. How can I find the password or change it? The password might still be the default, but "admin" does not work.
I have an E2500 router. When I enter 192.168.1.1 as a web address I am asked for a User name and password. When I do not enter anything for user name and put “admin” in password the screen again asks me for the same two things and eventually goes to a 401 message.
When I enter admin in user name and my secure password to allow devises to connect to the network it lets me in. I thought the password to enter the system settings and the one to enter the network are usually separate. When I open the Cisco Connect program and go into the various menus there my “secure” password is written and visible for anyone who clicks it. Is this how it is supposed to work? Also, how do I occasionally change the password to enter into the network.
I have a WRT54G V8 and everyone says the username to sign is is blank and the password is admin. I have tried this and it does not work. I have also reset the router several times and this also does not work.
I purchased a used WRT54G router that has DD-WRT firmware installed. I do not have the user name and password for it. How do I get around that issue so I can set the router up on my network. I would like to keep the DD-WRT firmware.
