View 2 Repliesmy computer randomly disconnects from my modem and will not reconnect until I restart my computer (do not need to restart modem). When I check the modem, it always is still running. The lights on the modem do the exact same thing whether the internet is working or not. The disconnection is entirely random. Sometimes it will disconnect immediately, sometimes it will take up to a few hours. I do not have a router hooked up to the modem, and the only other thing the modem is hooked up to is our tv. But even when the tv box is off, we still randomly disconnect.
On the previous forum thread that I read, some of the comments asked for the person to paste their entire ipconfig and their entire ping list from command prompt I will post that below: [code] Could it possibly be a virus? I am currently performing a virus scan using Microsoft Security Essentials. I will report the results of that tomorrow, seeing that it will take several (up to 10) hours to finish and it is nearly midnight of me posting this.I should also note that whenever I unplug my Ethernet cord it gives me a symbol that looks like this other than the regular disconnect with the red "X" over the wire symbol.
I have a Sprint USB cellular modem 3G/4G. Are there any devices that will let me plug the cellular modem and use it as a hotspot without a computer?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm sure that the modem/router is bridged which I think it means that it is sent to pass through the port number requests. What I did was go into my Linksys router, setup the port I want to forward to my 3389 (RDP port on the specific machine). Let's say port 45000. In the past, before Windstream took over and I had DSL with a local Telco, I would just enter my IP address and port number and I was in to the machine. Example: 171.234.54.191:45000 That would be the IP address of my modem (which just passed though the requests) to the router. Now when I do the same thing I just get an error message that looks like this: It seems that the modem/router is not passing though the request to the router. This is why I didn't want their new router/modem which the HAVE to charge $120 for worse quality machine than what I already had.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a new router (ASUS RT-N10)and It is asking me to direct connect my cable modem to my computer, and then find my MAC address via command prompt, and clone it to the new router.I can get to my command prompt, the problem lies in windows 7 and vista's (or mine) inability to realize that my network card is directly connecting to the modem. (No internet connection available, doesn't think anything is connected). I have tried on multiple machines to try and find my modem's mac address but it simply is not working.I want to know if I can find the mac address through the old router, or what I need to do to have windows 7 recognize I'm directly connecting the modem to the PC.
View 3 Replies View RelatedYesterday when I got home from college my computer randomly could not connect properly to my wireless modem. It tells me the SSID etc but when I connect to it, it becomes an unidentified network and has no internet connectivity. This problem only occurs on my laptop via wifi, wifi still works fine on other computers and my phone so I assume it is a problem on my laptops end. Also my laptop can connect to other wireless networks, ie my schools public network, and they work fine. I'm running windows 7 home premium.
View 8 Replies View RelatedSo i have AT&T dsl internet. but whenever i connect my computer wirelessly to the modem and get on the internet it repeatedly loses dsl connection every some odd minutes. the dsl light on my modem turns off, then blinks red, then fixes itself for five or so minutes until the cycle restarts. ive tried 2 wireless usb adapter and 1 internal wireless card. none have worked at all. but if its wired with an ethernet cord it works fine. we also have 2 other laptops that connect wirelessly and work fine. i dont understand what would cause this solely on my computer. ive also had AT&T come to my house and look at it and they said its fine, the issue is somewhere in my computer messing with the modem.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy computer ethernet port recognizes any modem but will not recognize any wireless routers. My ISP (DSL) spent 3 hours on the phone with me and can't figure it out. I have also contacted Gateway, figuring it must be my computer. I make money on the side fixing computers, so I do have a good idea as to what is what. I run Win7 on a Gateway DX4822 with Intel Pentium Dou-core. I have searched and searched for months and have found nothing. I have asked this question on various forums (including Microsoft) and still nothing.
I have wireless connectivity with a USB 2.0 WAN antenna. I also have a blu-ray player, XBox 360, and Wii all hooked up through this router. The player and XBox are wired, the Wii and a printer is wireless.I have had all things disconnected while trying to solve this issue, thinking that somehow there wasn't enough juice getting through. The cable works. I have tried resets, powerdowns, restarts, system recovery (at one point for a few days it did work as I shared internet from a friend upstairs from me), system restore, many different wireless routers AND modems. With the router connected, the ethernet port light does NOT come on. With the modem directly connected, the light DOES come on. Other computers/laptops in the house work wired into the router.
I have a DSL connection and obviously it coming through the phone line. Is there any kind of software that I can use to make landline calls through my computer? The DSL modem is ZXDSL. View 3 Replies View RelatedI want to acccess my office computer from Home PC.I have ZTE DSL Modem + Wireless Router and got new Static IP, so how to configure Static IP From BSNL.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWe have a Comcast business class cable modem with a static IP address. There are two devices hardwired to it; a server and a Linksys WRT610N, The server is hardwired to it with port forwarding set for ports 21, 80 and 5900. It works perfectly and can be reached as intended by the outside world but not by our own network. Our Linksys WRT610N is hardwired to the modem. All computers on the wireless network see each other and can access the internet perfectly. So all seems well enough. BUT, no computer on our network can reach our server. Using the domain name or VNC connections from inside our system results in time outs and no connection.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI can usually figure stuff out for myself when it comes to computers, but to be honest I'm baffled. My HP 620 notebook wireless LAN has completely disappeared. I can no longer select anything to do with a wireless network, and it has also disappeared from the HP Wireless Assistant (which only has bluetooth on it - disabled by windows device manager?).
Anywho I did a quick internet search and it seems a pretty common problem with the HP series, and followed some advice they gave...
1) Did all the basic things (e.g. try and find a wireless network right click enable etc.)
2) Uninstalled/Reinstalled wireless assistant
3) Did some power off 30 second BIOS reset or something (literally have no idea what this is just followed advice)
4) I BELIEVE (note that this is way past my knowledge of computers) that I uninstalled the network adapter devices and reinstalled them on restart.
5) Finally I literally just took my laptop apart and took out, cleaned and replaced the wireless thingy
So all of this had no affect on my wireless LAN mysteriously disappearing. For those unfamiliar with the HP 620 it has a wireless on/off toggle button which is bright blue when working. Now however it is permanently orange and wireless has completely disappeared.
A couple days my Internet just disappeared.Every time i go to connect to the Internet from any device net gear does not show up. I restarted evrything many times but no luck.

Before this, my wireless connection was working just fine and after everything was complete with the win 7 installation a wireless connection cannot be detected. However, plugging an ethernet cable in allows me to access the internet just fine. I can also use the internet wireless'ly via my laptop, so its not a problem with my actual internet connection. After reinstalling I put my Gigabyte motherboard CD into the computer which ran some auto installations, one of which being a driver 'Realtek 8111/8168 LAN driver for gigabit (Win 7).' This didnt make any difference and I still could not access wireless internet. View 5 Replies View RelatedIt all started when I wanted to add security to my wireless router (Linksys wireless-g 2.4ghz, 802.11g). Every time my IT guy tried to add the security, the tabs to enter the info would disappear. Since we'd been having trouble with this router for years, I bought a Linksys E4200 wireless-N router. He set it up, my son's laptop works beautifully (no he didn't do anything to his laptop except turn it on, and yes, I am sending this message via my son's laptop). Both of my laptops, however, are a mess. The IP address has disappeared (0.0.0.0), and after running all night, still cannot be found. My IT guy is absolutely baffled as to why this is happening. Before the router installation could be completed, he had to disable my Dell wireless network. He restarted it after the router connection was completed. Everything looks fine, but neither of my laptops will connect to the server, because THERE IS NO IP ADDRESS FOR EITHER OF THEM.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI had a network connection to the main family computer that just completely disappeared after I got back on it. It had been on all day because it was defragmenting, but a few minutes after I got back on it (I had just sat down in the chair and sent a couple messages on a chat I was in and dismissed an "Oh, Windows Media player found another WMP on main computer! Wooo!" notification) and then it was gone.
I assumed the internet had crashed so I gave it a couple hours, no internet. I stayed up longer waiting, writing, playing some games, but nothing. I didn't check the Network computers thing until now.
Usually even when the internet crashes the main computer still shows up in the computer list but it was just mine then. It seems like it totally dropped the connection and it can't find it again when I try to create a new one. It's not like I watch p~rn or download anything I'm not supposed to download so...
And the network icon doesn't have a big red no connection at all x - It's just the two computers, no world icon, no x. I've tried booting in safe mode with networking, nothing, 'netsh winsock reset catalog' + 'netsh int ip reset.log, nothing, create new connection, nothing, and repair memory problems, nothing. : Microsoft Security Essentials found no viruses after a full scan, and it had been updated hours before the internet had a tantrum. I recently uninstalled Malwarebytes because according to a friend its update crashed her computer so I have no other virus scanner to use.
Oh, I'm runnning a Windows Vista Home Premium. Mine is genuine, it came with the computer, but my father had the bright idea to use -my- Vista disc to install it on the main PC, so it's all 'rawr not genuine' though as far as I know, my father's W7 laptop is still running just dandy.
We use a D'Link router, and it's worked fine until now. I don't actually know how my computer is connected, I'm pretty sure it's hardwired to the modem or router, but my father's is wireless. I've been searching like mad for the router's wireless USB thing, but it seems to have walked out the door.
My Network is gone from my list of available networks on my MacBook. I use s NETGEAR router, my network name is simply "NETGEAR" i have never named it anything else since installing this over 4 years ago. I have unplugged the power cord, waiting several minutes before plugging it back in. Also tried unplugging both the cable and the power cord. The router has no small "pin hole" that i can see in order for me to try to re-set it this way. It has literally disappeared from my Mac. Do i need to re-install using my NETGEAR cd?

The internet will now only work if I plug the cable in, which is no good as I share a flat with 2 other girls and if I do that, they lose their connection. I don't understand whats happened. View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently obtained a 2901 router running 15.2(2)T to replace my old 877 which was running 15.1(4)M1. The 2901 is humming along quite nicely but I have had difficulty configuring one feature which was working fine on the 877. The router needs to be a PPTP client to a hosted VPN service. On the 877, I had it configured like this: [code] I then had a dialer interface to actually set up the connection, and some PBR to control what went over the VPN. All well and good, and it worked fine. But on the 2901, when I try to configure the same thing, there is no such command as "protocol pptp" -- the only option is protocol l2tp.Was PPTP support deprecated somwhere between 15.1 and 15.2, or does the 2901 itself not support it for some reason? Obviously I understand that l2tp is superior to pptp, but at the moment this is my only option.
