SSID is not being broadcast from an e3200. I split the wireless networks and assigned a new name for the 5Ghz band. The broadcast SSID button is enabled for both networks. (2.4 & 5). The idea is I want to stream video on the 5Ghz band. Nothing seems to see it though, TV other PCs, etc.
View 1 RepliesI changed the 5 GHZ SSID name using Cisco connect on my E3200 router as was expecting to see 2 available wireless networks on my laptop, but it seems that only the 2.4 GHZ is still broadcasting as it was before. When I connect to it with my laptop it shows it connecting with 802.11n, so I would think that my laptop would see the 5 GHz SSID if it was broadcasting. I am trying to take advantage of the dual band feature and connect the 5 GHZ to my blue ray player for real time video streaming.

View 2 Replies View RelatedSo I have this E1500 Router that worked fine for the past 5 months, then out of the blue, the wireless feature ceased to function... laptops were not being able to connect to the wireless, the router was also not broadcasting the SSID.So, here's what I have done so far:
1. Check the router software settings, all was good there.
2. Did a "hardware reset" pushing the red button. (now this solved the problem, BUT only for a day, when power is turned off for the night, the next day it's non-functional again. The cycle can be repeated daily, but its a pain to reset and set it up everyday)
3. Updated the Firmware, and this somehow solved the problem for 3 Days... and now it's back to non-functional, again out of the Blue.
Is the Router just busted and it's not remembering the settings?
House has 2 floors. I want to install 2 E3200, one on each floor, but both with the same SSID/Password, etc. so internet connection/streaming throughout the floor is seamless.
Both floors have network wall sockets ready and they all lead to the same modem/router so all devices plugged lead to the same network.
PS. both E3200 have been update to Firmware Version: 1.0.03
Recently, I bought the E3200, and tried to configure its ports for gaming. Yet, whenever I would hit save settings, it would say my settings were saved, then return me to the settings page. But the settings would be blank. I tried downloading firmware from the website (which should say September 28), yet it still says I am running the firmware from September 1st, even after I applied the upgrade and followed through with the 50 second reboot process.
So, I guess my final question for any tech savvy person out there is "What is wrong with my router/firmware?" I am running the browser config in the most recent Firefox on the same MacBook I used to install the router, and haven't changed any settings other than the SSID and password.
Several days ago I had to change my router. The new one works OK except that I can't get the PC to link into the wireless while the SSID isn't being broadcast. Having read that it is a good idea not to broadcast the SSID for security reasons, I thought I would try it!
I am running Windows 7 home Premium and the router is a Draytek Vigor 2710 using WPA2. I can see the network when the SSID isn't being broadcast, it just refuses to connect to it. As soon as I switch on the SSID it connects like a dream.
We've had a Cisco 881W set up in one of our remote offices for a while and the wireless has been fine. Yesterday I got a call saying that the wireless was no longer working.
I went over and it's true, the SSID is no longer broadcasting. I reloaded the router but it's still the same. I tried to get access to the embedded ap and I get this

Now I've not changed anything on the configuration since it went in and it was working before. Has the embedded ap died? The embedded ap is still showing as a component in show hardware.
I configured the device manually, not even using Express Setup or Express Security setup so... it is possible I missed something.Anyway, here's the problem. Although the SSID is configured as "AP1", this SSID does not appear among available networks on the client laptop.
The connection, configured in Group Policy for the client, should actually happen automatically, based on the SSID, but since the SSID is not being broadcast, that connection is failing as well.
The Aironet does appear among the available networks as "Other Network" and if I click on "connect" I am prompted to enter the SSID -> AP1
Although, unexplicably, an error message displays (Windows cannot connect to the network, or something to that effect), the laptop *does* connect once I close that window. Network access is complete and functional - I can ping other hosts, etc..
I'd post screenshots but not knowing what setting is missing or incorrect, I'd have to print dozens. So here's the sh run output of the AP obtained via telnet (just below). This is a test network so all information is "real" (nothing changed for privacy):

I am running the demo of the virtual WLC and have one 1142N AP connected to it. I have two WLAN's created and they are configured to broadcast their SSID's. However, when I look on my laptop or Android, I cannot see either of them. I checked the AP to see if it has the WLAN's on it and it does. I did this by going to Wireless -> Access Points -> Radios -> 802.11a/n AP Interfaces -> Details. Under Station Configuration Parameters -> Number of WLAN's, there are 2, which is correct. I had this demo running on VMware workstation and had some bridging issues with it and thought that was the issue. I now have it running on ESX5.1 and am still having this issue. I am at a loss as to what is causing this problem.

What did I do:
Installed the Licenses @ Freiday 12:00
@17:15 reload active WLC, wait till controller is up again (a few minutes pingable)
@17:25 force failover to first controller.
check a few SSIDs but not all, those who where check are ok.
@monday 07:00 clients complaining not seeing the SSID (some where connected)
i have 2 DIR 615 routers which both stop broadcasting SSIDS. Ive had only one connected at a time, thinking it was a bad router, but both behave the same way. Is this a known issue or something ? What happens is, after some time (it varies..sometimes 3hours..sometimes longer), the router stops broadcasting the ssid, and I can no longer connect any of my wireless devices to it. The hardwired connection does work (I have a server connected to it, and it appears to work).The only settings I have changed is my SSID name, and wpa2 password. I've set up one virtual server to port forward requests to the server. Thats it. Nothing complex or anything. And both routers behave the exact same way, meaing they stop broadcasting the SSID.

I have HREAP groups in Boulder, CO, Boston, MA, and Amsterdam, NL.
The LWAPPS act perfectly in the states (all AIR-LAP1142N-A-K9). The unit AIR-LAP1142N-E-K9 in Amsterdam will not allow any clients to attach unless the SSID broadcasting. I don't want to broadcast SSID. I have used iPhones and Intel 5100 series wlan cards. I don't get it. I have been working with Cisco for weeks. We have even replaced the LWAPP.
I am getting this from the ASA in Amsterdam:

I don't understand because the mtu on the outside interface is 1500 I guess "effective" is the key word which I missing here.
I have a "standart" settings of Cisco Aironet 1240AG with ENABLED broadcasting SSID, encryption is WPA2 (AES). I can see the wifi network (ssid) with windows system but with MAC OS 10.5 and MAC OS 10.7 also with iPhone the wifi is acting like hidden. But If I manually enter the wifi ssid and set the proper encryption the connection work normally. Also I have a separete windows partition on one MACbook and this windows 7 have no problem to see the SSID of my network. But If i Boot to the MAC OS the WIFI is "hidden" until the manually connection. (same problem on iphone, manuall connect with manually entered SSID is working well).
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a linksys WRT54G that has been bugging out a lot. It stops broadcasting the SSID briefly and won't start again until it reboots. Annoying enough problem on it's own, but not my primary concern.My concern now is that when I tried to upgrade the firmware to the latest version (which I presume was causing the problems) the router now is essentiallyunresponsive. The upgrade was successful according to the control panel site, but ever since the required reboot as part of the upgrade process the router hasn't worked properly. 1) The power light blinks constantly rather than staying lit.2) When I plug directly into it sometimes I get access to local networks and other times I don't (limited connectivity). But I never get access to the internet if it's plugged into it as well.3) When I try to go to the control panel site (through the 192.168.1.1) the site wont loadGranted this router is old, but it was working fine other than dropping the broadcast every once in a while. It did need a firmware upgrade, but the upgrade seems to have been a bad choice

View 4 Replies View RelatedI just bought a certified refurbished router. The model is WRT610N-RM. Where's what I've done:
1. Downloaded newest firmware from the site using old router, Then disconnected. Connected a lan cable to the new router. Powered up the router. Held down reset untill the light blinks. Went to the browser and typed 192.168.1.1. Entered password to go into router and upgraded firmware. 2. 5 Ghz Settings: Went to Wireless menu. Selected "manual", mode is "mixed" (If i chose N only for 5 Ghz, then It won't save my setting for internet security. Instead it will be "disable" no matter what". The rest was default. SSID is enabled. Then I set up the 2.5 Ghz. I have 3 other computers with N wireless card. Some others have G, however when I viewed available networks, I only see the 2.4 Ghz ssid. I tried to reboot and unplug power for 10 seconds, but no luck seeing the 5 Ghz.
I set up EA6500. All kinds of problems with anything on the 2.4 MHz band. My wireless desktop on the 5.0 MHz band was flawless. So I ran Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector (freeware). The router is transmitting two 2.4 MHz signals! One is the SSID I set up and named. The other one is identical in every way except that the BSSID is slightly different. It is a non-broadcasted SSID that shows up on every device as "Other Network." I was on the phone with Cisco Support tonite, and they were great as usual but had no answer. If you change the channel on the 2.4 MHz band, the shadow network also changes to the same channel (this blew the Tech's mind). We reset the router to factory settings and started over. They are calling me back tomorrow. This router has great features on paper, but so far, it has not delivered.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just purchased the E2500 and both bands are only broadcasting transfer rates at 144N instead of the advertised 300N. My old router broadcast at the 300N rate on the same ISP serving a range of devices. I contacted chat support and tried to discuss the issue for about 30-60 minutes before getting fed up with the lack of progress on the issue. The gist I got from the support agent was that I would only be able to achieve the 300N rate in N only mode instead of the mixed mode. I don't know the available modes of all the client devices that would need to connect but this would not be acceptable as my old router was capable of serving the range of devices while also giving the max rate of 300N to those devices that could utilize it. I verified the difference in transfer rates using [URL] with my old router giving the higher rates expected from 300N over 144N.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI am having no end of issues with this router since the upgrade to CCC. I don't want to downgrade because the reason I purchased the router was for the hopeful addition of more apps later on and the CCC.
My router has now suddenly decided to no longer broadcast N signals. My 2.4ghz network is set for mixed and my 5ghz is set for N Only. They are both set to auto channel and WPA2 Personal security and have been working since I purchased the router on Sunday.
Last night it spontaneously rebooted and that was that.
Both laptops (with N adapters) are seeing the 2.4ghz network as 802.11g and my 300Mbps notebook adapter is seeing the 5ghz network as 802.11a. InSSIDer is showing that both networks are now broadcasting at a max of 54Mbps.
I have tried rebooting the router multiple times. I have also tried unplugging it for 60 seconds. I have also attempted to force the 2.4ghz to 20Mhz and a more optimal (unused) channel. That doesn't work. I tried setting the 5ghz network to wide (40mhz) with an optimal channel. Same deal. Still seeing it as 802.11a.
My router has recently stopped broadcasting wifi, unfortunately it also no longer lets me use it as a router to get internet. if i plug directly into the modem i can get internet. but while using the router i get a computer symbol with an explanation mark on it

The 5 band still worked (my wife's phone could still connect to it no problem).My cell is a motorola Razr maxx and only works on the 2.4. I have an app (wifi analyzer) that allows me to see what is happening with my network - specifically when i would try to connect to my network - my network name would be listed but as soon as I hit "connect" it would disappear. Only to come back into the list saying "MYNETWORK saved, secured WPA/WPA2". Every time I would try to connect same thing. Contemporaneously, I would check the network activity using wifi analyzer and could see that roughly each time I tried to connect to my network - it would drop off completely.Ok - after scouring the internet - it does seem that a wireless router can stop broadcasting on the 2.4 and still have the 5 band work. (btw - my pc is hardwired through the router and is not affected).So I bought a new Linksys 3500 dual band router. When the wireless drops in order for me to be able to reconnect i have to restart the router itself. There are also random times where the Wi-Fi stops broadcasting altogether. I have a computer connected via Ethernet and it does not lose connection during these times. All the computers are running Windows 7 and the Router is up to date on firmware.
