SBG6580 Low Signal From Home Routers
Sep 11, 2012
I have a broadband Motorola SBG6580 cablemodem that feeds internet into my main home computer via a cable. The modem is also a wireless router. The modem is in an "office-room" inside my house. The main bedroom is located about 25 meters, with two bedrooms in between the office-room and the main bedroom.I broke a leg so I figured I could work on bed, but I have this problem: the signal from the motorola wireless router is so low at the main bedroom that the connection drops all the time. Oddly (or maybe not), I can see like 10 other access points, presumably from my neighbors, all with a full signal. And I live in a "full-floor" apartment so I only have neighbors above and below.I connected a linksys WRT54G2 that I have and I get the exact same problem.

I have a Belkin NF5D8236-4 v3 as my main router. However, the signal range isn't the best throughout my home. After a little research and a tight budget, my thought is to purchase a Belkin N150 F9K1001 to serve as the primary router and then use the N F5D8236-4 v3 as an access point elsewhere in the house.I understand that the N150 cannot serve as an access point (hence the idea to use that as the primary), but that the N F5D8236-4 v3 can. Am I correct? Will my plan work? I can't spend much and a booster would cost more than the N150.

I want to make a quite massive "home" wireless network. I wanna get 2 laptops, a desktop, a PS3 and some sound wireless boxes in my wireless network. Therefore, I wanna test the received signal level from my wireless router on each room of my house to check if its worth getting a new router or not.So, do you know the name of softwares that do this? Check up the signal level every place the computer is? I know this can be done with 2G, 3G networks as I work with it, but I got no idea with Wi Fi

how to re-connect my home wireless signal to my computer. The wireless signal is strong and the other computers in my house will connect with no issues. My computer connected with no problems to my wireless signal at work. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium on a Lenovo Idea Pad Win7 PC. The computer was connecting yesterday and then was shut down. The next time I got on, ,it wouldn't connect. I've tried re-establishing the network as a new network, but it says the network already exists. The profile is the same as our other computers and nothing has been changed there. When I disconnect from the wireless signal and ask to re-connect it says that the it is trying to connect, but can't make the connection. I'm looking for any way to re-build the profile so it will connect and work again.

My router has wireless capability and the signal inside my home is pretty strong so I have no compaints there. The problem comes in when I use my computer which is located in a shed outside. I get a signal maybe 35% of the time, and even then it's weak. I want to use an access point to allow the computer in the shed to aquire internet access. Do I need to hardwire the access point or can I do it wirelessly? Would a repeater be more effective and which config would be best in that case?

I have a Verizon Actiontec router without N band. I cannot receive the signal in the farthest corner of my home. Apparently using an N band router will solve this problem with the higher output. Verizon refuses to send me a new router with N band, stating that they will merely send me a replacement for the current router w/o N band. Therefore I want to change this router out. I don't know if the Actiontec has a built-in modem, and if so, how and what can I use as a replacement router.

I have a BT home hub 2.0A (BT is our ISP) it covers most of our house except for my bedroom. I have two spare routers i'm not using, one is a Speedtouch ST585 v6 and the other is a Belkin F5D7632-4 and was wondering if I could use these to extend the range of the home hub wirelessly. As far as I can tell I cannot install dd-wrt on any of these 3.

I am researching power adapters versus range extenders to bring the best signal to a new home theater so I can stream Netflix. I don't do much else (gaming etc...) and am not a tech person. I just want to enjoy movies in an area of my house that gets little or no signal. Didi I waste my money buying smart? Can I still do an ethernet connection off the power adapter? Should I put another router there instead--- off the adapter- so I can use the theaters wifi?

I have a Motorola SBG6580 wireless gateway/router and am happy with it in general. I had a 192.168.2.n subnet with old Linksys but I find that I cannot change the MOT from its pre-set 192.168.0.n net to the ..2.net because it conflicts with a "private LAN" in the same range. How do I change the provate lan to, for example, ..9.n so I can use the ...2.n net? I'm running with the ..0.n now, just fine, but, I VPN into office and primary net there is ..0.n and so is confusing with IP shortcuts/conflicts. how to make the change?

I wanted to know how to connect two routers together and make them both where I could connect to the internet with them. First off, here is my setup. I have a main router, named "Main" and another router named "dd-wrt". I have the dd-wrt firmware on that one. From the Main router, I have a 50 ft cord running through my house, to my room, which consists of a switch and a desktop. I read that you had to put the second router in client mode in order to do this. What do I need to do in order to have it setup where I have two visible wireless connections on my laptops, and I can connect to either one of them through wireless or Ethernet and get internet access?

Since the new cable company won't let me use my SB6141, I need to pick up a new cable modem. One that works with Oceanic TWC is the new SBG6580. It has wireless built-in; however, I don't want to use it. Is it possible to use this modem and leave the wireless off? Or does the wireless automatically turn-on whenever the modem is on? With all that said, is the built-in wireless any good? I recently purchased an ASUS RT-56 and would prefer using it to some built-in system.

Looking to add my belkin wireless router to Sbg6580 router as an access point to extend wireless. I've read up enough to understand the fundamentals - LAN to LAN, changing IPs, turn off DCHP etc. - but am confused by a couple of things.
First, belkin faqs says to Open the router page, click on "use as access point" (I get that) "Select Enable" (I also get that), and then it goes on to say "This will give you the options to set the IP Address and Subnet mask for the router.**These settings should match your existing network settings; by default the IP address will be set to 192.168.2.254 and the Subnet mask will be 255.255.255.0". Does this mean to set the IP address of the Belkin to that of the Motorola (which is 192.168.0.1) on this page?
Then the FAQ goes on to say access the LAN and "change the IP Address to something such as 192.168.2.47 or you can use 192.168.2.200.**As long as the first three sets of numbers match your existing network, you will be fine". I thought the LAN IP address should fall outside the DCHP range of the Motorola? So if the DHCP range for the Motorola is 192.168.0.2 through 192.168.0.250 then I'd assign 192.168.0.251 to the Belkin?
