I have a Router WRT160N and need to connect an Access Point using a wireless bridge (i.e. cannot use cable between router and AP). Which Linksys Access Point model is recommended to use with this router?(No I dont want to use another WRT160N with DD-WRT!)
View 1 RepliesI have a FIOS setup with their Router/modem providing DHCP and Wireless routing. The problem I have is that I have a mix of older equipment and newer equipment. The newer equipment is capable of supporting WPA2, the older is not. I would like the benefits of WPA2, but still would like to at times be able to use the older equipment.My solution was to use a WRT160N v2 router that I had as an access point and it also gives me switch capabilities for wired systems as the FIOS router in on a different floor than the Linksys router. Wired access works just fine and the wireless worked fine until just recently.Since both routers have the same default IP addresses I changed the Linksys to a different static IP and turned off DHCP. I left all of the other defaults the same. I set up the Linksys for WEP and created the key for security. Everything worked fine for the better part of a year, but recently I am having problems where some of the computers cannot find the network or find it then lose connection.

I have a switch attached to the router and have the 160 attached to the switch. I can ping and access the 160, however there signal strength has not changed and is still extremely low. I know that the strength on the router is very good when I plug it in to the cable modem.

I would like to setup the WRT160N downstairs to wire the DirecTv box and PS3 to it. Then wirelessly connect to the E4200 upstairs where our modem is connected. Our LAN uses IP address in the range 10 with subnet 255.0.0.0, so I need to put the access point ino this subnet. The drop down box only allows me to set some predefined subnet masks, none of which matches ours. So how am I supposed to set this router in our LAN?

I purchased a commercial Engenius product (EAP9550) to amplify the wifi signal over to a secondary house (about 180 ft away, traveling through 3 walls). Configured as an access point, the EAP9550 received and showed signal, but there was zero connectivity. The tech support at Engenius has advised me to configure the EAP9550 as an access point. My linksys router continues to deliver wireless signal for its range, but is only showing (not giving) full connectivity to the secondary access point.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI was unable to access the web admin on my WRT160n v3 w/ latest firmware this morning. Reset config to defaults & was able to get in. Enabled HTTPS access & disabled HTTP access & was right back where I started; reset to defaults again & left both boxes checked. Can access via HTTP, but HTTPS requests get refused/reset.
The reason I needed access was that when I booted up my laptop this morning, my wireless card wasn't picking up an IP address via WIFI, only worked via ethernet, so I need to see what was going on there — several reboots of the router didn't fix, nor has it fixed the HTTPS access problem described above.
I am cascading a wrt160n (R1) and a wrt160nl (R2) which are hooked up LAN port to LAN port (via a DLink power line adapter). R1 is hooked up via dhcp to the internet. View 3 Replies View RelatedI've worked on it and read on it for almost 2 days and I'm stuck. I'm using a Win 7 Pro desktop that is hardwired and a Win 7 Home Premium laptop wireless. Both current on all updates.
My Comcast modem is hooked into a WRT160N that is hardwired to the desktop PC and to a WRT400N which is being used as an access point. Both routers have the latest firmware. Both routers have the same SSID, security and password but use different channels. (2 & 6) Internet works perfect both wired and wireless through both routers.
The homegroup has been set up through the desktop but I've removed and added homegroups on both machines multiple times. My problem doesn't go away. The homegroup works when the laptop is either wired or wireless using the WRT160N. It will not work at all through the WRT400N. I can be in the room with the WRT160N hooked to the homegroup, when I move to the other router so the wireless switches to the WRT400N, it drops the homegroup. The internet stays connected just fine as I move back in forth so the IDs and security has to be correct. Once the laptop drops the homegroup, it can't find it until I go back and connect to the main router.
Both machines have IPv6 addresses, auto discovery is on.
I also have an XP machine hooked to the main router. The desktop can see it but it also is invisible to anything using the WRT400N router. I also made sure all PCs are using the same Network ID with no password.
It seems to me that neither Homegroup or Home Network are passing between the two routers since everything works fine using just one router.
We have a home use WRT160N router linked to a PC desktop and two wireless laptops, Yesterday bought a new I-Phone, but could not link to my network (entered the security key many times). I accidentally connected to computer fix it firm that linked to my PC and wanted a large sum to fix the problem which he said was due to large number of temp?? internet files and once removed he would change the IP address of the desktop computer? Is this diagnosis logical and can I do it on my own. The router is definetely working - both laptops access the internet and I was recently able to hook up a Samsung Blu-Ray player using the same security code I used for the I-Phone.

With an RDP app, i can access my work network from multiple public locations from my iPad. At home, on my laptop, I start the cisco client then use the windows rdp, presto i'm in my work network. At home on my iPad I can activate the VPN, but I can not connect with rdp. I spoke with linksys support tonight they had me add port 3389 to port range triggering and disable the firewall on the home router. This didn't solve the problem. I am using a newer wireless router but would like to use my older wrt54g router as an access point (wired and wireless) at the other end of my house. how to do it, and what the specific settings should be, especially the security settings. I can connect the wrt54g via a homeplug (cannot run a LAN cable). I had previously tried an Aztech wireless homeplug but found the security feature to be worthless and everyone was able to "break-in".
