D-Link DIR-825 :: Router Stopped Communicating With Cable Modem
Jul 21, 2012We ran a D-Link DIR-655 for about 5 years on our home network of 7 desktop computers (LAN) and two laptops (wireless) with essentially no problems. However following a power outage last week the router stopped communicating with the cable modem (WAN port failure?). From the web site we determined that the DIR-825 is a fancier version of the DIR-655 (extra 5 GHz transmitter) so we upgraded to a new 825 three days ago. I did not use the wizard on the CD to set up the new router -- rather did it manually because I thought I'd configure the new router exactly the same as the old one -- this was probably not a good idea in retrospect. (FYI our new DIR-825 is a ver. B1 unit with ver. 2.02NA firmware.
After setting the router up -- it lit up like a Christmas tree and I could see all 7 desk top computers (3 are WIN7 & 4 are WINXP) in the LAN and all would go on-line with no issues. (FYI 3 desk tops are directly attached to the DIR-825 and four attached via a switch). However, when I tried to map the network I find that only 5 of the desk tops we assigned to our named home network -- 2 or them could not be mapped as they were assigned to a "public" network. So while they all still communicate with each other two are no longer in our home network. I do not think this was anything that I did -- knowingly at least.
I logged back on the the router home page but I see nothing that clues me in as to what I did wrong.So I'm wondering how the DIR-825 made these "assignments" and what I can do to redirect the router to bring the other two computers into our home network. (BTW one of the two "miss-assigned" computers is WIN7 and one is WINXP so its not a window version issue).

Aug 27, 2012I lost internet from the ISP and parts of our LAN went down.We were able to reproduce the error.Problem: Internet from ISP drops, program using port 10541 within the LAN stops communicating with a server.The computer and server are on the same switch, neither require access to the internet.How we fixed the problem, temporarily: Unplugged the power from the cable modem.How we reproduced the problem: Unscrewed the cable drop to the modem and powered it on.I have checked our firewalls logs and have seen nothing that stands out. I was able to ping the server from multiple computers, including the one that had the program running on it.Also while the internet was down, I tried removing the DNSs from the computer running the program, this made no difference.

I contacted my internet service provider, and no luck. I unplugged the router's power source and plugged it back it in. Still not working. I switched the power on and off. Nothing. Thought it was the laptop but it wound up being the router (I guess).I can connect directly to internet via the cable modem (Comcast) but can't get a connection through the router.There are no IP addresses listed on the router admin page.Renew IP doesn't work.Everything was ok last night. I've had the router for a year or so and except for having to reset it every week or 2 for WiFi connection issues,it's worked pretty well.I soft-reset the router but then couldn't connect to 192.168.1.1.Hard-reset and still can't connect to 192.168.1.1.I do see connection lights. Just can't get to it.

Jul 5, 2011Well, I have a WRT120N Router for 11 months to now. I never had a problem with the Router, but since 2 days ago, It didnt connect to the internet.
My network is: Internet > Cable Modem > WRT120N > Computers
As I said, the problem is that the Router doesnt has Internet Connection.
Things to take in consideration: The Cable MODEM ISN'T the problem Because if i connect the modem directly to a computer, I have Internet connection without problems.I Diconnected and Connected both Modem and Router in several ways and several times, and it doesnt work.I also tryed clonning my PCs MAC address to the Router and it was the same.The Router Indeed receives the External IP Address from the Modem, and also, it changes if i restart the modem (as my ISP IP is DHCP). But there is NO internet conection.The Router had the 1.0.05 Firmware, and i upgraded to 1.0.06, and the problem persists. Another thing to take in account is that if I turn off my modem and the I turn it On, sometimes, the router receives Internet connection, but in matter of Seconds (minutes as much), the internet connection falls.
This is NOT an ISP problem, because as I said, if I connect the Modem Directly to any PC, i have a perfectly normal Internet Connection, And also, I called my ISP and they Said me that there werent any problem on their network.
I have also tryed with the "Router Dianostics" (the Ping and Traceroute options that are in the Router's Webend and also, no conection. So its NOT a Cables problem.

Jul 11, 2012I purchased an e4200 about 6 months ago and it worked great until the other night the Internet stopped working on my laptop (wireless). I tried unplugging both my modem (Motorola Surfboard) and router and plugging them back in, but no luck. I can accesss the Internet when plugged directly into the router (with both my PC and laptop), so it looks like the issue is with the e4200. To make matters worse (and I fear much worse), I can't even access the admin page to the router through either the Cisco Connect software or through the IP address. I've tried resetting it, I've tried the 30/30/30 reset (holding the reset button while doing an unplug and pluging back in), and reinstalling the Cisco Connect software, all to no avail.
I've found threads where others have not been able to access the admin page, but they still had access to the Internet url... I haven't found a similar thread where the router doesn't seem to work at all. A few other bits of information I can think of (let me know if there's other information I can provide):The Cisco logo light flashes slowly after reset which I believe is expected.The lights in back of the router seem to work as intended.Running Windows 7 Diagnostics finds the connection "doesn't have a valid IP configuration" and "The default gateway is not available."

Aug 19, 2011My WRT310N linksys wireless router has recently stopped permitting internet access to devices connected to it, both wired and wirelessly. I have connected my broadband modem directly to a single computer (which is how I am posting this) and evidently there is nothing wrong with my internet service. I have tried restarting my modem, the router, and the computers I am trying to access the internet with, and it has not worked. Note that local communications work fine, I was able to ping another device connected to the router, and even establish a TCP connection.It is possible that the settings on the router have been changed without my knowledge, if so, however, I do not know which setting could be causing this.

Nov 18, 2011I have a Cisco network on a ship where I work, I have an Ericsson GSM Access point which picks up local GSM 3G signal and broadcasts it onboard. I have two of these units and they are connected to a D-Link Load balancing router which is in turn connected to a Cisco 3560 Series 8 poe switch. Each unit is on a different subnet. The Cisco is on the DHCP server from my AD server (Windows 2003 Server) The Load balancing router has no DHCP and the Ericsson units have their own DHCP servers.On the Cisco switch if I plug in with a laptop I get an IP address for the DHCP on my server. I cannot ping the load balancing router from it. If I connect to the Load balancing router and set a static address for that subnet I can access the internet via the Ericsson units. And if I connect to the Ericsson I can access the Internet.

After installing a Cisco e2500 I can connect to the databases but after a short period of time I am disconnected. If I search my network computer 1 is not found. Waiting a few minutes the network will find computer 1 again. At about the same time my firewall software has started to show an attack from an 2 different IP's I don't recognize but its always one of those 2 IP's. I'm assuming the two problems are related. I,ve considered going into my firewall and allowing the unknown IP access, BUT who knows where that IP is coming from. I've checked the Cisco setup but couldn't find an IP address that matched the attacking IP address.

Nov 19, 2012I've been happily using a desktop PC wired into a router (using an ethernet cable) as well as a laptop that connects wirelessly to the router. This setup has been working fine since I started with it a few weeks ago.
On Friday evening the desktop PC stopped being able to connect to the internet and hasn't been working since. The laptop is able to connect fine wirelessly.
The router light seems to indicate that the ethernet connection is ok. I've tried connecting wirelessly from the desktop PC but that doesn't work either - the Netgear wireless usb adaptor won't open from within Windows as it usually would do.
Nothing has changed to the hardware setup (I've checked all connections) so I wonder if this is a software problem caused by a virus or maybe by Windows updates?

Wired devices can talk with wireless devices & on both interfaces devices obtain a DHCP lease. I can ping web based resources from the FA0 interface; the problem is, LAN devices can't ping has FA0. Sep 1, 2012I don't know how to copy / paste the ip config so I ss'd it:(url) internet provider is RCN, I have AVG and Malwarebytes installed, I've tried disabling them both and didn't fix it! Anyways my internet was working fine, until one day it just suddenly stopped working. We have multiple computers hooked up to the network (5) and all work except mine. This same problem happened to my sister's computer, she has almost the same model as mine. We fixed it by switching it to wireless, but I was wondering if there was any way around that. It's a HP Pavilion. The box thingie lights up green and everything. I can access the other computers through the network, it's just the internet that won't work.
