Cisco :: 3502i - IPads Change Networks (SSID) Automatically

Sep 12, 2012

We are using cisco 3502i AP's and 5508 controler. We have two SSID's. "SA Wireless" and "Guest Wireless". SA Wireless is WPA2 enterprise security and the "Guest Wireless" is open. The iPads will disconnect from "SA Wireless" and join "Guest Wireless" at random. Is there a way to force them to stay on "SA Wireless" and only change if you actually tell the iPad to change?

Connecting Automatically To Open Networks?

Sep 12, 2011

My boss's old Windows XP laptop was able to connect to open wireless networks automatically so he never had to click that icon on the bottom right to check signals or anything like that. Is there anything like that I could set up on Windows 7?

I realize that this is not secure and very silly. I suggested choosing the best and trusted networks available. My boss, however, doesn't want to accept that he should have to go through more steps with newer technology. So in this case, I'd just like to give him what he's asking for.

Cisco Wireless :: 867vae - Multiple SSID And Networks Without 802.1q Trunk

Feb 3, 2013

I currently have an 867vae router and a 1131ag ap setup with 2 vlans and 2 ssid's. I am in the process of baby proofing the house and would like to use the cisco plsk400 homeplug system to relocate my wap. I use 2 networks to seperate and filter the kids internet traffic from my own. It also allows me to shut the kids vlan when they shouldnt be on the internet.

As far as i can tell the plsk400 homeplug doesnt support 802.1q.... so is there any way i can keep the seperate networks/SSID's and the abilty to filter and turn off one of them at will without a trunked link to the router?

Can't Get To The Properties To Change The SSID

Feb 6, 2012

As far as im aware the current set up of the network is two desktops connected to a router and the router is connected to a switch (i didnt assemble the network) Now what im trying to do is get onto the router so i can change the SSID for a wirless connection.i was told by the ISP i was to change my IP, DG and subnet from DHCP to a static setup they gave me, which i did. but when i go into the browser to access the net (and ultimatly put the IP into the adress bar to access the properties) the net connection fails and i cant get on. when i change back to DHCP the net works again but i cant configure the router with this IP because the company has forgoten the admin/password.

Cisco Wireless :: WLC 5508 Cannot Change SSID

Dec 6, 2012

I have an issue where I cannot get clients to change SSID.  I have two SSID, one WPA2 secure, one open guest.  The secure is locally switched via Flexconnect and the guest is centrally switched.  Both of them work.  I have been able to test this and both work as intended.  The problem is that once you connect to one of them, either secure or guest, you cannot then change to the other.  The only way to change is to delete the dhcp entry from the scope and then do it.

Fast SSID change is enabled.  I also have debug client output from when the client fails when you try to switch which I will include below.  I also pulled some wireshark captures and those show me that the DHCP ack packets are trying to give the client the ip address from the incorrect/previous scope.  So basically it's like FAST SSID change is not working and the client is never being disassociated properly??

I am totally stumped and even though the client will most likely not be switched between SSID that often I would still like to know the solution.

HP G70-250US Notebook - How To Change Network Name (SSID) And Password

Mar 30, 2011

I have an established wireless network, using a wired Dell desktop (XP), wireless HP G70-250US notebook (Vista), wireless HP Officejet 650 E709n printer, and Belkin N600 router. To make a long story shorter, both my cable company and Belkin were involved to set up the router a few months ago, and I was assigned an SSID and password that I now want to change. I've received emails from Belkin on changing it at the router - but when it comes to my notebook computer, how to establish a network - I'd like to know how to change the SSID and password in an already-established network, once I've made changes with the router. I'm assuming this is possible? It is my understanding that I don't need to make any changes with my wired desktop, other than to use it when making the router changes? I'm a little familiar with the network configuration setting process with my printer, so am pretty sure I can handle that.

Change SSID Password On Dell Wireless 1395 WLAN Mini Card

Jun 11, 2012

I had to default my wireless router " Netgear WGR14V6" and since then I haven't been able to connect with my wireless card. I can physically connect to it with a cable but I can't access it with the wireless card. When I look at the properties it says that it is working fine but I can't seem to find where to change the "SSID and the security phrase". Usually when it is up and running it has a status button and when you click on it there is a tab that you click on and it shows you the SSID and the rest, but now since it is not connected there isn't anything that I can find to change this.

Cisco Wireless :: 6509 IPads Not Staying Connected To APs

Apr 19, 2012

All, I am the wireless administrator for a rather large school district in Oregon, and we are seeing numerous issues with iPad's connecting and staying connected to our lightweight AP's in an HREAP configuration.  Our iPad carts have about 20 iPads a piece and an AIR-LAP1142 supporting them.  We have no issues with getting non-Apple products to connect and stay connected, but for some reason the iPads are creating a major issue.  We currently run 8 4400 WISM blades via two 6509's, running code 7.0.116.0.Our AP's are running 7.0.116.0 as their primary software and their IOS is 12.4(23c)JA2.

Cisco WAN :: WRVS4400N - Setup VLAN For School Network For Student IPads / IPods?

Jul 10, 2011

I work at a small private school that is going to implement about 20 ipads for classes. Students bring their ipods and iphones and are connecting to the existing unsecured wireless access points and are taking up the remaining IP addresses in the DHCP scope. I am running out of IP addresses and was wondering if I could set up a VLAN using the Cisco WRVS4400N for all of these wireless devices the students will be using. I plan to pull out all unsecured wireless AP's and replace with what ever solution we come up with. I will need about 6 access points/routers to cover the entire school. There is not a lot of money for technology and the ipods were donated. I have never set up a VLAN before. Is there an inexpensive way to allow the students with their personal ipads/ipods and the 20 ipads owned by the school to connect to a VLAN to keep from using up our DHCP IP addresses from the server.

Cisco Wireless :: WLC 5508 To Use Apple Bonjour Service For Apple TV And IPads

Oct 22, 2012

A customer of ours has the following access points and wireless lan controllers on site.  They want to use the Apple Bonjour service with Apple TV's and iPads.  I have enabled multicast feature of the 5508 globally and one the SSID.The Apple TV has an ethernet connection and the iPads connect over the wifi.  The Apple tv is on the same subnet as the iPad's - the Bonjour features do work for approx 5/10 minutes then it stops working for some reason. The Access Points plug into a Cisco 2960 Layer 2 switch, the 5508 controllers plug are in LAG mode and plug into a Nortel Layer 3 stack which I have enabled IGMP snooping.I've read that the Apple Bonjour service isnt designed to work on a multi subnet network - but both the Apple TV and iPad are connected on the same subnet.  Sounds like some kind of timeout but not too sure.

Cisco :: 3502I Not Getting Ip Address

Jan 27, 2013

I just deployed 2 brand new 3502I access points.  Ap's are connected to a PoE module on a 4507.  Ap's are powering up.  The 4507 is configured to hand out ip addresses to the ap's.  When I run 'sh cdp nei det', I can see the ap's but they do not have an ip address assignment.  Another weird thing is in the output of the command, each ap has two entries.  One entry shows gigabit0 and the other gigabit0.1.  I have never seen this before.  I dont know if this in some way is why the ap's are not getting an ip address.  I have 40 other 3502I from 2 yrs ago and no problem.  The IOS of the new ap's is 15.2.

Cisco Wireless :: 3502i LED Not Remaining Lit?

Oct 17, 2012

I am in the process of deploying 3502i APs. This site has 2 - 5508 WLCs both running Software version 7.0.220.0 and 2 - 4402 WLCs both running the same version of software as the 5508s. All of the APs that I have installed so far have joined the controller and I can associate to them and access the network. When the APs first are connected to the switch they go through the 'normal' boot up with the LED changing colors - white, red, green, blue (not necessarily in that order). Once the AP has completed its boot sequence the LED goes out and remains NOT lit.

This is happening to most but not all of the APs. This is the first time I have deployed 3502s - previous experience is with 1142s and 1242s and the LED does not do this with them.

I can, through the CLI, turn the LED on but it is then ALWAYS blue, even if a device is NOT associated to it.

I do not want to leave them off because the account will believe they have a 'dead' AP and with them always blue they cannot properly troubleshoot using the LED.

Cisco :: WLC 5508 / 3502i AP Properties

Apr 25, 2013

Devices Used;
WLC = 5508
AP - 3502I
Windows Clients = Windows 7

We are using WP2/AES for encryption and 802.1x for key management for our WLAN.  The question I have is, when I look at one of the client's properties through the WLC 5508,  then look at the  "AP properties", its says that its using; Authentication = Open System, and WEP state = wep enabled.  Why would the AP properties have open system and wep enabled when the WLAN is setup for WP2/AES???  There is also a "Security Information" Section just below the "AP properties" section and this lists the correct settings.  Are the "AP Properties" irrelevant in this case?
