SBG6580 Private LAN Subnet Conflict

Jun 28, 2012

I have a Motorola SBG6580 wireless gateway/router and am happy with it in general. I had a 192.168.2.n subnet with old Linksys but I find that I cannot change the MOT from its pre-set 192.168.0.n net to the because it conflicts with a "private LAN" in the same range. How do I change the provate lan to, for example, ..9.n so I can use the ...2.n net? I'm running with the ..0.n now, just fine, but, I VPN into office and primary net there is ..0.n and so is confusing with IP shortcuts/conflicts. how to make the change?

LAN Shares Dropping / Slow On Private Subnet

Mar 11, 2012

The shares on the LAN constantly drop(for 4-5 seconds usually) or slow down and then speed up again. This only happens on the PCs using the private subnet but the internet is fine. We don't have any problems with shares on the public subnet though.Private subnet goes through a proxy server to reach the internet.Recently we had an internet outage in the building and suddenly shares weren't dropping or running slow anymore.

Cisco Routers :: Unable To Use Dynamic DNS From Private Subnet On RV110W

Mar 6, 2013

I have RV110W connected in private network, I have redirected pptp port from adsl modem to the RV110W and VPN works OK. DDNS on the adsl modem is not available.I need to use Dynamic DNS functionality on my RV110W. The device supports several DDNS services (, Dyn, and For all but TZO the public "Internet IP Address" shows as, which also gets auto registered with the DDNS service.I have tested this with free account and this is obviously undesired behavior. I need the router to register my real public IP.For TZO it shows the proper public IP, but TZO service is no longer available on

SBG6580 Low Signal From Home Routers

Sep 11, 2012

I have a broadband Motorola SBG6580 cablemodem that feeds internet into my main home computer via a cable. The modem is also a wireless router. The modem is in an "office-room" inside my house. The main bedroom is located about 25 meters, with two bedrooms in between the office-room and the main bedroom.I broke a leg so I figured I could work on bed, but I have this problem: the signal from the motorola wireless router is so low at the main bedroom that the connection drops all the time. Oddly (or maybe not), I can see like 10 other access points, presumably from my neighbors, all with a full signal. And I live in a "full-floor" apartment so I only have neighbors above and below.I connected a linksys WRT54G2 that I have and I get the exact same problem.

It has wireless built-in; however, I don't want to use it. Is it possible to use this modem and leave the wireless off? Or does the wireless automatically turn-on whenever the modem is on? With all that said, is the built-in wireless any good? I recently purchased an ASUS RT-56 and would prefer using it to some built-in system.

Adding Belkin N Wireless F5D8236-4 To Motorola SBG6580

Jan 7, 2012

Looking to add my belkin wireless router to Sbg6580 router as an access point to extend wireless. I've read up enough to understand the fundamentals - LAN to LAN, changing IPs, turn off DCHP etc. - but am confused by a couple of things.

First, belkin faqs says to Open the router page, click on "use as access point" (I get that) "Select Enable" (I also get that), and then it goes on to say "This will give you the options to set the IP Address and Subnet mask for the router.**These settings should match your existing network settings; by default the IP address will be set to and the Subnet mask will be". Does this mean to set the IP address of the Belkin to that of the Motorola (which is on this page?

Then the FAQ goes on to say access the LAN and "change the IP Address to something such as or you can use**As long as the first three sets of numbers match your existing network, you will be fine". I thought the LAN IP address should fall outside the DCHP range of the Motorola? So if the DHCP range for the Motorola is through then I'd assign to the Belkin?

Windows 7 IP Address Conflict With Itself?

Jan 29, 2013

I've got a wireless network, consisting of two Windows 7 PCs, a wireless printer, an Android tablet and an iPhone. The PCs are always on the network; the other devices only connect occasionally. The router is a Dynamode R-ADSL-C4-W-G1. IP addresses are assigned by DHCP, and both PCs are set up to get an IP address automatically. Now and again, I get an error message on my PC, saying Windows has detected an IP address conflict on the network. I looked in the System Event Log, and found the following message: Quote:The system detected an address conflict for IP address with the system having network hardware address [hex number here]. Network operations on this system may be disrupted as a result.

When I checked in the router settings, I found had been assigned to the other PC, which also has the hardware address given in the error message - I'm not sure how that constitutes a conflict! When I get this error message, I never encounter any connectivity problems - i.e. both machines can still access the internet.

Can IP Conflict Cause Network For Computers Other Than Devices That Have Same IP

Jul 25, 2012

Can an IP conflict cause network issues for computers other than the devices that have the same IP? I have resolved an issue where someone was testing a device on our network and assigned a static IP that was already in use by one of our printers. Specifically, I am curious if the IP conflict could have caused issues with mapped network drives for other computers. I just seemed to have network gremlins for the 2 days of the IP conflict.

Cisco DHCP Conflict Log Filling Up?

Mar 15, 2011

I have a Cisco 3750 running DHCP. We have a lot of guest users on the network, so the DHCP conflict table fills up quickly, and when it does, users can not get on the wireless network. I have to go in and clear the DHCP conflict log. (clear ip dhcp conflict *) and the problem is resolved. I see in the Cisco documentation if you don't have a DHCP database agent configured you should disable that log. I just want to make sure what the steps are and the ramifications are of disabling that log. Would IP address's still be freed up to use on the network? It also said about enabling 'ip dhcp ping' so DHCP will ping the address first to see if it's available.
