My router has recently stopped broadcasting wifi, unfortunately it also no longer lets me use it as a router to get internet. if i plug directly into the modem i can get internet. but while using the router i get a computer symbol with an explanation mark on it
View 1 RepliesThis is my second E1000, the first one worked fine until the power supply flaked out and overheated. So I bought another E1000 and this one worked fine for about 6 months. Now it just quits broadcasting. It will work for a couple hours to 18 hours before it stops. I have to unplug it and wait 30 seconds, power up and it.

When the wireless drops in order for me to be able to reconnect i have to restart the router itself. There are also random times where the Wi-Fi stops broadcasting altogether. I have a computer connected via Ethernet and it does not lose connection during these times. All the computers are running Windows 7 and the Router is up to date on firmware.

I will have to continously turn off and on the wifi of the macbook to have it force to look at wifi networks. It will not be able to see also other wifi networks which are present in my neighbors which my windows 7 and other machines can see. After playing around with it I found that the macbook will connect to wifi only after I connect it momentarily via cable. I do this everytime I turn on my macbook.I just upgraded to a Macbook Pro running on Lion and the same thing happened. I tried the same solution of connecting first via cable but to my disappointment, would not see any wifi network including my neighbor's which again the other machines can see. So I am stuck with using cable for now.

No microwave, blue-tooth or other noise. 4 feet from the router and the signal is down to -90db. Take a few more steps away and the connection is lost.
View 2 Replies View Relatedmy linksys e1000 router compares pretty well to my modem when the Ethernet cable is hooked up. I get fast DL speeds above 50Mbps either way when the Ethernet cable is plugged into my computer. However, when I connect wirelessly, regardless of range I can't seem to DL any faster than 20Mbps. I went ahead and restored my factory defaults so that I could use Cicsco Connect and upgrade the firmware, but beyond that I don't know what settings to tweak.

2. I run my Cisco Connect app and it asks me to change my router admin password.
If I don't change it - I can not use Cisco Connect app.
If I provide my WiFi password then it changes my router admin password.
Maybe it was done to have a "simple" solution - 1 password for everything. But maybe its a bug because router admin password should be different from WiFi password fro security reasons.
I have a strange problem with my Linksys E1000. When I try to connect wireless, there is a network with an excellent signal, but it has the name "CiscoI1593" and it asks for a password which I don't know. My original network does not appear for some reason when I try to connect wirelessly. I do see my original network name when I use an ethernet cable through the E1000.
It's not possible, where I live, for this "CiscoI1593" network to belong to someone else, it just seemed like it renamed my network to this and also wants some different password.
I think this may be due to something I did. My internet occasionally cuts out and it's usually something wrong with the modem or router, so I typically unplug and press the reset button on both until it begins to work again. This is the first time i've had this problem though, and I have unplugged and pressed the reset button on my router many times.
There is also a button in the middle of the front of the router that looks like a refresh symbol, but I don't really know what it is, pushing it doesn't seem to do anything but make a solidly-on light become blinky.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been experiencing a strange, repeatable behavior with my Linksys E1000. I have several wireless and wired devices connected to my E1000:
Wired: TivoHD, Sony BluRay Player, Sony TV, Windows XP Wireless: Lenovo Laptop (Windows 7), HP Laptop (Windows 7), 3 iPods, 2 iPhones
When I try to copy large files (~ 4GB) from my (wired) Windows XP box to either of my (wireless) laptops, the Linksys drops my WiFi network -- but the wired connections continue to work (including internet access). Copying the same/similar file from a WiFi device to a wired device appears to work correctly, as does copying from WiFi to WiFi.
To be clear, my WiFi network "disappears" -- it is no longer listed as an available network (as opposed to just dropping internet connectivity for WiFi). Unplugging the router and plugging it back in brings my WiFi network back up.
I have been able to repeat this issue with multiple files over the course of several weeks, and it happens about 75% of the time (i.e., I am occassionally able to complete a file copy from wired LAN to WiFi).
A little bit of background: I resurrected an old Windows XP box and am using it for shared network storage. I copied about 400 GB of files from my laptops to the XP box (WiFi to wired) with no issues at all. Pulling the same files back from XP to my laptops (wired to WiFi) has been causing the issue described above.
The router was working fine when it was setup but was disconnected for a short while. There is now no recognition of the router and the install cd was misplaced...
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just bought a certified refurbished router. The model is WRT610N-RM. Where's what I've done:
1. Downloaded newest firmware from the site using old router, Then disconnected. Connected a lan cable to the new router. Powered up the router. Held down reset untill the light blinks. Went to the browser and typed 192.168.1.1. Entered password to go into router and upgraded firmware. 2. 5 Ghz Settings: Went to Wireless menu. Selected "manual", mode is "mixed" (If i chose N only for 5 Ghz, then It won't save my setting for internet security. Instead it will be "disable" no matter what". The rest was default. SSID is enabled. Then I set up the 2.5 Ghz. I have 3 other computers with N wireless card. Some others have G, however when I viewed available networks, I only see the 2.4 Ghz ssid. I tried to reboot and unplug power for 10 seconds, but no luck seeing the 5 Ghz.
I set up EA6500. All kinds of problems with anything on the 2.4 MHz band. My wireless desktop on the 5.0 MHz band was flawless. So I ran Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector (freeware). The router is transmitting two 2.4 MHz signals! One is the SSID I set up and named. The other one is identical in every way except that the BSSID is slightly different. It is a non-broadcasted SSID that shows up on every device as "Other Network." I was on the phone with Cisco Support tonite, and they were great as usual but had no answer. If you change the channel on the 2.4 MHz band, the shadow network also changes to the same channel (this blew the Tech's mind). We reset the router to factory settings and started over. They are calling me back tomorrow. This router has great features on paper, but so far, it has not delivered.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just purchased the E2500 and both bands are only broadcasting transfer rates at 144N instead of the advertised 300N. My old router broadcast at the 300N rate on the same ISP serving a range of devices. I contacted chat support and tried to discuss the issue for about 30-60 minutes before getting fed up with the lack of progress on the issue. The gist I got from the support agent was that I would only be able to achieve the 300N rate in N only mode instead of the mixed mode. I don't know the available modes of all the client devices that would need to connect but this would not be acceptable as my old router was capable of serving the range of devices while also giving the max rate of 300N to those devices that could utilize it. I verified the difference in transfer rates using [URL] with my old router giving the higher rates expected from 300N over 144N.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI am having no end of issues with this router since the upgrade to CCC. I don't want to downgrade because the reason I purchased the router was for the hopeful addition of more apps later on and the CCC.
My router has now suddenly decided to no longer broadcast N signals. My 2.4ghz network is set for mixed and my 5ghz is set for N Only. They are both set to auto channel and WPA2 Personal security and have been working since I purchased the router on Sunday.
Last night it spontaneously rebooted and that was that.
Both laptops (with N adapters) are seeing the 2.4ghz network as 802.11g and my 300Mbps notebook adapter is seeing the 5ghz network as 802.11a. InSSIDer is showing that both networks are now broadcasting at a max of 54Mbps.
I have tried rebooting the router multiple times. I have also tried unplugging it for 60 seconds. I have also attempted to force the 2.4ghz to 20Mhz and a more optimal (unused) channel. That doesn't work. I tried setting the 5ghz network to wide (40mhz) with an optimal channel. Same deal. Still seeing it as 802.11a.

The 5 band still worked (my wife's phone could still connect to it no problem).My cell is a motorola Razr maxx and only works on the 2.4. I have an app (wifi analyzer) that allows me to see what is happening with my network - specifically when i would try to connect to my network - my network name would be listed but as soon as I hit "connect" it would disappear. Only to come back into the list saying "MYNETWORK saved, secured WPA/WPA2". Every time I would try to connect same thing. Contemporaneously, I would check the network activity using wifi analyzer and could see that roughly each time I tried to connect to my network - it would drop off completely.Ok - after scouring the internet - it does seem that a wireless router can stop broadcasting on the 2.4 and still have the 5 band work. (btw - my pc is hardwired through the router and is not affected).So I bought a new Linksys 3500 dual band router. I installed it and it has worked fine....up until yesterday.Now I have the same problem. While my wife's phone still works on the 5 band it will not work on the 2.4. View 4 Replies View RelatedI changed the 5 GHZ SSID name using Cisco connect on my E3200 router as was expecting to see 2 available wireless networks on my laptop, but it seems that only the 2.4 GHZ is still broadcasting as it was before. When I connect to it with my laptop it shows it connecting with 802.11n, so I would think that my laptop would see the 5 GHz SSID if it was broadcasting. I am trying to take advantage of the dual band feature and connect the 5 GHZ to my blue ray player for real time video streaming.
View 9 Replies View RelatedSo I have this E1500 Router that worked fine for the past 5 months, then out of the blue, the wireless feature ceased to function... laptops were not being able to connect to the wireless, the router was also not broadcasting the SSID.So, here's what I have done so far:
1. Check the router software settings, all was good there.
2. Did a "hardware reset" pushing the red button. (now this solved the problem, BUT only for a day, when power is turned off for the night, the next day it's non-functional again. The cycle can be repeated daily, but its a pain to reset and set it up everyday)
3. Updated the Firmware, and this somehow solved the problem for 3 Days... and now it's back to non-functional, again out of the Blue.
Is the Router just busted and it's not remembering the settings?
I've had a refurbished EA2700 since a few days after Black Friday. I've had some issues with it since day one. Currently, it's not broadcasting an N signal, but instead an A signal, even though I have the 5 GHz network set to N-only, and the 2.4 GHz one to G-only. I have the latest firmware version.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI bought a DIR-655 (F/W v. 2.00NA) about 6 months ago. It worked well until a couple of weeks ago. Then it started to stop broadcasting WIFI signal without apparent reason. When it did so, I could still connect to it and internet with wired connection, but the WIFI scan does not show my SSID. If I reboot it (either through the admin interface, or just disconnect and reconnect the power), I would be able to reconnect to WIFI, but then WIFI will stop working again in about 8-10 hours. View 10 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a dir 655 router and it works fine but in after a while of using it, the wifi signal will stop broadcasting my other computers still work with the internet that are hard wired but the ones im using through the wifi signal will loose connection. So my fix has been unplugging the router and plugging it back in then it will broadcast my wifi again. I tryed leaving it plugged in and refreshing and rebooting my computers but that wont fix it until i disconnect the router and plug it back.

Its like there is a timer and it reset's the wireless connection after some time. I was unable to measure the time after which it resets but its happening too frequently causing multiple internet apps to fail example if I am downloading something it will fail as the internet connection is reset. The firmware I am running on the rotuer is 2.0.01 and I have configured DHCP on the LAN, I am experiencing this problem with 3 laptop that I use at home which uses both G and N networks.

I tried to reset it but I dont think it worked, since the power LED didnt blink as its supposed to do after holding reset for 10-15 seconds (or more!!).
