I'm trying to change the wireless security mode on my folks' WRT54G to see if I can get the wireless adapter on their new TIVO to talk to the router. It looks like TIVO only does WEP, not WPA. I get into the wireless page of the router and when I try selecting anything but "WPA Personal", the selected choice flips back to "WPA Personal" in less than a second. I've updated the firmware but no change.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a network with 2 WRT54Gs in it. One in the besement connects to my cable modem and serves as a gateway and DHCP server as well as a wireless access point. That WRT54G is perfectly accessible. I have another in my room set up as a router and access point only, connected by its ethernet port to the gateway. This one proves a bit trickier. Thet network works flawlessly, and if I couldn't see it sitting right there I would doubt it even existed. I can't ping it (I forgot the IP but tried all the ones that seemed logical), it doesn't show up in my network map, etc. From what I gather that's how a switch is supposed to work. But since this is also a managed router, I would think there should still be some way to connect to it to administer it. How can I log in to this router to change settings if I need to?
I'm not sure if maybe 192.168.2.0 is the other router or if that's some kind of special address (My network is on the 192.168.2.* subnet, don't even ask why...). I've seen it in other posts about routing tables but they all had it routing to 0.0.0.0 instead of the router's own IP. I tried pinging 192.168.2.255 and got no responses at all, not from any computers or from either of the routers, so that was not useful. Tracert from my computer to the gateway doesn't show the router (my computer connects to the gateway through the router).
This is for a E1000 model router.I recently downloaded Cisco Connect. It wants my router name and password. I don't know the password. How can I find the password or change it? The password might still be the default, but "admin" does not work.

I keep clicking the dropdown menu, and when I choose anything BUT disable, the security auto-sets back to disable. I have rebooted the router. I have rebooted the modem. I have changed my router's password.How do I turn my WEP back on without it just saying. I then realized that DS games require a WEP Key, but my E1000 defaults to WPA/WPA2 mixed mode. My laptop and my Wii connect online with the default settings just fine. My 3DS also seems to be able to connect with the internet router, but not Wi-Fi, for some reason. So when I'm on Cisco connect, I go to Router settings, it brings my web browser to "http://192.168.0.1". From there I go to the Wireless tab, and then click on Wireless Security. I've tried multiple times to change the Security Mode to WEP, and even disabled security. But after I save the settings, the connection on my laptop is lost, and I have to reboot my router all over again, and am back with the default WPA/WPA2.

The connection is really bad often and my internet speed drops for no reason all of a sudden. I'm getting fed up and want my old router back.
I know it's possible to change the SMC into a modem (put it in bridge mode) and then connect my router and use the Linksys router instead of the SMC. View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an Aironet 1250 AIR-LAP1252AG-A-K9 I am having issues with, and I am hoping for some direction on how to resolve them. I understand this question has been posted many times many different ways, but i have no luck unfortunately. Here is where I am: I can terminal into the AP, which has been set to factory default, with the username and password and enable password of Cisco. Once I am in the enable mode, I get lost.
Usually there would be an option to go to config. t, and work from there, but this AP does not have that option, Actually if I do a ? at the enable prompt, the commands list only starts with the letter C; but none are config.
I also cannot get into the web interface of the AP. The AP gets a DHCP IP from my DHCP server, (192.1681.128/24) but I cannot get into the web interface using the IP it gets from DHCP. The page never comes up. To add to the confusion, I cannot turn off the CLI event logging, although I enter the command "no debug all". Maybe I am off on what to put in. Nonetheless, it drives me crazy with messages every two seconds as I am trying to type while attempting to figure things out.
Overall, from reading the forums and doing Google searches, I am going on the assumption that the AP is now in lightweight mode, as opposed to autonomous mode, which is where I want it to be. I have tried the method of updating the firmware to the autonomous firmware from Jan 2013 for the AP. I use the TFTP method as I have found here on the forums a few times; I hold the mode button down while applying power to the AP, let the system LED turn red and release the button so the TFTP process can go through, but nothing changes.
I have the AP powered from a gigabit POE switch. The computer I am using for the TFTP is on the same sub net as the AP. I have tried using 10.0.0.6/24 for the computer with the TFTP on it, made sure the view all file extensions option was checked, and renamed the firmware to the .default extension-still nothing updates.
I also noticed that once I hold the mode button down for 20-30 seconds then let it go, the CLI output says the AP it is on the 10.0.0.x sub net, but I cannot ping the computer with the TFTP program on it. If i try to, it get a "Command not supported" message. So I will go on the idea that this is most likely why I cannot do a TFTP update.
About 30 seconds after I release the mode button and the AP boots, it will say it has a 10.0.0.x IP address, then it starts going crazy with messages that it cannot find a DHCP server.
