Dec 31, 2012I have tried for hours when i connect my computer to the router with an ethernet cord it will not connect. the command prompt doesn't recognized ipconfig or netsh.

Cannot Connect Via Ethernet But Can Connect Via Wireless
Jan 1, 2012I have just moved in to a basement apartment and can connect to the internet with my wireless but not with the ethernet cord ran downstairs for me. The other computers upstairs work fine on ethernet through the same router. I do not understand what the problem could be. here are my configs:

Oct 9, 2011I have a thinkpad t23 ( yes I know a bit old but great for work purposes) and I haven't used it in a bit, over a year or so. I connect the Ethernet cable that I use on my other laptop and desk top to it but can't access the Internet. It shows when I am connected to the LAN and says running at 100mps.

Windows 7 doesn't run very well so i'm just going to use XP. On windows 7 it lets me connect to my router wired but on xp it doesn't connect.

Not sure what else to try.

Yesterday, the internet was working fine, but today, when I tried using the internet, it'll connect to the (router? group?), but it won't connect to the internet. I've tried the same plug with my roommate's Macbook, and it worked just fine, so I am assuming it is a problem with my computer (or my own incompetence). Normally, I would just try restarting my modem, but that isn't an option here.

However, just one of the laptops is identifying the connection, the other doesn't recognize that it has been connected to another laptop. Obviously, the cable itself is working (because one laptop identifies the connection), but what might be the problem that the other laptop doesn't recognize any connections?

Sep 13, 2011I'm trying to connect to the internet via the ethernet cable available in my office at the university but it won't work. I'm able to see other computers connected to the network, share printers and have access to shared files but have no internet access. I know that the problem is not the cable or socket because my old XP computer connects to the internet just fine.
I had a similar problem back at home but I just restarted the modem and was able to connect.

My issue is that although I don't need it, I'd like to setup Ethernet for the first time since installing Windows 7. I've had Windows 7 since April 2011, and prior to that I used Windows Vista. From memory, I don't think Vista had any problems with connecting via Ethernet back before I moved house, but this was over two years ago.
My laptop is an ASUS X58L, and the NIC identified by Device Manager, is a Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC. Going into the properties, I can see that I have the latest Windows 7 driver installed - 6.111.723.2009, however prior to this I had the driver that came with the machine (when it was running Vista), which was 6.108.331.2008 and tried updating from Device Manager, but for some reason it said that I had the best driver already installed. To install the 2009 Windows 7 driver, I had to manually download it from Realtek. With either of the drivers, connecting via Ethernet doesn't work, and I'm confused as to what to do next.

It's set up to obtain an automatic ip address whatever that means, could this be the problem ?? When I ping 192.168.1.1 (an instruction I found on another forum) it doesn't work..

Dec 28, 2012A couple of months ago my battery in my laptop stopped holding a charge. Ever since then I've had a lot of problems. The first was the USB drive would not recognize my mouse and the red light on the mouse would not even come on. Now I have 20 different yellow triangles on all of my drivers in driver manager and I can troubleshoot and fix all of them except for RRnetcap miniport 8. And even if I troubleshoot ill just have the same problem when I turn it off and on again. I have a new PSU in the laptop so that can't be the problem. I'm connected to my wireless network but it says no Internet acess.
