Cisco Firewall :: 5060 PBX Behind ASA Got Hacked

Nov 13, 2012

We have a costumer who has an asterix PBX behind an ASA i configured, the PBX i did not configure, we have several customers with the same setup. Today we have noticed that there PBX got hacked and was making calls to very expensive phone extensions. The guy who configured the PBX is saying that its the ASA who got hacked. In my opinion it is not the ASA that got hacked but i think there is something going on on the internal network.

They from th PBX says when he scans the IP of the customer who got hacked he sees port 5060 sip is open. but in the ASA ther is no port forwarding on that port, how is this possible?I also scanned it myself and it says port 5060 is open, which is weird because there is no port forwarding on port 5060.

How Can A Public Ip Be Traced Back To Private Ip

Mar 1, 2012

How can a public ip be traced back to private ip. for instance if the ip is 5.5.5.5 it is traced as

4.4.4.4
2.2.2.2
1.1.1.1
10.10.10.10
5.5.5.5

I thought it could be VPN but then u still need a public facing ip , or can it be the fact that the public ip is router to nat and from nat to internet but then 10 range will need to be converted back to public which does not happen as from the private 10.10.10.10 it moves to the next router which is an isp device and not clients one?

Creating A Private Network Within A Larger LAN

Mar 16, 2013

I'm starting college in the fall and will be living in the dorms on campus. I want to have a "private network" setup within the university's network in my dorm room so my and my roommate's phones and iPads can still find my Apple TV, file sharing and network drives are still possible, and I can easily set up my network printer. Obviously, I don't want to lose Internet connectivity. Can I use NAT to accomplish this without losing Internet connection through the university?

how the sysops will hate me if they find me, I know this. It's not for malicious use, only for ease of use of my devices.

This may be totally off base, that's why I'm asking if this will work before I try it. I have an old WRT54G I would like to use if its capable, if not I'll buy a new one but I'm trying to avoid that. Here's what I'm thinking:

My router plugged into the University's Ethernet port in my room (for this setup do I use a LAN port or the WAN port on the router?) DHCP disabled, all devices static IP On the "Advanced Routing" tab: "Router" mode, not "gateway" mode What should my destination LAN ip be? Gateway? LAN & Wireless or WAN?

Switch connected to the router

Devices connected to the switch or connected wirelessly Should my gateway and DNS on each device be the host address assigned to my router?

Cisco :: Same Private IPs At Two Remote Sites?

Feb 25, 2011

I'm looking to put together a solution for a customer that wants to "bridge" between their current office and a new office space they have rented. I know how to set up a site-to-site VPN between two sites with different private IP ranges. For example, site A is 192.168.1.0/24 and site B is 192.168.2.0/24. But is it possible to make both sites appear as a single IP block? This way, systems could be moved one by one without renumbering.I am guessing there might be a way to tunnel the layer 2 traffic and make it work, but I am concerned about broadcast services being broken. I am using non-cisco platforms so I am just looking for pointers on the protocols that might be used so I can do further research.

Protocols / Routing :: Running Out Of Private IP's?

Nov 1, 2011

Our network at work is running out of IP addresses to lease and we are looking at the best solution of providing more addresses for clients machines on the network. What I was hoping to do was configure our Wireless APs through the switches (NetGear GS724T/P) so they provide a different IP to wireless clients on a separate range but still allow full communication with other devices on our network such as servers etc so they can access resources and services as normal.Currently our standard laptops connect automatically to our AP if in range and most of these are also connecting via Ethernet as well so each laptop is being leased two IP addresses which is a waste. The current config for clients is on the range 10.7.1.1-254, subnet 255.255.254.0Servers/Printer and networking devices on 10.7.0.1-254, subnet 255.255.254.0DHCP is controlled via Windows Server2003 DC

How do I change the provate lan to, for example, ..9.n so I can use the ...2.n net? I'm running with the ..0.n now, just fine, but, I VPN into office and primary net there is ..0.n and so is confusing with IP shortcuts/conflicts. how to make the change?

Cisco Firewall :: ASA 8.4 NAT Internet IP To Private

Mar 22, 2013

I have a server with IP address 10.10.10.10/24. I have two ISPs and their public IP address subnets are 1.1.1.0/25 and 2.2.2.0/25. The gateways are ASA 8.0 and ASA 8.4.I am getting rid of the 1.1.1.0/25 ISP. However I will need the Internet users to be able to access the server via both ISPs at the same time. The only way I can think of is to do policy based dynamic PAT so the Internet user IPs will be translated into an internal IP. Idealy, users connecting on 1.1.1.10 will be PAT to 10.1.1.10 and users connecting to 2.2.2.10 will be PAT to 10.2.2.10. When the server responds to them, it will then route to the correct ASA..

Verizon issues a Private IP ( 192.168.100.X) the far end device terminating the VPN has a public ip of 183.172.22.XX , what kind of NAT translation do I need to make this work ?  Also does Cisco have any good configuration examples for VPN Failover setups for Cisco 2911's?

Servers :: Access Web Server On Private Network

Jun 14, 2012

I have a VPN with a number of servers where we are doing some software development. We have a TFS, Web, App and SQL Server etc.. inside a private LAN which is accessible via VPN. Nothing inside the private network can access outbound. However, I would like to open the Web Server on the private LAN to be able to be accessed via http(s).As we develop the software I want to access the site from the internet. It's a fairly simple setup.DSL > Modem > Home Lan. On the Home Lan I have a Server (2 ethernets) connected to the modem router and the other card to a hub. This server acts as the VPN server, DHCP etc.. for the Private LAN.The web server I want to be able to access from outside is the one inside the private network. Any recommendations?fyi, I'm not a networking guy, I hacked my way through setting up the private network through a number of great YouTube videos, that saved me a lot of time.
