Oct 2, 2012Since the new cable company won't let me use my SB6141, I need to pick up a new cable modem. One that works with Oceanic TWC is the new SBG6580. It has wireless built-in; however, I don't want to use it. Is it possible to use this modem and leave the wireless off? Or does the wireless automatically turn-on whenever the modem is on? With all that said, is the built-in wireless any good? I recently purchased an ASUS RT-56 and would prefer using it to some built-in system.

Jan 7, 2012Looking to add my belkin wireless router to Sbg6580 router as an access point to extend wireless. I've read up enough to understand the fundamentals - LAN to LAN, changing IPs, turn off DCHP etc. - but am confused by a couple of things.
First, belkin faqs says to Open the router page, click on "use as access point" (I get that) "Select Enable" (I also get that), and then it goes on to say "This will give you the options to set the IP Address and Subnet mask for the router.**These settings should match your existing network settings; by default the IP address will be set to 192.168.2.254 and the Subnet mask will be 255.255.255.0". Does this mean to set the IP address of the Belkin to that of the Motorola (which is 192.168.0.1) on this page?
Then the FAQ goes on to say access the LAN and "change the IP Address to something such as 192.168.2.47 or you can use 192.168.2.200.**As long as the first three sets of numbers match your existing network, you will be fine". I thought the LAN IP address should fall outside the DCHP range of the Motorola? So if the DHCP range for the Motorola is 192.168.0.2 through 192.168.0.250 then I'd assign 192.168.0.251 to the Belkin?

The modem is the telephony Arris one, but the problem is that I already have a Motorola SBG6580 but can not use that for my wireless laptop options. Feb 6, 2012As far as im aware the current set up of the network is two desktops connected to a router and the router is connected to a switch (i didnt assemble the network) Now what im trying to do is get onto the router so i can change the SSID for a wirless connection.i was told by the ISP i was to change my IP, DG and subnet from DHCP to a static setup they gave me, which i did. but when i go into the browser to access the net (and ultimatly put the IP into the adress bar to access the properties) the net connection fails and i cant get on. when i change back to DHCP the net works again but i cant configure the router with this IP because the company has forgoten the admin/password.

Dec 6, 2012I have an issue where I cannot get clients to change SSID. I have two SSID, one WPA2 secure, one open guest. The secure is locally switched via Flexconnect and the guest is centrally switched. Both of them work. I have been able to test this and both work as intended. The problem is that once you connect to one of them, either secure or guest, you cannot then change to the other. The only way to change is to delete the dhcp entry from the scope and then do it.
Fast SSID change is enabled. I also have debug client output from when the client fails when you try to switch which I will include below. I also pulled some wireshark captures and those show me that the DHCP ack packets are trying to give the client the ip address from the incorrect/previous scope. So basically it's like FAST SSID change is not working and the client is never being disassociated properly??
I am totally stumped and even though the client will most likely not be switched between SSID that often I would still like to know the solution.

Mar 30, 2011I have an established wireless network, using a wired Dell desktop (XP), wireless HP G70-250US notebook (Vista), wireless HP Officejet 650 E709n printer, and Belkin N600 router. To make a long story shorter, both my cable company and Belkin were involved to set up the router a few months ago, and I was assigned an SSID and password that I now want to change. I've received emails from Belkin on changing it at the router - but when it comes to my notebook computer, how to establish a network - I'd like to know how to change the SSID and password in an already-established network, once I've made changes with the router. I'm assuming this is possible? It is my understanding that I don't need to make any changes with my wired desktop, other than to use it when making the router changes? I'm a little familiar with the network configuration setting process with my printer, so am pretty sure I can handle that.
