Connecting Automatically To Open Networks?

Sep 12, 2011

My boss's old Windows XP laptop was able to connect to open wireless networks automatically so he never had to click that icon on the bottom right to check signals or anything like that. Is there anything like that I could set up on Windows 7?

I realize that this is not secure and very silly. I suggested choosing the best and trusted networks available. My boss, however, doesn't want to accept that he should have to go through more steps with newer technology. So in this case, I'd just like to give him what he's asking for.

Set Up Secure NAS With Two Networks And One Of Them Open?

Jul 8, 2012

One project I want to do is get them a network storage drive (Except, due to budget reasons, all I get is the 1Tb external they've had for a year now, and a NAS adapter). I can set up the NAS no problem, but here is the catch. From the ISP we have a B/G Router/Modem combo, and for range, we have a d-link B/G/N router.

I would like to have the ISP's G network open to cover our lobby for free access, and have the D-Link's N to cover the far offices, WITH access to the files. Now the issue, how do I set up the D-Link router, to only share the NAS files with devices conected directly to it.

I have to go manually hit connect and enter my key for it to connect.

WRT120N Router Stopped Connecting - Error Saying Wired Connection Was Not Automatically Repaired

Apr 2, 2012

My Linksys WRT120N router was working fine for all of 1 and 1/2 months and suddenly it stopped making the internet connection. At first nothing could access the internet but now that I've reset the router (via the little reset button in the back) my Kindle can access the wireless, but of course no password etc. I actually don't know how to put back the username and password for it. When router is connected: When I troubleshoot the connection by clicking on "Repair Connection" it takes about 2-5 mins "obtaining a new network address" then I get an error saying "The wired connection to your router was not automatically repaired. Connecting Two Networks Via WAN?

Aug 15, 2011

We have three computers (one of which acts as a file server) plugged directly into an internal office network. Then we have another such connection leading to the WAN port of a router which shares a single connection among another 5 or so computers & laptops. So the WAN connection is providing internet access AND access to the file server.

Since upgrading to a new router, it is now not possible to "see" the file server from the computers connected to the router, although the internet can still be accessed without a hitch. This has now become infuriating as I've spent several hours changing all possible router & IP settings to no avail.

Connecting To Isolated Networks With The Same Network Id

Nov 24, 2011

Basically, the issue I am having is we have a class b network ID of 172.16. We had a new phone system installed last year which needed to be on an isolated network as our switches do not have QoS on them. Plus they are quite bad...

Some genius decided to use the same network ID on the new phone system as our current network but they are totally isolated networks.

This is where my laziness comes into play... We use a laptop connected to the phone system's network to connect to configure the phones etc but I would like to do this at my desk. So what I have done is configured a wireless access point on the phone systems network so I can connect to it on my laptop to theoretically make changes to the phone system on my PC, but also staying connected to our network for obvious reasons... I do have some networking knowledge, and I am assuming the routes are going to be completely wrong because of the same network ID issue not allowing me to connect to the phone system on my laptop. But I am not sure if I can add a static route to resolve this.

D-Link DAP-1522 :: Multiple Networks Connecting To It?

Jan 9, 2011

Adding a second DAP-1522,  They have 1 DAP-1522, they set that up useing the WAP(button on the side),  This one is running in the frontroom of the house and the 2nd bridge will be running in the bedroom of the house. She has tried to click on the WAP button on both Dap-1522's and then the router to sync but thats not working, from what we can tell.   I think I will need to manually config them now that a second one has been introduced.the frontroom Bridge is, but we cant find the ipaddreess for the second dap-1522 at this time.  So question to all, if I can - Is there a way to identify all of the Dap-1522's on the network or anything that is connected on the network. as the DIR-655 is only showing 2 things connected?Right now I wish she would have listened too me and had her house wired for ethernet when the house was being built.

DIR 655 - Connecting Two Routers Together And Keeping Networks Separate

Jul 31, 2012

I have two dir655 routers that are connected. The second router is not setup as a wireless access point, but I am open to that if it will work. The second one is going to serve as a public wifi in a business, with a separate SSID. The first one is going to handle the local business network, with its NAS and printers. How would I prevent the public wifi from accessing the first router?

I have tried the guest wifi partition setting, however it still allows access to the lan devices on the first router. It does partition with the second router properly though, but thats not worth anything to me cause there are no lan devices on the 2nd router.

Would it work right if I turn the 2nd router into a access point, disable the dhcp server, and set it up with the guest wifi partition?

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54G Connecting Two Different Ip Networks?

Cisco Firewall :: ASA 5505 Connecting 2 Internal Networks?

Nov 7, 2012

We recently changed locations and acquired a new circuit from our provider. They also connected our remote branch office to our main office through MPLS. Now, as I understand it, the branch office basically connects back to the main office through our providers network (MPLS). We have a new router at the branch office which has a gateway of The clients in that office have IP's of - 100, using the gateway of
The main office network is (Gateway of
At this end (Main office), I also have a new Cisco 2900 provided by the ISP, with port 0/0 for the outside connection (connected to the 0 port on my ASA 5505). The ASA's port 1 obviously running into my network hub. The provider tells me that port 0/1 on the 2900 is or should be used to connect the branch office back to here and has an IP of, as that's how the provider provisioned it. So, I plug that into the ASA's Ethernet port 0/2. And I'm assuming they have a route setup either on the 2900 or the router in the branch office so that can reach me here at
There is already a static route setup on the ASA: ( 1). As soon as I plug in the cable, the IP phones at the branch office work, but they can't access the internet or any resources in the main office. My questions are:
1. Shouldn't I be able to just go straight from the 0/1 port on the Cisco 2900 to my hub. At first I was plugging right into the ASA, but I don't think I need to do that, why go from the branch office through my ASA to access resources and then back out the ASA for internet. If they're already coming from, through the MPLS network, then they should go right to my network and then back out the ASA.
2. They have to route through the ASA first, in which case, do I need to setup another VLAN for that branch network in conjunction with a static route? I can ping the router and hosts in the branch office through the ASA only!

Cisco Wireless :: AP1100 - Android Not Connecting To Protected Wi-Fi Networks

Oct 9, 2012

I've found that Android devices (smartphones for sure, and perhaps other devices, like Windows Vista/XP pc's with some Atheros wi-fi adapters) can't connect to our eduroam network (WPA2 Enterprise) if the Access Points (all from Cisco) also have open SSID's configured in it. Once I protect the open networks with, for instance, WPA-PSK, the Android  devices  immediatly get connected to the eduroam. Is there any fix that can be applied to the Access Points. Below there's a list fo AP models and IOS version we have running. I may mention that this problem doesn't occur with Access Points from other manufacturers like, for instance, Meru Networks.
In the AP's event log appears the folowing:
"Packet to client 0026.3778.081f reached max retries, removing the client"
The steps to mitigate the problem above were applied, but with no results.

PS: The Android versions may vary with the same symptom.
Device types: AP 1100; AP 1130; AP1140;AP1210;AP1250

Dell :: New Inspiron 1764 - Low Signal Connecting To Wireless Networks?

Jun 28, 2010

I have a brand new Dell Inspiron 1764 laptop that I received on the 25th of June. It is "replacing" a Dell Inspiron 9100 that has gotten to be too slow and bulky for my needs. For support purposes, both laptops are running on Windows 7.Overall, I love my new Inspiron 1764. However, I have noticed seriously degraded connection/signal strength with the wireless card (Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-card) compared to my Inspiron 9100 (Dell Wireless 1350 WLAN Mini-PCI card).

In areas of my house that my 9100 can get full signal strength (5 bars), my new 1764 is getting 2 or fewer bars. This behavior is also not limited to only my house, as I have tested it at my job and in an area less than 10 feet away from the wireless router, I have "Internet connectivity problems".

I tried twice this morning to speak with Dell support. The first person I spoke at least initiated a DellConnect session with me so that they could check some of my settings and such (however, why they went twice into my sharing settings I could not determine since they have absolutely nothing to do with signal strength.)

Unfortunately, I was disconnected from the session when I went to an area that had less signal than right next to my wireless router.I then got back on chat support with Dell and received another technician to speak with. I explained my problem, told them that I was in a DellConnect session with the other technician, and they looked up my support contract. They then told me that my warranty does not cover software issues and referred me to the software department and told me it would be an extra charge. I told them that I did not believe it to be a software issue in any way, shape, or form. They told me that it must be a setting issue. I have since spent several hours scouring the internet forums on Dell and other websites checking people who have had similar issues. Some of their issues were admittedly from software settings, but I have still yet to find anything that indicates to me that I have an incorrect software setting.

As of this writing, I am standing in my kitchen, typing on my Inspiron 9100 with a full 5 bars, while my Inspiron 1764 sits next to me with a measly 2 bars, and I am literally standing 7 feet above the room that houses my Linksys WRTU54G-TM router.Personally, I suspect a faulty wireless card, but how do I convince Dell to hear my case and replace it rather than trying to bilk me for unneeded software support?
