I have a WRT54GS v5 running firmware version 1.52.8. When I select the WPA wireless security mode, the encryption technique is fixed to TKIP - I am not given the option to change it to AES? I would really like to be able to select WPA- with AES (this is related to the WAP54G apparently not being able to do do WPA2 - AES in client mode).
View 3 RepliesI have a WAP54G v3.1 running firmware version 3.05.01 and a WRT54G v3 running Tomato v1.28. The WAP54G is configured client mode and works perfectly. However, I was not able to get the two to communicate with WPA2 security - maybe, I just didn't try hard enough? Both devices are capable of doing WPA2 with AES but client mode doesn't seem to work with WPA2? I had to drop back to WPA-AES to make it work. Why is this?

The router is in the basement near a bunch of metal ducting and I live near a radio station, both of which I believe is killing my signal. Anyways, I was able to pick up a WAP54G wireless access point. I would like to use it as a wired repeater (hopefully to get the signal up into the upper levels of my house). Can I use the WAP54G with the E2500? I looked in the setup page when I was trying to set it up as a repeater, and it says it will only connect with another WAP54G or a WRT54G (linksys wireless g router).

View 4 Replies View RelatedAt one of our offices, we have a Cisco ASA5505 firewall that has dhcp enabled. I have a WRT54G router plugged into that firewall with DHCP enabled. The scope of our inside network is 192.168.51.***, however when connected to the WRT54G, it gives you the scope of 192.168.1.***We have an antenna amplifier screwed into one of the antenna ports on the router. This whole setup works fine.
The problem is we need to install an access point WAP54G in a building across the property (picks up router wireless signal fine) to repeat the wireless signal to the back of the property where the router will not reach. I have read that all you need to do is type in the wireless mac address of the routher into the access point and select "Wireless Repeater". I have the channels set to 6 on both devices as well as the same security configuration. When I try to connect to the wireless network on the access point, It never gives me an ip in the 192.168.1.*** scope, which the WRT54G is configured to give out. Also, in this setup does the WRT54G need to be set to router or gateway mode? I do not need it to distribute ip addresses. [code]

View 6 Replies View RelatedJust installed 2 E4200v2's for a customer today. Was very optimistic because they worked great in my lab, both for my Win7 laptop a MacBook. And after installing 1 on-site and testing w/ my laptop, it worked fine.BUT problems arose when I installed both at the same time (I don't think I ever did this in the lab) and then I tested some computers. Every computer that I tested (except mine of course), cannot authenticate correctly using the WPA2 password.
For the Mac's they get the error "The wi-fi network... requires a WPA2 password" then after entering the *correct* pswd, it says "Invalid password". They're a Mac shop, but I did try one other Win laptop and that also had a problem, and the error was something like "security mismatch" although I was rushed and didn't write it down.
I recently upgraded the firmware on my wrt 160N v3 and changed the wireless security to WPA2 Personal from WEP (I needed to do this to get higher speeds from a recently purchased wireless adapter). Now the router stops transmitting a signal intermittently for about a minute before coming back on line. The time between droppages is also not the same. Before the firmware upgrade (and the change in security settings) the router was rock solid. Where I can get the older version of the firmware (which seems to be more stable than the current version)?

View 6 Replies View RelatedRoku tech support confirms the new Roku2 XS has a 5GHz (as well as 2.4GHz, or course) radio that supports n. I can connect no problem on 2.4GHz Mixed using WPA2 Personal, but not on 5GHz Mixed using WPA2. The Roku can't even see the SSID being broadcast. I don't have any other gear with a 5GHz radio to confirm the E4200 is actually broadcasting a 5GHz SSID.

I set the access point to act as a repeater and entered the mac address from the router (It said to use the lan mac address. is that right?). I have them set on same subnet with static ip addresses. They have same wireless ssid and password with one using channel 10 and the other using channel 2. I can receive an ip address from the router and connect to internet. I cannot get an ip address from the access point. I tried a static ip on the computer and it will connect, but I don't have internet. Am I missing something in the setup? Can this access point act as a repeater for this router?

I have a WAP54G wireless router that worked fine at our other house, but we have moved and I'm trying to set it up. (I was not the one who originally hooked it up at the other house.) I am trying to hook it up to our Charter internet which works just fine with my Mac if I just connect a cable between the Mac and the 'box' that Charter hooked up. When I plug in my husband's PC with the cable in the same way I plug in my Mac, his will not work. He has an internal internet connection that he connects to wireless, but it is really slow. This means that I cannot use Rick's PC to set up the router, because it cannot be hooked up to the cable source.

We use static IP address so if someone wants to use the wireless an IP address has to be assigned to it and be manually configured for IP Address, Gateway, Sub Net Mask and DNS.
This is becoming unwieldly, but it is safe. Is there any way to config the WAP54G as a router that would automatically assign an IP address in a range just for wireless devices.
Therefore the wireless devices could be set up as DHCP and we would use WPA/WPA2 encryption with a passkey, instead of just assigning static IP addresses.
I bought a XBOX for my grandson and want to connect it to the internet for him. It wont connect without a WPA2 pass phrase. I tried entering 192.168.1.1 to access the router but it wont go though. I contacted Linksys and of course they said my router needed to be reconfigured at a cost.

I have never setup an wireless access point before and am having some issues. I have a Linksys WAP54G ver 3.1. A friend gave it to me and he said it was working when he pulled it out of his office.I defaulted the device and using the wizard have the following setup:

When I try to connect to it via my laptop I get the error: "Windows was unable to connect to XXXXX"
I have a Linksys E3000, have had it successfully connected for three months now. Recently I attempted to connect my xbox 360 to the wifi and had issues connecting it. So I called ATT to obtain the PPPoE username and password, which they reluctantly gave me. Entered that into the xbox and still unable to connect, so I have given up on the xbox for the time being, I'll post that issue in a different forum. Where my issue is now is since contacting ATT the WPA2 password I set up for the router no longer works. I cannot access the router setup page, and I cannot add any new wifi devices. Although, all of the previously connected wifi devices are still connected to the router despite this issue. Is there anyway to make the old password work, or do I have to reset the router and start from scratch, and God forbid contact ATT again?

I can't get wireless access in the loft, and I want to put the AP up there, connected through Ethernet. I want to use the same SSID and security for the AP as on the router and repeater so I can roam around(!) View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to share my existing wireless connection over a WAP54G with the latest firmware, on Windows 7 on a laptop. Basically, the laptop is getting a wireless connection from my Sprint Card, but I need to share a wi-fi connection with an iPod I'll be using to validate tickets. Unfortunately, there is no option to share the wireless connection when I click on the Properties for the connection. When I put in my WiFi settings, the iPod is able to login to the AP, but it cannot obtain an IP. It keeps doing this. Same thing happens with my Samsung Epic which runs Android. I can access the AP manager, and can configure it. Have tried using no security, but still no dice. Even turned off the firewall.
I can surf the internet on the laptop, but I simply can't share the connection with the AP. This is really important as I'm trying to get it setup by next weekend!
