View 6 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded the firmware on my wrt 160N v3 and changed the wireless security to WPA2 Personal from WEP (I needed to do this to get higher speeds from a recently purchased wireless adapter). Now the router stops transmitting a signal intermittently for about a minute before coming back on line. The time between droppages is also not the same. Before the firmware upgrade (and the change in security settings) the router was rock solid. Where I can get the older version of the firmware (which seems to be more stable than the current version)?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a WRT54G router, and when I am in the security area, where you choose WPA, WEP, etc... I keep clicking the dropdown menu, and when I choose anything BUT disable, the security auto-sets back to disable. I have rebooted the router. I have rebooted the modem. I have changed my router's password. How do I turn my WEP back on without it just saying. Also, for additional notation, my US light on my modem is no longer green, it is orange since this issue has occured. Is there any connection that might be related to this?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a Linksys WRT54G to which 2 computers are connected of which one has no problems at all.The other computer just had its hard drive replaced and Windows XP Pro SP1 installed on the new hard drive. With the new operating system, I cannot get the computer to access the router. The connection status reports that the network device is working but IPCONFIG /ALL reports nothing (blank). The NIC is onboard the motherboard (ASUS P5LP-LE). I have swapped out cable ports at the router and tried a different cable to the faulty computer to no avail. If I had a spare NIC I would already have tried that too. FYI, it was working without problems prior to the hard drive crash that prompted the new drive and OS install.I tried a wireless USB network interface (Zonet ZEW2508) and the computer also reports it working. However, the network icon continually cycles between connected and unavailable, about 6 seconds connected and 1 second unavailable. IPCONFIG also reports blank on this.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI had assumed it was quite difficult or at least time consuming for anyone to break into a password protected WPA2-PSK encrypted wireless network. I'm still a novice or a learner when it comes to computer networking, so I realized this could be untrue.
Some days ago, my 9 year old nephew visited my parent's home where I had set up a WPA2-PSK encrypted network with what I know to be a strong password for both the router and the security phrase.
When I arrived back to my parent's home, I found out that my nephew was some how able to use the password encrypted network. There was no way he could have known the network password himself. I don't mind if my nephew uses our network, but it shows there are serious holes in the security of a WPA wireless network if he was able to bypass the password.
My parent's later told me that while I was away, my nephew was unable to connect to the network, and so used his cell phone and called his father (my brother-in-law). In just a short of time, my brother-in-law explained to my nephew how to bypass the password on our wireless network and use the internet. My parent's are not too happy about what happened and did not realize what my nephew and brother-in-law were doing at the time.
No matter what password is used to protect the network and no matter how complicated, my brother-in-law uses some type of technique to bypass them. And as demonstrated by the story above, he even uses his own children to bypass our network security.
I would greatly appreciate if some users could instruct me on how to better secure my parent's WPA-PSK2 network from this criminal to prevent the breaching from happening again. And if he was able to break through, then I'm guessing it really isn't too difficult for others to breach the security of a WPA-PSK2 network either.
I have a WRT54GS v5 running firmware version 1.52.8. When I select the WPA wireless security mode, the encryption technique is fixed to TKIP - I am not given the option to change it to AES? I would really like to be able to select WPA- with AES (this is related to the WAP54G apparently not being able to do do WPA2 - AES in client mode).

I have a WRT54GS. It is hardware version 2 and firmware version 3.37.7. I have it set for WPA AES security. For that hardware version it looks like I can only upgrade the firmware to version 4.71.4.001. Will that get me to WPA2 AES encryption?
View 6 Replies View RelatedJust installed 2 E4200v2's for a customer today. Was very optimistic because they worked great in my lab, both for my Win7 laptop a MacBook. And after installing 1 on-site and testing w/ my laptop, it worked fine.BUT problems arose when I installed both at the same time (I don't think I ever did this in the lab) and then I tested some computers. Every computer that I tested (except mine of course), cannot authenticate correctly using the WPA2 password.
For the Mac's they get the error "The wi-fi network... requires a WPA2 password" then after entering the *correct* pswd, it says "Invalid password". They're a Mac shop, but I did try one other Win laptop and that also had a problem, and the error was something like "security mismatch" although I was rushed and didn't write it down.
My iPad cannot connect to my network wireless through WPA2 using router E4200 the way my Macbook is connected. Only using guest access i can get internet contact. Is this a known problem with this combination and/or is it meant to be, that only guest access gives an iPad connection?

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy Inspiron 600M laptop running XP - SP3 connects fine to my wireless network when using WEP but refuses to connect when using WPA2. I have Verizon FiOS with an Actiontec router (MI424WR - Rev. I). Googling this issue produces lots of older posts about the need for SP3 vs. SP2, but not much else. Should I look into updating the laptop's driver? If so, how? I tried creating a custom password (key) with fewer digits.
I'm also not thrilled about the wireless speed I'm getting on this laptop -- about 6 Mbps even when it's right next to the router. (The desktop, with a wired connection to the router, gets 25.) (1) Could the two issues be related? One tech rep assured me that WPA2 would greatly increase my network's range and speed, but other people deny this. (2) Is this just due to the Inspiron's older wireless receiver, or is there something else I could tweak to improve my speed?
