Cisco Routers :: RV042 DDNS Connected In A Private Subnet
Feb 15, 2011
my RV042 is not able to propperly update my ddns. If you try to resolve my dyndns subnet kitus-network.dyndns.org you will get 192.168.0.2. How can I make the router update my ddns with the real public ip rather than the private ip it "sees" on the WAN interface?

I am trying to set up my rv042 to use the ddns service. The rv042 is directly connected to the ISP provided modem on WAN port 1. The problem is that instead of seeing the internet IP the rv042 is using the ISP sub net assigned IP.
LAN IP : 192.168.1.1 WAN1 IP : 192.168.12.9 WAN2 IP : 0.0.0.0 Mode : Gateway DNS (WAN1) :DNS (WAN2) : 192.168.12.1 DDNS(WAN1 | WAN2) : Off | Off DMZ Host : Disabled

I have RV110W connected in private network 192.168.5.0/24, I have redirected pptp port from adsl modem to the RV110W and VPN works OK. DDNS on the adsl modem is not available.I need to use Dynamic DNS functionality on my RV110W. The device supports several DDNS services (TZO.com, Dyn DNS.com, 3322.org and noip.com). For all but TZO the public "Internet IP Address" shows as 192.168.5.110, which also gets auto registered with the DDNS service.I have tested this with free noip.com account and this is obviously undesired behavior. I need the router to register my real public IP.For TZO it shows the proper public IP, but TZO service is no longer available on TZO.com.

I'm tryig to put a computer into the DMZ and then access it from computers on the LAN using a local IP address. My reason for doing this is that I'd like my DMZ computer to be a locked down web server (just ports 80 and 443 open to the outside), but I need to be able to have more access to it from inside my LAN (e.g. I want to be able to SSH into it from the LAN).
Thus far I've been able to get a computer set up in the DMZ and can access the Internet from the DMZ computer. And I can access the DMZ computer from the LAN computers using the public address for the DMZ computer. But I can't access the DMZ computer from the LAN computers using a private address for the DMZ computer. see the attached file for a diagram of our current settings. A few descriptions:
- Verizon provides us with a number of static IP addresses, i.e. 71.123.123.10-12 (note these aren't actually the addresses, but representative).
-- In the RV042, I have the following configurations made:
- Setup > Network > LAN Setting
- Device IP Address = 10.4.20.1

I have two private networks and want/need to route traffic between them. I also have an ISP connection and want/need to provide internet to at least one of the private networks. Providing internet access to both is not required or desired.
Can this be accomplished with an RV042? If so, how?
P.s. The problem space, once again, in a non-narrative form with some addresses thrown in:
Private Network A: 192.168.200.0/24
Private Network B: 10.50.3.96/27
ISP Network C: 192.168.0.0/24 192.168.0.1GW 192.168.0.2 is WAN1 address on RV042
Required Traffic Flow
A <--> B
A ---> C

I'm trying to set up 2 subnet with two RV042 routers. One router will act as a gateway and both WAN ports will be used by two different isp connection. The first router (gateway) LAN IP will be 192.168.0.1/24. I would also like to set up another router behind the gateway with with separate subnet 192.168.1.X/24. And I would like clients on the 192.168.1.x subnet to use the internet through the gateway router and clients on the 192.168.0.x subnet to access resources on the 192.168.1.x subnet. Am I able to do this with two RV042?

I have RV042 Router, I'm using only one Internet conection, I'm using IP group like this 192.168.95.x, my DHCP setting use 192.168.95.120 to 192.168.95.240, but in this time I have 245 workstations (may be I will have 25 additionals workstations) and some times I see IP conflict message in my current work stations.
I had read about SUBNET like response about my problem, but I'm not sure about that and how to make subnet with my RV042.

We connected to locations to the RV042 by setting up 2 Gateway - to - Gateway VPNs - both locations can communicate with the RV042 and devices within the local LAN of the RV042 - however at the moment it is not possible to send traffic from 1st VPN Location to the 2nd VPN location

I have a RV042 with multiple subnet, 192.168.10.0 and 192.168.9.0. 192.168.10.0 is assigned to the LAN, 192.168.9.0 is created under multiple subnet. Both subnet can access Internet by accessing IP address, but 192.168.9.0 cannot access Internet by using host name. It looks like DNS is not working for the 9.0 network.

Small office, 2 RV042, 2 DSL connections. 1 is used striclty for the business side, and the other is for our CCTV network. They also have seperate DSL connections as we have 2 external IP address for clients to connect remotely. We don't want to take away our exisring setup, but would like to bridge both networks so a few of our internal clients can connect to our CCTV network and use some of the devices. Right now they come in on VPN but its not as fast.Is this doable without adding additional hardware? Both networks need DHCP enable as well.
Breakdown:
DSL 1
|
RV042
|
192.168.20.X
|| Would like to somehow join the 2 networks together.|
DSL 2
|
RV042
|
192.168.40.X

I'd like to set each individual LAN port with different address i.e. LAN 1 192.168.1.1 and LAN 2 10.1.1.1 instead of using the multiple subnet feature and having all ports replying for the addresses created.

I have an RV042 with the PPTP server configured, which is working because I can connect with my iPad and droid phones, however, I'm unable to access resources on the RV042 side (192.168.1.X) when my local network is the same ip scheme (192.168.1.x). It works fine when I'm on a different network like 3G or someone else's Wifi network (192.168.11.X).

I have 2 questions to confirm and/or get direction on how to modify.
1) is there a way to get around the (seemingly arbitrary) class C (slash 24+) subnet restriction for the primary/main IP address for the internal LAN?
(I realize I can setup multiple internal subnets but that also seems to introduce restrictions for port ‘forwarding’ and ‘one-to-one NAT’ use because those features seem to be restricted to the primary/main IP subnet)
2) it seems like all traffic is passed to the host on the internal side of a ‘One-to-One NAT’ regardeless of the firewall rules in place, is that what is be expected?

I'm planning to set up a network with two routers and one cable connection. One router will be for public wifi at my business and the other will be for my Point of sale system and private use. I think I have it figured out but want to double check the set up. Someone tell me if this isn't correct or if there's a better way of doing it.Cable modem --> connect via ethernet to Router #1 WAN port. Router #1 Lan port 1: connect via ethernet to router #2 WAN. Now, router 1 and 2 will have two different subnets; 192.168.1.x and 192.168.2.x respectively. Router #2 is the one that I should use for my private network and for the POS system since it can't be accessed by users from router #1 correct? I have DD-WRT installed on both routers but I plan on putting Tomato firmware for router #1 to limit bandwidth for public wifi and keep DD-WRT installed for router #2.

On the System Summary screen in the Port Statistics table when you click on one of the Connected links the pop open window does not show the IP address of the connected device when using IPv4. Where can I find this?
If the devices are using static IP addresses and not getting them from the DHCP server they do not show in the Client Table under DHCP Status.
If they are know MAC addreses because they have been assigned to static IPs on the DHCP setup screen they will not show up in the Uknown MAC Addresses pop up window.

I have a Motorola SBG6580 wireless gateway/router and am happy with it in general. I had a 192.168.2.n subnet with old Linksys but I find that I cannot change the MOT from its pre-set 192.168.0.n net to the ..2.net because it conflicts with a "private LAN" in the same range. How do I change the provate lan to, for example, ..9.n so I can use the ...2.n net? I'm running with the ..0.n now, just fine, but, I VPN into office and primary net there is ..0.n and so is confusing with IP shortcuts/conflicts. how to make the change?

The shares on the LAN constantly drop(for 4-5 seconds usually) or slow down and then speed up again. This only happens on the PCs using the private subnet but the internet is fine. We don't have any problems with shares on the public subnet though.Private subnet goes through a proxy server to reach the internet.Recently we had an internet outage in the building and suddenly shares weren't dropping or running slow anymore.

I just purchased a RV016 router, upgrading from an older Linksys router only to find out that there was no support for TZO DDNS. I have used TZO for years now and don't really want to change to another service. Any way to request this from Cisco engineers for future firmware upgrades?

I am trying to set up DDNS for my network. Right now there are only RV180W for DDNS providers (DynDNS, TZO, and 3322).I wanted to use a free DDNS provider, however DynDNS and TZO are now pay only (or only a short free trial via credit card). 3322 seems untrustworthy, as Google is reporting that it is a security risk?Anyway, my question is: "Is there a way I use another DDNS service other than the ones offered by default in my RV180W?"

I have two of the Wrvs 4400n V2 VPN (V2.0.2.1-ETSI) routers in different countries, one in the UK and one in Australia. They are permanently linked using the IPSec VPN tunnel and the dynamic DNS feature (DynDNS.org). I have found that the router in the UK does not update its IP address automatically to the dns website when the UK Internet service provider changes the WAN IP of this router. This makes the IPSEC tunnel go down until I telephone the UK location and ask to force the router to update its IP address with dyndns by restarting it or by using the routers configuration to re-save the password for dynamic dns.

How to to successfully configure and connect to a DynDNS account with RVS4000? This was working fine for me until recently when I think I upgraded the firmware to 1.3.3.5.I am trying to connecting to DynDNS.org service. In the past, I used the following string for the Hostname which worked: 'mysubdomain.domain.com&system=custom' (including small quotes). According to the RVS4000 documentation, all you should have to do is specify the host name with DynDNS but this clearly is not accurate.

How do I test my routers ddns? My computer went down. So, my adsl ip address changed. I caused the modem/router to reboot. But the new ip wasn't sent to the Host (dyndns.org). I had to update my ip manually on [URL].

How to set up a home network with 2 routers, where R1 acts as the DHCP server and R2 is basically a switch, connected LAN to LAN and everything is on the same subnet. Currently I have a different setup:Both routers have the DHCP server enabled and I connect R2's WAN port to R1 LAN. Therefore I have 2 subnets. Now my special requirement is that R2 is a DD-WRT router, which establishes a VPN connection to StrongVPN, so that all internet traffic via R2 is encrypted and goes through the StrongVPN server. Now my question:If I change my router setup to the same subnet, meaning R2 connects LAN to R1 LAN and I disable DHCP server on R2, will R2 still be able to establish the VPN connection?

connecting to separate private lans:
A) 192.168.1.x
B) 192.168.0.x
A is behind a Watchguard XTM25 11.5.3
B is behind a CISCO SA520W
Both have static public facing IP's.
B only has a IP based PBX system attached to it over a SIP ALG. (originally it was hooked up to the watchguard but they didn't play nice, but works great with the Cisco. Problem is the Cisco don't have all the features of the Watchguard)
A has all my users workstations attached. The issue is that computers on A need to talk to server on B for a desktop application to work. Since they are on separate subnets, it isn't working. The app itself still doesn't work by port forward/sNats, etc.
A & B are right next to each other, so cabling between them is not an issue.
Currently, I have a cable between the watchguard and the Cisco. The watchguard end is configured with a static private ip on the subnet A (the cisco side), and plugged into the lan on the cisco side. I have a policies to let all traffic flow freeley, and from the logs on the Watchguard, all A subnet traffic is correctly going to the Cisco via said cable.
But, nothing is coming back from the Cisco. So my question is, how can I get the Cisco to play nice with the other subnet and send traffic back to the B subnet?

I'm looking to update our office network and replace our old wireless box.I've been looking at the RV110w after a google search and need to find out some things before suggesting anything.
Currently our network is running a public IP address for each piece of equipment which we'd like to keep, mainly for ease. We have a wireless access point running in invisible mode for wireless client access to the entire network, and also a Netscreen firewall.
What I'd like to do is the following:
1. Keep public ip addresses for wired clients, complete with existing network/local server access/RDP.
2. Set up two VLans on private ip addresses - one to have full access as per the wired clients and the other only for guest Internet access.
Is this something the RV110w is able to do? If so how would I go about setting it up?

I just moved into an apartment where the internet is being provided to me via wifi (open). The landlord doesn't have a private network, he is with me. What I'm was curious about is if it is possible for me to use a second router to create a secured network for all my devices? My thought would look like this: ISP>Landlords Router>wireless>MyRouter. I know you can have private and public wifi but the two routers have to be connected. I haven't talked to him about the fact that he needs to secure his router mainly because we never cross paths.

I am using a linux embedded system whose Internal IP ,Internal port are mapped .This system is connected to one of the LAN ports
I want to try auto UPnP port forwarding both for RV042 router and Linksys E4200 routers
After enabling the Upnp option only and logging out ,Can i add a port mapping entry in this router without logging in using a C++ program which runs on linux embedded system .
