Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 Guest SSID Login Page Fails?

Jan 25, 2011

Config:

Netgear ProSafe Gigabit Router is my DHCP Server -- The entire home net work is on the same subnet (192.168.15.xxx)
Linksys E4200 configured as an access point ONLY -- wired connection -- static IP assigned -- DHCP server turned off
Linksys WRT610N configured as an access point ONLY  -- wired connection -- static IP assigned -- DHCP server turned off

3 -- 5 port gigabit switches
1 -- 8 port gigabit switch

No more than two switches between any two wired devices Both Linksys access points have the same SSID and WPA2 security phrase -- total of 4 radios Nonoverlapping channels are selected on both the 2.4Ghz and 5.0Ghz radio to minimize interference All computers are running Windows 7 Professional 64bit with all the latest updates Two iPhones and one iPad also access the network All LAN and WAN connectivity is working as designed?

Problem:

guest SSID is turned on

password is established

All devices will connect to the guest SSID and the E4200 is assigning an ip address to the device in the 192.168.33.xxx range which is what it's supposed to do.When I open a web browser, I am not automatically redirected to the Cisco Login Page. If I enter 192.168.33.1 as the URL, the login screen is presented. I enter the password I have created in the guest admin page on the wireless guest tab.  I then see a blank page and a URL of 192.168.33.1/guestnetwork.asp. THIS IS WHERE I GET STUCK. THE ONLY WAY TO EVER SEE THE LOGIN PAGE AGAIN IS TO REBOOT THE E4200, otherwise you just get unable to connect messages when opening web browsers and the wireless status icon in the system tray shows a yellow exclamation mark.

I successfully connect to the guest SSID but I do not get access to the internet. When I type ipconfig, I see that the DNS is set to 192.168.33.1 which does not exist on my network. I assume there's some internal NAT magic that is supposed to happen in the E4200 to bridge me over to my 192.168.15.xxx network but it doesn't seem to be happening. At the beginning of the call I specifically asked them if the E4200 must be the DHCP server in order for the guest SSID feature to work and they said no. 1.5 hours later they had no answers so they told me that it wasn't working because the E4200 was not the DHCP server. The documentation says nothing about a DHCP requirement for guest AP service. Linksys support further could not answer what you would do if you needed more than one AP with guest service enabled. It seems like this is a firmware issue but it may be the guest SSID service requires the E4200 to also act as the DHCP server. Whether this is a bug or if the router/AP is working as designed?

Linksys Wireless Router :: E3000 Sometimes Don’t Show The Login Page For Guest

Aug 11, 2011

I have an E3000 with firmware version 1.0.04 with WiFi configured as:Guest5GHz (only N)2.4 GHz (only G)I use the guest network access for my guests or my neighbor.Usually they connect and the first page they see in the browser is the http://192.168.33.1/login.asp were they put the password. Some times shomething don’t work and the browser don’t show the page, so the people can’t use the connection because they get a timeout error. The only solution I have in this case is to resart the router, but sometimes is not enough and I have to fisically shotdown and restart it.The login.asp page starts with: This is UNPUBLISHED PROPRIETARY SOURCE CODE of CyberTAN Inc. the contents of this file may not be disclosed to third parties, copied or duplicated in any form without the prior written permission of CyberTAN Inc. This software should be used as a reference only, and it not intended for production use! What about a firmware update to fix it and give the control from the web administration over the guest network?

Cisco Switches :: SRP 540 / Restrict Wireless Internet Access On Certain Periods Of Time?

Dec 10, 2011

We are setting up a network with some restrictions for the attached clients. We're quite new at setting up a network at this size.

Used devices:

1x SRP 540 router
1x SG 300-10P managed switch
4x AP 541N accesspoint

What we want to do:

1. Around 100 laptops and desktop computers need wireless internet access, but some of them on limited times during the day.

2. Not all wireless devices are allowed on using the wireless network.

3. There are also wired desktops that don't need restrictions.

4. We need the possibility to restrict most of the wireless devices to access certain websites or use certain applications on those computers to use internet access during the times that the computers are allowed to access the internet.

5. We want to restrict the clients for using torrents or other possibilities of downloading illegal content.

What we were able to do:

1. The accesspoints (AP 541N) are clustered to achieve 1 large wireless network.

2. Only mac-adresses that are listed in the accesspoints are capable of using the wireless network. Other mac-adresses are not allowed to use the accesspoints.

What we tried already:

1. adding the mac-adresses for the accesspoints to the list of "internet access policy" in the router. Internet access seemed still possible during periods the access wasn't supposed to be possible.

2. adding the mac-adresses from all clients in this internet access policy seemed useless. Only 10 Internet Access Policies seem to be possible to program. 8 mac-adresses per policy. Knowing there are (at least) two policies needed to restrict a group of 8 macs to access the internet in 24 hours (because blocking the internet from f.e. 22u in the evening to 6 in the morning is not possible because 6 is smaller than 22 - or 10PM).Besides, after blocking internet access, we need also to write policies in blocking some websites or keywords.

Cisco Wireless :: WAP321 - Restrict Access To Captive Portal After Successful Authentication

Oct 1, 2012

I have setup a WAP321 with the captive portal activated.2 WLAN networks defined, one for the Normal-user and 1 Guest-user access (with captive portal).

The WAP Management is on its own vlan (vlan 1 ) , network 10.0.0.0 /24
The Normal network has a different vlan (vlan 14) , network 192.168.14.0/24
Guest user(s) are on VLAN143 , 172.16.10.0 /24

So when a guest connects to the wap, the management interface is opened (10.0.0.x), after successful authentication the user is redirected to a predefined site. What i would like to establish is to make it impossible for the Guest-user(s) to access the management portal.

Defining an acl on the management portal is not possible as i would like to use any ip adres on the Normal Network (192.168.14.0/24). Unfortunately you can only define 5 Fixed ipaddresses and not a (sub)-network.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 No Write Access To Mijn Muziek Shared Folder

Dec 28, 2011

I have created a share (entire partition) on my external hard drive, which is connected to my E4200 router. The connection to the share is \192.168.1.1ExHDOn the hard drive I've got a folder called "Mijn muziek" (Dutch for My music). So when i go to \192.168.1.1ExHDMijn muziek, the content of the folder is shown. The weird thing is, I can rename the folder, but i cannot add anything to the folder or remove anything from it. I can add files to other folders on the hard driveAnother thing I don't understand is that his folder shows up as "Music" when I create the share.Music is not a folder on the hard drive, but when I go to \192.168.1.1ExHDMusic, i'm in the "Mijn muziek" folder.I have the exact same problems with the folders "Mijn documenten" (shown as Documents) and "Mijn afbeeldingen" (shown as Pictures). Why i don't have write access on the Mijn muziek folder? And how I can manage to get write access on it?

Linksys Wireless Router :: EA4500 - Network Drive Only Works Without Secure Folder Access

Feb 2, 2013

I'm trying map the USB hard drive connected to my EA4500 router as a network drive in Windows 7, and it works perfectly until I enable secure folder access on the router.

After enabling secure folder access, and not changing any other settings on the router I first unmount the drive since it was set up without credentials and doesn't work that way any more.  When I try to remap the drive I use the same address, but select "Connect using different credentials"  When it prompts me for the log in info I try using the router admin account, but it fails to connect.   Windows network diagnostics tells me the device refused the connection.  I proceeded to set up an account on the router under the folder access settings with the same username, and password I use on my computer, and tried to connect it without checking "Connect using different credentials" (And typing them in manually if that matters) with the same results.

Even with secure folder access enabled I can still reach the drive just fine by typing "ftp://192.168.1.1/" into file explorer.  It prompts me for a username and password, I put in the admin credentials, and I'm in.  Even the account I created with the same username/password as my computer works this way.

After disabling secure folder access everything works perfectly fine again...  I would MUCH rather do this with it though.

Following these directions: [URL] When clicking the browse button the router shows up when secure folder access is disabled, but does not after it is enabled.  I've looked through my windows sharing settings, and haven't noticed anything that should cause problems, pretty much everything is enabled.  I've also tried turning off my firewall with no success.

Cannot Restrict Access On LAN To 2 PCs Only

Mar 6, 2011

In our neighborhood we have about 10 residents on a LAN controlled by 1 resident. For connection I have a LAN modem which connects wirelessly to an aerial at resident 1. I have 2 computers one with Win 7 Ultimate and one with XP SP3. Thinking incorrectly that I was setting up a home network, in trying to get my 2 PC's to talk to one another I have permissions set up for everyone on both machines. However I have discovered that now all 10 residents can see my 2 PC's. While I can see both PC's from either machine, in trying to change the "Everyone" to restrict access to the names of each of the 2 pcs only, I can only see users and Administrator on that particular machine only and cannot add a user/name of the other PC. How can I stop the other residents from seeing my machine but allow me to see either of my machines from one another?

Restrict Internet Access To Particular Users?

May 28, 2011

got myself the Netgear internal PCI wifi adapter today & it works just fine on my Windows XP SP3 desktop.

The only problem I have is the question of restricting access to kids @ home. If it was an external USB adapter, I could have just taken it away but the concern is the device being an internal & always available one. The user configuration on the PC is such that there is 1 main administrator (The actual windows "administrator" account) that no one uses. Apart from that,

- 1 user with admin privileges (me)

- 1 limited account for the kid

- 1 admin privilege account for the kid again (for purposes like installation of games which require an admin account as mandatory)

I would like for the wifi PCI card to work only when I login to my account. There must be someway by which I could disable the device or make the internet inaccesible in the other accounts,, (but pls bear that 1 of the account that the kid uses also has admin privilege)

I tried disabling the device from control panel but in vain.. (tried something like the sys admins do in corporates ..) disabling the usb ports on the PC's in my office..!
