View 1 RepliesI switched to comcast internet recently and got a new modem. The modem is the telephony Arris one, but the problem is that I already have a Motorola SBG6580 but can not use that for my wireless laptop options. I want to be able to use the SBG6580 as my access point and LAN, but it isn't allowed any internet to share wirelessly?
View 3 Replies View RelatedSince the new cable company won't let me use my SB6141, I need to pick up a new cable modem. One that works with Oceanic TWC is the new SBG6580. It has wireless built-in; however, I don't want to use it. Is it possible to use this modem and leave the wireless off? Or does the wireless automatically turn-on whenever the modem is on? With all that said, is the built-in wireless any good? I recently purchased an ASUS RT-56 and would prefer using it to some built-in system.

View 1 Replies View RelatedLooking to add my belkin wireless router to Sbg6580 router as an access point to extend wireless. I've read up enough to understand the fundamentals - LAN to LAN, changing IPs, turn off DCHP etc. - but am confused by a couple of things.
First, belkin faqs says to Open the router page, click on "use as access point" (I get that) "Select Enable" (I also get that), and then it goes on to say "This will give you the options to set the IP Address and Subnet mask for the router.**These settings should match your existing network settings; by default the IP address will be set to 192.168.2.254 and the Subnet mask will be 255.255.255.0". Does this mean to set the IP address of the Belkin to that of the Motorola (which is 192.168.0.1) on this page?
Then the FAQ goes on to say access the LAN and "change the IP Address to something such as 192.168.2.47 or you can use 192.168.2.200.**As long as the first three sets of numbers match your existing network, you will be fine". I thought the LAN IP address should fall outside the DCHP range of the Motorola? So if the DHCP range for the Motorola is 192.168.0.2 through 192.168.0.250 then I'd assign 192.168.0.251 to the Belkin?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am using a WRT310N. I have a Cisco ASA5505 as my firewall and don't need the routing capabilities of the WRT310N. So I just plug the LAN port on the WRT310N directly to my LAN switch. I just need the WRT310N to have an IP address for management. So I configure the LAN with an IP address, but there is no way to set the default gateway on the LAN. You can only set the default gateway on the WAN interface, which I don't use, since I am using this in an AP only type of configuration.

Currently a Linksys BEFSR81 router is connected and works fine. With the E2500, running Cisco Connect it gets to 90% complete and then times out. I'm guessing at that point it is trying to connect to the Internet.Support had me download the latest Cisco Connect, but it had the same problem. I have tried various things manually configuring the router with no success.

So we have RF barcode scanners that run off of access points that have high gain antenna's WITH NO ENCRYPTION AT ALL. We are broadcasting a wireless signal to half of Ohio with no security what so ever. No wonder the last guy was let go. So, I have Symbol/Motorola AP-4131's with are easy to serial up to and configure. Love them for their ease of use but they only transmit 802.11b. The AP-5131 access points are 802.11 a/b/g but are total hell to work on. I have serialed up to the 5131 and restored the AP to factory defaults and can access admin level through the CLI just fine. Problem is I don't know the CLI so I need to access the GUI.

I have read that APs from different manuafacturers are not necessarily compatible for seamless roaming. Well, I guess the worst case is to turn off wifi on the SURFBoard and get 2 identical APs, but that's not ideal.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased and installed seven WAP300N access points in a school, but they are now having intermittent problems with network access, as of right now their network is completely unusable. Specifically there appears to be a conflict between these access points and the gateway/router which provides their network clients with addresses via DHCP; BUT in the three years I have been assisting them the DHCP server on their Cisco router has never before given any problems!
All WAP300N units are wired to the network acting as standard access points and setup to pickup their address automatically via DHCP. When the problem first arose I changed to offending unit to use a static IP address to avoid what I presumed was an address conflict; however the same problem now appears to be happening with the other units as well!
My understanding is that these WAP300N units do not have any in-built DHCP server capability, is this correct ?If not, how I can disable this feature.Otherwise, it would seem to me that the units must be incorrectly using the default gateway address which they are getting from the DHCP server as thier own IP address. Unfortunately assigning static IPs to each access point is not possible as these are controlled by another group and the existing allocation is now used up.
I have a design for my infrastructure and i'm thinking to choose 4 or 5, or more, 2960 series in a stack mode instead of one 4500 series?

Problem 1 : I use VOIP phone (Vonage) which connected to my Motorola wireless device, current when i call somebody using VOIP phone, they can hear my voice but i cant hear them... Last years i dont have any problem but last one month above problem exists.
Problem 2: I tried Speed test with cable (13MBPS download stream) but through wireless (6MBPS download stream)
We have a several WAP610N Access points in our company since a few months and immediately noticed that it has problems with the gateway when you set it to use a static IP. (the AP loses its gateway when you pull the power). Today I saw that there was a firmware update, and in the firmware release notes it stated that the problem with the missing gateway info on the status screen was solved.
This info is correct. After updating to 1.0.0.2 the gateway is shown in the status screen when you use a static IP, but the actual function of the gateway is still not working after restarting the AP! I already let our reseller create a support call with Linksys a few months ago, but in the end they told me this would probably not be fixed and that I had to use DHCP.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Motorola SBG901 router. Typing ipconfig showed that 172.18.8.1 is the Default Gateway and this is the URL I always used to access the router login page.
I reset the router today by holding the reset button. Now typing the URL 172.18.8.1 does not work. The router user guide says to go to 192.168.0.1. I have tried this but it also does not work. For both I just get the "problem loading page" in Firefox.
The Internet works fine both with an ethernet connection and wirelessly. My only issue is that I cannot access the Motorola router login page. I could access it fine this morning before I reset the router.

I have my E1200 connected to my Netgear FVS318 router (which is a wired router) and the Netgear is connected to the internet. When a wireless client attempts to connect to the internet after automatically receiving an IP from the E1200, they do not have internet access as the default gateway that gets assigned is the IP of the E1200 192.168.2.100, which is not correct. It should be assigned 192.168.2.1, which is the IP of the Netgear router. Thefore, I have to manually set their IP addresses to use 192.168.2.1. View 1 Replies View RelatedI just bought an LG Bluray DVD player (BD390) which is unable to find the access point in my home network. My router is a WRT54G, ver. 2.2, running firmware: Ver.4.21.1. My home network uses high speed cable with two computers on the wireless network, all working with no problems. The router is on the second floor but the two computers and the new BD390 are on the first floor - about 35 feet away. I have the wirelss security set to none and use only the specific computer MAC addresses to allow connection to this network.
I found directions in the forum for a setup using the LG BD390 but with a different Linksys router. I changed the security to WPA (AES); the Beacon interval from 100 to 75; the Fragmentation Threshold from 2346 to 2304; and the RTS Threshold from 2347 to 2307. The DVD wireless connection still failed to find my network. There is a "Push button" connection feature on the BD390 setup which I tried, but the only "button" on the router I could find was in the basic wireless setting, a green icon for the wireless SSID setup. No connection was made there either.
The recommendation connection from the LG manual is for a network cable, but that would be over 50 feet and a real pain to connect, so I would prefer WiFi.
I have a ADSL Modem with built in router that the E1500 is connected to via Ethernet. If I choose "Automatic Configuration" for the internet connection setting on the E1500 I can enable DHCP on the E1500 but the gateway it gives to clients is always that of itself (192.168.1.1).
