Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54G - How To Change External IP

Mar 16, 2008

How do I change my wireless router's (WRT54G) external IP address? I'm having IP conflicts with Yahoo and whenever I check the router's IP, it's always the same, despite the fact that my cable Internet provider uses DHCP to hand out IPs.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Can't Change Security Mode On WRT54G

Dec 28, 2008

I'm trying to change the wireless security mode on my folks' WRT54G to see if I can get the wireless adapter on their new TIVO to talk to the router.  It looks like TIVO only does WEP, not WPA.  I get into the wireless page of the router and when I try selecting anything but "WPA Personal", the selected choice flips back to "WPA Personal" in less than a second.  I've updated the firmware but no change.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 External HDD Temperature

Jul 11, 2011

I cant remember where I read it but when I noticed that my HDD was running hot even when it was meant to be idle, I read that the router causes the storage device to run at full spin regardless.
I was wondering, do we know if that issue is fixed with this latest firmware update (June 14th)? I've had it on for about 10minutes but I'm not sure how long it takes to get to the temp that it was running at before.

Linksys Wireless Router :: 9000 - Can't Ping External IP

Aug 15, 2011

I'm looking to setup a few ip security cameras in my house and would like to monitor from work.  The first thing I did was give the ip camera a static ip on my local LAN  I also forwarded port 9000 to this ip.  I then went to [URL] to look up my external ip address.  I was able to obtain one ip for my router and another for my modem (disconnected router and went direct through modem).
I've since tried to ping my router WAN ip from work numerous times via and I get timeout errors.  I've tried traceroute and it gets close, but times out the last 3 hops. I've had Comcast on the phone many times trying to resolve and needless to say they weren't able to work.

Linksys Wireless Router :: External HD Not Recognized On E4200 Due To Virtual CD

Aug 8, 2011

I have an E4200 wireless router and have bought myself an external hd for media sharing (STOR.E STEEL S 1TB disk (PA4252E-1HJ0). Unfortunately this disk comes with a Virtual CD partition on it, which can not be deleted or removed (url....)!! Despite this being massively annoying by itself it also renders my disk useless, as my router does not recognise the disk (to to the additional partition). Is there any possibility to extend the firmware or to provide a fix that allows me to use the partitions on the disk, despite this additional "virtual" device?

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT350N Can't Get App To Connect To Server Via External IP

May 23, 2012

I have a Linksys WRT350N which I am trying to use an app on my iPhone to connect to my server using the public/external IP of my cable modem. I have the necessary ports opened and also tried adding the server to the DMZ but no matter what I can not get the app to connect to my server via my external IP when I am on my WiFi. I can connect without any problems if I use the NATed IP on the server when my phone is connected to the WiFi. It also works fine connecting to the external IP if I am on any other WiFi or the cellular network (which shows ports are forwarded correctly). I just can't connect to the server when I use the external IP and I am on my WiFi network. This is annoying as I need to keep changing the app's settings back and forth between the external and internal IP whenever I am home or away. I am left thinking this is some kind of issue with the WRT350N not allowing local internal traffic to reach the external IP. Any way to resolve this, maybe by entering a static route?

They only find "deleted" files. Not the 13k files that were there and not deleted. The drive was never bootable. What to be used to recover the files.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 Seems To Die When Mounting External Hard Drive

Jan 20, 2012

I have realized that E4200 V1 I have, with 1.03 firmware, seems to be dying when I reboot it and it tries to load the USB HD I have connected to it. By die I mean the web server does not work anymore (, and new computers can't connect to the router. I suspect it is due to the amount of files I have in the External Disk Drive -I used to have Media Server enabled, but I disabled it because this problem was happening, and I only left File Server enabled. Now since I moved many of my pictures to it, it seems even File Server is causing problems, and if neither one work for me, then this router does not justify its money, since that was the only reason I bought this E4200 hardware. These problems are solved in V2? Since it is still under warranty, I could try to exchange my V1 for a V2 version.
