Range Of Wireless Routers?

Feb 27, 2012

I planning a wireless home network and would like to have WiFi internet access at my swimming pool ~150 feet from the house. There is only one wall between the location of the wireless router and the pool. Do all routers have similar range? If not what is a good model for this range, or would I need to add a range extender?

D-Link DIR-655 :: Connect Two Routers To Extend Wireless Range?

May 15, 2011

I have two Dir-655's - router1 and router2.

Router1:
ip 192.168.0.1
subnet 255.255.255.0
DHCP enabled range = 192.168.0.100 to 192.168.0.200
Router 2:
ip 192.168.0.2
subnet 255.255.255.0
DHCP disabled

Routers are connected to each other via LAN ports with a switch in between. Both routers have the same wireless SSID with the same password. I am able to connect wirelessly to both routers no problem.

I have a machine running a shared iTunes library which has a wired connection to router1. I also have an Apple TV wired to router2. My issue is if I am connected wirelessly to router2 I may or may not be able to connect to iTunes library. Conversely, if I am connected wirelessly to router1 I may or may not be able to play content from iTunes to Apple TV. I cannot figure out why everything works fine sometimes yet at other times I cannot connect devices between the two routers.

Routers / Switches :: Network Subnet Range To Wide For Vpn?

Jun 23, 2011

I have a supplier which i need to connect a site to site ipsec vpn connection to (from a draytek router). I have already done this on our main site with no problems using the local ip details of 192.168.1.0 and subnet 255.255.255.0 however i need to do the same on our DR site which uses the ip details of 10.1.0.0 and subnet of 255.255.0.0. Our supplier told me the 255.255.0.0 is already used at there end by a different customer so we are unable to connect the vpn and communicate (in theroy we can connect but our supplier cannot reply). We can setup a connection to another spare server on a different address using a different subnet but effectivly this would mean that communication would stop at that server and communcation to the overall network or specific server the supplier needs access to (on the 10.1.0.0 255.255.0.0 network) is not possible. I was thinking maybe an internal vpn server to server connection through win server may do it, 2 nic cards or routes in the server routing table but this all seems a bit messy. Our network consits of win 2003 and 2008 R2 servers and is basic network with modem-vpnfirewall-switch and devices on the internal network connecting to the switch.

Connecting Multiple Routers Via Ethernet Cable For Range?

Dec 20, 2012

Although I haven't looked through all the forum topics I couldn't find anything very similar to my situation. I have a rather large house and my modem/router (Netgear DGND3300 v2 due to DSL) is in the very corner. Given this most of the opposite corner of my house gets either poor or no connection; however, I do have an ethernet cable run across the house through the basement to my home theatre setup. This is where I encounter another problem, I need multiple devices to be connected via ethernet and I also need to have wireless in that same area. In my mind I picture myself connecting a second router to this ethernet cable through which I could have wired connections to all my devices, and a second router broadcasting wirelessly. I'm familiar with some types of wireless bridging, but I'd rather use more of a wired bridge concept if possible, but I've never really seen something like this. The question is, is this possible? Or, what is another possible way to achieve the same results? The only other thing I can think of is to run an ethernet hub from the original wired connection to my home theatre so I can connect multiple ethernet devices and run a separate wireless extender or something, but this just seems pricy.

Belkin Routers :: NF5D8236 Signal Range Isn't Best Throughout Home

May 20, 2013

I have a Belkin NF5D8236-4 v3 as my main router. However, the signal range isn't the best throughout my home. After a little research and a tight budget, my thought is to purchase a Belkin N150 F9K1001 to serve as the primary router and then use the N F5D8236-4 v3 as an access point elsewhere in the house.I understand that the N150 cannot serve as an access point (hence the idea to use that as the primary), but that the N F5D8236-4 v3 can. Am I correct? Will my plan work? I can't spend much and a booster would cost more than the N150.

Cisco Routers :: Forward Range Of Ports With RV180W?

Oct 14, 2012

I am new to the RV180W. I am running the most recent firmware--version 1.0.1.9.

I am having trouble getting FTP to work with my QNAP NAS.

QNAP indicates that I should forward ports 55536-56559 to my NAS. I created a custom service to accomplish this, and then, under port forwarding, I selected the service and forwarded it to the private IP that corresponds with the NAS.

However, the port forwarding configuration only allows me to specify *ONE* internal port. With other routers I have always specified the same private port *RANGE* that corresponds with the public ports that I have opened up.

Cisco Routers :: How To Open Range Of Ports In RV016

Jun 28, 2012

I am trying to add a couple VOIP phone units that do not have their own router.  They are designed to run of the existing router and have three ranges of UDP ports opened up.  They also do not advise using internal (private) statics on the phones. So what they are asking for is three different ranges of UDP ports to be opened up to all behind the router?

I cannot figure out how to do this (or if it is possible) with a RV016.

Ending port: 5070

Action: Always Allow
Service: TEST
Source IP: Any
Destination IP: 10.0.0.100
Internal Port: ?

I want to forward all ports from 5060 to 5070 to the internal range 5060 to 5070.

Cisco Routers :: RV 120W - Port Forwarding Range

Sep 12, 2011

I am not a tech guy but have to take care of some basic IT stuff. I had Ether fast cable/DSL router and it got changed with RV 120W router. there were comment that internet is now working slowly - what could be the reason for this?

I copied most of settings. First big technical problem was with phone. It stopped working - call could get through but when answered there was no sound. We use linksys modem for VoIP. I called operator and was told to disable sip alg. I did that and service improved a little. When answering a call sound could get through but would stop for few moments and then continue. Operator told me to forward port 16384 to 16482 to VoIP modem IP. But I can only set forwarding for one port at the time in "Port forwarding" settings. Is there a way to forward to port range?

Cisco Routers :: SRP547W - Selecting NAT IP From Static Range

Feb 18, 2012

I have a SRP547W which I'm trying to replicate a configuration I had on an old Cisco 847 that recently died.

My ISP has allocated me a /29. The DSL configuration means that the IP address on the PPP session is assigned randomly. I have a mix of internal devices on a private IP range and a few devices with publically accessible addresses. All of the devices on the internal network need to be NATted to a public IP from the range allocated to me.

I can see that I can use the software or hardware DMZ to set up the servers, but I can't see any way to configure the external NAT address.
